Title: EARTHBOUND 3 2004 Groundbreaking TV Fan Club Gig at E&S Elland Brewery 28.05.04
Post by: Tj on March 18, 2004, 08:02:52 PM
The TUTS EARTHBOUND 3 (The TUTS Annual Gig'n'meet) will be on Friday night on May, 28th.

For the first time this EARTHBOUND will be a private party so I have saved several places for the TUTS. :D

The event is, as I previously suggested when the TUTS asked me to arrange the gig, in West Yorkshire, England.

Please can you let me know as soon as possible if you are interested and I will save you one of the limited number of places.

Find out what makes this gig a little bit different any day now. :D

But May is very good it coincides with time I have booked off work  8)

Very spooky because I didn't book the days off for any particular reason  8O

I've saved a dozen places at EARTHBOUND 3 for the TUTS on May 28th, but if there is the demand I can invite more and kick out my other friends, so please let me know if you are interested as soon as possible TUTS.

C5, Smit, Benj, Alan and Chris have grabbed the first places by phone and it sounds like The Fleagles are interested, so act as soon as possible as you don't want to miss this one.

It is a joint do with my 'official' leaving do and it continues a theme started at EARTHBOUND 1 (Glastonwick 7, Southwick) and EARTHBOUND 2 (Bogarts, Peterborough). Can you guess what the continuing theme is?

I promise an absolute cracker. 8)

Trust me do I ever get anything wrong.

No problem though still enough space, trying to get rooms soundproofed for the snorers is going to be a bit of a tall order so I'd recommend ear plugs or drink so much it won't matter

Ah the problem with the Pub is, it's a Hotel, well it's called the Bull's Head Hotel, it's on the main street in Sowerby Bridge, Town Hall Street, Sowerby Bridge, not got the postcode on me but telephone number is 01422 831539.

Payment when get there no problem!

Title: Marshallites EARTHBOUND
Post by: Tj on April 18, 2004, 01:23:58 PM
The priorities for choosing the Marshallites were:

1. Must like TV Smith
2. Must like Eastwood & Sanders fine ales
3. Must like live music
4. Must like real ale
5. Must like Tj   :P
6. Must work at Marshalls
7. Must have been a consultant for Marshalls
8. Must not be on holiday or at a wedding :P

There that just about covers why they are all going.

Richard, Neil, Jukes and Paul H all saw TV live at the New Roscoe Leeds. Puss and Jules saw TV at the Metropolis in Peterborough, the night I got very, very drunk.

So don't think we are the only fans TUTS.

Oh by the way, Dave has requested Gary Gilmores Eyes. 8O

Can't win 'em all.

Anymore requests or ideas for the gig?

True Chris, but me and Smit won't be pulling those faces again.

Another rare oldie I'd love to hear is The Sure Thing. It knocks the pants off Expensive Being Poor anyday.

I also like C5's suggestion of The Servant and Mrs F's 200 Blows.

Smit will also no doubt be reminding TV that he owes him a Walk Away.

I agree Klaus, I hate cover bands. :P

Someone in the audience shouts, “Play Anarchy in the UK”. X retorts with “I don’t do cover versions matey!” He generates even more speed with The World Just Got Smaller Again and Runaway Train Driver. Again he throws up his hands and soaks up the applause – I get a great shot!

TV Live in Long Eaton 25.10.01

TV has almost 200 songs in his personal 'jukebox' Chis why bother playing someone elses?

And no, I don't think TV really said matey, but I was very, very drunk.

As well as some old rareities of course.

Hopefully my m8's from Marshalls will buy NABD :D

Post by: Tj on April 30, 2004, 09:38:48 AM
Hi all you TUTS EARTHBOUND,

I'm going to produce an ideal TUTS set list for TV based on your votes.

Not that he's asked for one, but it does give me the chance to do a list and a chart.   :D  :D  :D

The advanatage of this is that if TV is going to do a dead rare song, at least he gets a chance to play with himself first.

So TUTS what songs would you really like to hear at EARTHBOUND 3?

Other TUTS who might want a copy of a tape of the gig can join in as well. :D

Title: Making E3 Extra Special
Post by: Tj on April 30, 2004, 09:42:41 AM
Does any TUTS have any other ideas what we can do (apart from wardrobe stick fencing  ) to make the event really special and memorable.

