Haves And Have-nots

One side looks at other across a continent
Can't buy a ticket over, all the money's spent
One side is the landlord, the other pays the rent
Life's sweet in our ivory tower looking down at your tent
There should be a law against that
There should be some warning
It's too late to put the bridges back
Once the banks fall in

Between the haves and the have-nots
The gap's growing
Between the haves and the have-nots

You get your feet tangled in a chain of events
Buy what you need on the never-never and get deeper in debt
There should be a law against that
But laws aren't for the poor man
Laws are bought with money and power
And pulling the right strings

Between the haves and the have-nots
The gap's growing
Between the haves and the have-nots

It's not in our nature to stop taking sides
The best will in the world can't close the great divide
Yes, this is happening now
Without our knowing
Some can't get a drop to drink
Some are overflowing

Between the haves and the have-nots
The gap's growing
Between the haves and the have-nots