After all it's not every day we have a piss up in a brewery, TV fan convention gig, new TV beer and pump clip and my joint leaving do (after nine years) all at the same event is it?

We have a full house. The places I blagged off Dave Sanders have all gone. If anyone from work drops out I'll let you know Frenz and other TUTS.

Don't worry about not stopping over Fred, the important thing os that you will be their and that we have so many TUTS going. :D

Good luck with the car Jock, maybe it's time to swap it for that gig ambulance you once wanted...

So the plan of action is now to email the Great Man

AND

TELL HIM TO PLAY ALL OF CHANNEL 5

And if he wants to throw in a few of the list that T.U.T.S have voted for as well then

THAT WOULD BE NICE

I FULLY SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS

GOOD LUCK

Title: Last Minute Votes
Post by: Tj on May 08, 2004, 09:34:20 PM
Thanks Smit. :D

Just got this message from Richard

Quote
Ah - We had kind of imagined it was near Elland Road in Leeds too!  I'll have to check the map.
As for more than one vote, well, yeah, I've never heard Straight and Narrow aka Poison Arrow live!
Sharon's also fond of Happy Homeland and Not in My Name, and surely Third Term is (nearly) ready to be dusted off and re-released. ("They shake your freedom in your face like a fist, say only they can give you this.."). How much do I bet about TV playing The Easy Way?  Well, after getting him to play Bombsite Boy at
Blackburn(?) I'm not risking my money!
Looking forward to it.
Richard

Please remember TUTS that Elland is in between Halifax and Huddersfield, not in Leeds. :D

GAWD I've just flicked through the last few posts no wonder no-one is responding on this theme - so many lists. Sorry TUTS I'll be good from now on.

I've pm'd TV and his response was almost lost for words. Good job I only sent him one list.

I wonder if TV will play any of the rare songs we requested. I recall at EARTHBOUND 1 TV shocked us with The Newshound, Fire In The Darkness, Walk Away and The Easy Way and at EARTHBOUND 2 we had Xmas Bloody Xmas, Impulse Buy (both on their first live airing ever 8O ), People Don't Know and On Your Video...

...C5 kind of liked that.

It would be great to get at least one of the unrecorded songs - especially from the end of the Adverts period. That would be VERY special...

By the way, don't worry MRC5 - I've found your missing 3 and 1/2 stone!

Fred

Hi Fred,

Frist off there is the Sleazey years, where rather insanely we have requested Showbiz Kids and the obvious Piss Artists.

The unrecorded songs during The Adverts period are the Kid Strange and TV Smith demo's called Raw Meat For The Missionaries and I've requested Some Kind Of War. which had TV on lead vocals. Richard and TV very nearly played it at EARTHBOUND 1 at Southwick.

The unrecorded songs between The Adverts Cast Of Thousands and The Great Explorers were Beat Up Your Boyfriends and Cut Up, the two songs once to have been recorded by Gaye when she was contentplating having a solo career. The other was the Chelsea advertising jingle.

In the 80's, songs like Break Up The Party, Wake Up, Parade and the requested Be Brave) would probably have been on the, sadly never to be, second Explorers album.

The bulk of TV's unrecorded demo's are the 80's demo's these were either side of the Channel 5 / Party Line period and include Newshound which eventually became a Cheap record. From this period the TUTs have requested:

Make Your Escape
Shipwrecked On The Rocks Of Love
The Sure Thing
People Don't Know
Carrying On
The Wedding Dress
One Of Our Missiles Is Missing

There are fewer missing songs post these demo's like the requested Headhunters and 200 Blows by Cheap and the more recent All The Right Hands Rise and The Ghost Of Westminster. Plus the mysterious Fix It, the German song Es Stoert Mich Nicht and the hilarious Cheap anthem. :?

We Who Wait with baited breath.  :D  :D  :D

...And yes' he's right you won't recognise the twiggy like C2.5.

Sad to find that Dave the brewer had gone home early having badly pulled the muscles in his arm. If you are reading this Dave; Get Well Soon Mate.  :D

Picked up some Tomahawk Cruise and Old Gimmer (no comments please). The TC was on great form last night. Hic!  :D

Come on TUTS I'm trying my best to generate some interset here, is there anything that you want to talk about prior to the gig?

It is just over a week away and people are still getting Elland mixed up with Elland Road in Leeds.

 Next time I go to the brewery I'll write up some directions as last time I looked it up on multi-map it didn't show the new industrial estate where the brewery is located.

Is everyone clear that if you don't drink beer, you need to bring your own drinks?

That's funny I was just listening to On Your Video on Channel 5 whilst reading your post.

Got to admit that has a whole day event that Southwick does it for me. However if you are to compare the two TV Smith sets then EARTHBOUND 2 at Bogarts just wins it for me. The defining moments where these:

Quote
Driver Or Passenger

Then having blocked it from my mind earlier I suddenly realise that TV is playing the new album back to back. I pass the word around the very excited TUTS.

Quote
Dring dring… TV spots the offending mobile. “Nice tune.” He edges his way over (as in Alan’s ace photo capturing the moment) and takes the phone to his ear. “Speak louder! Hello who’s that? Is it mi’ mum? Am I Sharon?” TV has the whole crowd in stitches, laughing their heads off.

The Great Man pauses…

What will he do?

Continue with the new album back to back or go for it?

A decision…

“Anything that interrupts my gig deserves a good thrashing” he grins.

This man just can’t help acting on Impulse!

The World Just Got Smaller Again

TV plays a stonking version and this great gig really comes alive!

The girl in question decides to turn off her mobile.

Quote
EARTHBOUND

The gigs theme tune is delivered with greatness.

“My fan club are called The TUTS and many of them are here tonight. I’ve got a fan club that sounds like people who don’t want to come to my gigs – just my bloody luck!”

Quote
TV sings with his usual mix of total passion and aggression.

“Dominator” yells C5 knowing that he has for once chosen a Channel 5 song that TV can play acoustic.

“Speaking as a man I find it bad that the bad decisions in the world are taken by men…”

C5 goes ape shit!

Dominator

“Thank you on behalf of Mr C5.” “I tell you what Mr C5 here’s another Channel 5 song for you…”

On Your Video

C5 is in total Seventh Heaven. The first words I ever heard my good friend say were “On Your Video.” After 20 years he had finally given in shouting for it at gigs. He thought getting Dominator was a massive win.

Never assume C5!

Show me a happier face and I will say “that is a very, very, very, very, very happy face!”

I snap away with my camera at C5’s ecstatic delight.

Quote
People Don’t Know

It’s my turn for eyes on springs and a half moon grin! Teev delivers an awesome rendition of my favourite TV Demo. That’s at least two TUTS poking their heads above the clouds tonight!

“I’ve played several songs tonight about money. This was the first one…”

Impulse Buy

I scream along to the chorus “Ay-Ee-Ay-Ay-Ee another impulse buy.” I feel like I could jump a cloud, never mind a mountain!

“Just in case you were wondering, that’s the first time I’ve ever played that song in front of people.”

Quote
“And now my brand new Christmas single!” says TV unwrapping his present for he crowd.

Xmas, Bloody Xmas

“It’s Christmas, Christmas, bloody Christmas,” sings TV through the infectious chorus. The verse is hysterical.

It receives the loudest cheers of the night, in a night of very, very, very many cheers!

The best gig of my life. :D

To all those heading towards Sowerby Bridge here's a map -

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=405814&y=423369&z=3&sv=sowerby+bridge&st=3&tl=Sowerby+Bridge,+West+Yorkshire+[Town]&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf

Junction 22 on the M62 takes you straight to Sowerby Bridge, if you need to get straight to Elland first then junction 24 is the easiest!  :D

Eastwood & (Dave) Sanders Go For Gold

I'm delighted to announce that Dave Sanders and the E & S Brewery, brewer's of Tomahawk Cruise and holders of EARTHBOUND 3, have won Gold at the Brewing Industry International Awards ceremony in London yesterday.

The Gold Award is for their 1872 Porter in the Dark Milds, Stouts and Porters category. This is a very prestigious award in the brewing business and in my opinion it is a very well deserved one.

Well done Dave.

Tj Sundown

Well done on your award to all at the E S brewery ...well nice !

Jock

Have to check them all out

looks like i will have to give my opinion on all the beers available friday

just in the course of research obviously

Err I checked with the brewery yesterday and there will be just two beers on the night. Tomahawk Cruise and First Light. :D See TV and Jock you do get your light coloured beer. :D

Of course if you are very big and very good and really interested in research maybe Dave will let you sample one ore two of his other beers.

Isn't it ironic that a last special on Friends is on tonight as well as the first Big (EVIL  ) Brother 5? Yep, all on the same night as the TUTS big annual get together with TV? :D

Can't wait...

By the way if you want to bring a CD or a favourite tape for background music before the gig you can do.

I'm brining Love and Light, the new Alarm CD called 'In The Poppy Fields' and 'The Best Of Spandau Ballett.'

Got to get off now and work 'till I'm musclebound...

Post by: Tj on May 28, 2004, 01:48:04 PM
Dave just phoned from the brewery.

He is metal fan and he confirmed that anyone caught playing Spandau Ballett will be slowly drowned in a vat of Black Shuck. 8O

Dave pointed out that there will be no food at the brewery (just as at most gigs) so please eat before you arrive, If you can't don't worry I'm sure there are some piza delivery shops near by.

The good news is that the beers are both settled and looking good. :D GAWD I never thought that Tomahawk Cruise might not clear. Phew! :D

The winning pump clip has also been chosen and one pump clip will be constructed and in use at the gig, so we get to see it first TUTS. :D

JEEZ .. im tired after that journey ...slept like a pig through till sunday ..missed TV at Edinburgh last night too ...and cant afford to get to Newcastle today ...boo hisss!!!

First small reveiw of Earthbound from me ?..... WELL the journey there was long and fraught with difficulties ...we couldnt leave till we got carols dads car , he was using till 12 pm, so we left as soon as we got it , Headed
for LEEDS to meet up with Jutters and Kerry ( two very nice people ) .
We got them at around 7pm..headed for Elland which we found with no hassle .

There was Mr and Mrs F waiting at the door of the brewery ..WOW we'd arrived ! it must have been nearer 8pm by now...had to go greet the rest of the crew ...

TJ ..and of course TV were the first .TJ looked like he'd supped a few pints of the famous Tomahawk Cruise by now    and why not !
MRC5 shook my hand and he was right ...i thought id met him before somehow ,but its just by reading his posts im sure...anyhow... it was a blast meeting more TUTS for the first time .

Fred was there BEER in hand  ..pointing out that i had the same T shirt on that i had at last years HITS ... Infact i was dressed exactly the same ( as he points to some blown up pics of us ...
he was right of course..i wear ALL my Tshirts till they die and fall off

Klaus ... having a hard time understanding all the different dialects done his best to understand mine ...my broad scottish  accent  can be tricky to pick up at times ..Carols is worse eh Klaus ? esspecially after a few pints of vodka !

TV went on to sing a blinding set of songs id never heard  live ..and songs i simply hadnt heard before !   TJ through his magic gig book away after a while as the Ale began  to take him over like an alien moving into a host .
His sacred gig book  was TOAST !..

so dont ask me what songs were played and when as i havent a clue    8O

I do know that TV said to me ..  WELL...there was a lot there you hadnt heard before...  all i could say was   ..AYE !!!  TV said ..EH ?   I said
AYE !    .....  GAWD i was speachles after that set .

Quickstep was played pretty quick into the set , and i  was over the Moon when TV announced that this song was the song that got the Adverts of the ground ..probably one of there first songs , its allways been a favourite of mine as i remember dancing like crazy to that in my youth ...still would if my bones could take the pace and stomach would stay still .

Our Daughter Moon was there and loved the whole experience from start to finish and even wanted to go see TV in Edinburgh  too ... pitty we couldnt do it.

the Trip home was merry as we played a best of TVSmith tape in the car having a sing along at top volume ..Moon singing word perfect to most songs ( she want s to be a singer ).

TJ..Fred Mrc5 , Klaus , Frenzbob , the Fleagles ...all the other TUTS... ill leave the set list and proper reveiws to you lot ... i just want to say THANKS to all involved in arranging this gig ...and a BIG thanks to Mr & Mrs Feagles from us too cos we wouldnt have managed to get there if it wernt for these two people . Mr F got us motovated enough to make the trip possible .

all  the best folks..see you in Morcambe with TV and band !

What exactly happened to the car on the journey. Seems like you talked about it, but no one mentioned the exact circumstances here. Not that it was that important, most important thing is of course that you got there!

Title: TO 'ELL AND BACK
Post by: Mrs Fleagle on May 30, 2004, 03:34:13 PM
It’s the big day 28th May 2004 Earthbound 3.  Off Fleagle goes to the airport and collects Klaus.  We have a few hours to spare during which time Klaus gets to see Fleagle’s big organ, we have a cooked breakfast and get ready to go.  Time to get TV, bloody 1½ hours to travel 15 miles to TV’s house, but at least we will soon be out of the London traffic.  First diversion is at TV’s short cut to the motorway ‘Road Closed’, so back in the traffic, TV points out the location that inspired ‘Runaway Train Driver’, then we pass a scrap yard that describes itself as a place for cars past their life expectancy (we shouldn’t have laughed) and on to the motorway.  Alas half the population of England are doing the same journey and so starts the slow crawl to ‘The North’.  TV can’t open the window in the back of the car so ensues a lot of button pressing for TV and Fleagle and at last success, although Teev was a little disappointed he didn’t have full control of the windows.  At last the road clears and Fleagle can put his foot down, then there is a strange smell and Fleagle asks ‘is that smoke coming from my car’, unfortunately the answer is yes. Klaus who had slept for most of the journey wakes up in time for the exciting bit.  So it’s over to the hard shoulder to inspect the problem, there’s liquid of some sort coming out from under the engine, oh dear it doesn’t look good.  So here we are standing on the verge of the motorway with the star and special guest for TJ’s party tonight waiting for the AA.  The AA arrived in record time, the AA man has a good poke around but it’s one car that isn’t going anywhere. So 5 of us guitar, bags etc jump into the AA van and with the car being towed behind it’s off to the garage just around the corner.  Half an hour later and some quick calculations from Fleagle it is decided to scrap the car at Leicester, fortunately the AA arrange a hire car for 24 hours so all is not lost.  Then still in the AA van it’s off to the hire place and all out of the AA van.  So what car do they give us? We started off in a nice roomy automatic Granada and end up with a manual Fiat Punto.  So it’s 5 of us, the bags and the guitar in the Fiat to continue our journey. TV is pleased because the Fiat has wind down windows and he is in full control!

We now have around about 1½ hours to travel over 100 miles and the traffic is still awful, but the rest of the journey goes without any dramas and at 8.30 we finally find ourselves outside the brewery.  We were battered, bruised, weary and worn, but our spirits soon lifted seeing the other TUTS and Smit the beer monster (bless him) made sure we swiftly had a pint of the wonderful Tomahawk Cruise.  Thanks to TJ and C5 who bless them went to the Co–op and bought us some sandwiches for our arrival.

The rest of the evening was awesome and well worth the journey  8)

Thanks for everything TV. :D

As you say I reconstructed the set list fairly well. I had 38 out of 40 and you identified some possible missing ones. Frenzbob posted the rest of the setlist at the same time as you and he confirmed that Bored Teenagers was played as I thought I remembered. The one I totally missed was Eurodisneyland Tomorrow. Sorry Klaus. :D

Just one question left then, did TV play One Chord Wonders?

I don't remember it and Frenzbob hasn't taped it so only Alan and Chris can answer that, unless someone has a really good memory through the haze of Tomahawk Cruise beer.

No, not that crap song!

I was just thinking that this was the third Earthbound where the TUTS gather to celebrate TV and his music - that MUST be a great feeling for TV - it certainly is for us!

They did mine! Cheers mate!

But bearing in mind I didn't remember NIMN being played, my memory might not be that reliable

From what Frenzbob has said Alan I think the only place that TV could have played One Chord Wonders is right at the end after Gary Gilmore's Eyes.

The bigger question is did you get this part of the gig, because in the middle is where Frenzbob's tape missed for a few minutes:

Quote
21. Atlantic Tunnel
22. The Sure Thing
23. Lion And The Lamb

I think it's the first time TV has ever played The Sure Thing live and he wrote it in the early 80's. It's a fantastic song and its theme eventually nutured into Expensive Being Poor.

I thought real hard about how I could turn this opportunity into a gift and special adventure.

1. Enter Dave the brewer and the E & S Brewery.

2. Enter TV Smith his a rare three hour set list direct from heaven.

5. Enter the TV Smith Tomahwak Cruise beer and pump clip.

6. Enter Paul the Soundman and his sound kit.

7. Enter Frenzbob, Klaus, Alan, Chris and all the TUTS photographers to record this extra special event.

Post by: Tj on June 04, 2004, 08:52:09 AM
Right now I see Uli.

I must admit that when I've had a few I sometimes forget if TV has played the well known songs (mind you so does TV sometimes  ). But I rarely forget a rare one. :D

There's been a bit of disagreement on wether I was dead drunk or just in high spirits due to the special atmosphere on the night, which I must admit I did my best to nurture by moving around from TUTS to TUTS.

I base my argument around the fact that I felt myself getting drunk and I really wanted to remember the night so I stopped drink for a while.

...Of course as some TUTS might point out as a counter argument I also lost my second glass, even though having lost a first one I'd put a rubber band around it - so I wouldn't loose it. And then of course I lost my big original Fleagles made gig review book.

 As I didn't loose the TUTS requested set list of 75 songs can we comprimise and say I was just a little merry...

...Of course that list was stuck to the wall.

The set list is on the left. Frenzbob tried to stop me filling it in and wrote "Tj is sad" on it.

What do you think of my TUTS posters?

If you look closely you can see TV and Richard Strange during TV's first Back From The Dead performance at EARTHBOUND 1 in Southwick.

Yeah I realised that it's one of those TV/Strange photos as you recently did post them in another thread, so I remembered that :!:  :o

Congratulations to EARTHBOUND 3 on being the first post to reach 300 posts. 8O  8)

Another thing that is really pleasing about what happened at Elland is how popular TV Smith was with the non TUTS. :D

Natalie and Helen thought it was great.

I was sampling beer in Dave's brewery at 9:00am 8O this morning and getting my flip top bottle take outs and Dave asked if he could get a tape or video of the gig. 8O  You could have bowled me over. :D

Tim, I had a great time.... thanks for organising it and inviting me. I thoroughly enjoyed TV's performance....which is the most accessible TV Smith album for a novice?

Thanks once again.

Hope you and Lisa are well and she is enjoying the job at the brewery - what is it with you Downes!!!!  Can she bring samples home to try???

Hope to see you soon!

Title: The Good Times Are Back
Post by: Tj on July 17, 2004, 02:44:50 PM
It's clear with all the work involved with setting up my Corporate and Life Coaching Company ( www.firstlightcoaching.co.uk ) that I won't be able to get the full gig review out fast so I'm afraid I will have to post it in parts.

The next post is part one of Tj's EARTHBOUND 3 Gig Review called The Good Times Are Back.

 :D
Title: It's In The Bones
Post by: Tj on July 17, 2004, 02:47:58 PM
EARTHBOUND 3

THE GOOD TIMES ARE BACK

Part 1: It's In The Bones

I was running late when Smit and Benj arrived on the journey up from Market Deeping. I rushed around getting ready and in my haste forgot to pick up the eight wooden chairs for the brewery and even more important my 3 pint Grolsh flip top bottles for a takeaway of Tomahawk Cruise.

Smit, Benj and I set off at 4:00pm and as we hit the M62 I remembered why we needed to set off at 3:00pm. FRIDAY NIGHT TRAFFIC JAMS! We skipped my visit to Marshalls to drop off my lap top and headed straight for the E&S (Eastwood and Sanders) Brewery. Dave Sanders greeted us with a smiling, but tired face. He’d been brewing since 6:00am. “Would you like a pint?” said Dave, full well knowing our response. Smit was soon sampling and ticking halves of all the different beers, whilst I opted for a pint of the Tull beer; Living In The Cask.’

Enter Paul, the Sound man, and friend. He set about erecting his sound kit as I cracked on with putting up my TV & the TUTS photo’s. The Sound man soon had a mighty sound booming out of his speakers. Neil, the first Marshallite arrived and took Smit and Benj to their hotel to drop off their overnight bags. By the time they arrived back the brewery was covered with printed photos of TV, Richard Strange, Eric Russell, Tim Cross, Attila The Stockbroker, Ian Roland and numerous TUTS.

I went to Puss Garside’s house followed by Dave the brewer in his taxi van. We dropped my car off at my Elland Hotel and picked up Puss and his girlfriend Donna. When we returned to the gig we found that a scattering of Marshallites had arrived. Then the likes of C5, Frenzbob, Fred and Kim and The Poison Arrows   Richard and Sharon.

Fleagle called to say that things were not going well. The traffic was bloody awful after picking up Andy, TV and Klaus they had been crawling up the M1. Then just when they thought it couldn’t get any worse the car went kaput. Fleagle thought it might be terminal and he had phoned the AA (the Automobile Association not Alcoholics Anonymous.) They were near Leicester, many miles from the gig and running out of time. Then Alan phoned to say that the traffic on the A1 was awful and they were going to be late. My GAWD it’s the curse of the TUTS I thought to myself. To make matters worse I received a text from Matt of the Marshallites saying he had had some problems and then hit the horrendous rush hour traffic near Nottingham. He’d decided to call it a day and head back home to Nottingham.

I realised I had a choice. Either get pissed off and sulk about how it wasn’t fair or choose to be positive and make the most of the night. At least we had two barrels of Eastwood and Sanders beer to devour and by now I had a room full of TUTS. I chose to be positive. I had a good feeling all the way through to my bones.

C5 and I started shift runs (aided by Dave the friendly brewer) to buy food for the TUTS in transit and those that had arrived without wine and pop, who didn't drink real ale.

Alan, Chris, Jock, Carol, Moon, Jutters and Kerry arrived late, but as the star turn was stuck on the motorway it didn’t really matter.

As we put on Frenzbob’s specially made Tj and the TUTS party CD we heard a bang on the door and opened it to find an AA van full of Fleagles and friends. TV could still have time to save the day….

I volunteered to introduce TV. As I went to the front to ask TV if he was ready Mmm I’ll keep drinking this delicious beer” said TV slurping his pint of Tomahawk Cruise. “Mmm TV Smith beer” I replied.

“I’ll just do one really loud bit to see if this is okay. “WWWWAAAAHHHHH! You looked very pretty the way you jumped their Tj”

As I move closer to the mic I get groans and heckles of “get off” from the excited, expectant and slightly inebriated crowd. “Ladies and Gentlemen I’d like to thank everybody for coming. It’s been a long journey for some people, special thanks to my friend Klaus who has come all the way from Germany tonight, just to see this event (cheers!). I’d like to thank all my friends from Marshalls, what a wonderful Company that is (laughs). And also specials thanks to the TUTS that have traveled from all over the UK. May I present Mr TV Smith, the Worlds greatest singer-songwriter.” Cheers and applause echoed around the room.

“Thank you very much. What’s the weirdest gig you have ever played? Against the hiss of what ever that is hissing over their” said a confused TV pointing into the corner of the brewery. “That’s the rhythm section” joked Fred. “The drummers turned up! Good!” said TV carrying on the joke.

“I’ve no idea what I am going to play,” announced TV. “A great list though” said Fred pointing to the set list full of songs the TUTS voted for. “Tj has made a list of 75 songs that I have never played live before ever and I was thinking about that and that would take about five and a half hours and with replaying because of mistakes we could be here for some days or months, but…” paused TV looking around the brewery, “it could be worse.” The crowd cheered the delight at the prospect of being locked in a brewery with free award winning beer and the sound of TV Smith.

“Yep! We have had some problems getting here. A lot of us have come a long way and had various problems along the way. Thinking about what to play I thought the most important thing is that we got through it all. We’ve ended up here - things are looking good! The best thing about life is about overcoming the obstacles and getting somewhere good and this is a song about that called Not A Bad Day.”

“Today’s not going to be a bad day, I can feel it in my bones, I can see light on the horizon,” sang a passionate TV on top form.

“Cheers everyone. So that was it! Goodbye everyone thanks it’s been great.”

Great days have some fantastic adventures Josh. TV's not called THE GREAT EXPLORER for nothing. Wait untill I add some photo's on the final print of the interview. :D

The review will be in four parts. 8O I've started Part 2 and you can read a bit of it in Favourite Reviews in TV Chat. :D The problem is time. I've a business to set up and I now have to write a Midnight Creeps review as well. Although that should be quite short as I can't write when I'm pogoing.

Glad you liked it it makes all that hard work worthwhile. :D

Too much time being Abused when I really want to view and talk about positive things like TV Smith. :D

Anyway got to dash, but before I go I just wanted to thank Klaus for putting up the EARTHBOUND 3 photo's.

Some of Andy's are crackers.

I'll tell you which and why tomorrow.

Post by: Tj on August 11, 2004, 08:57:53 AM
...Hmm sounds like you have not only heard the gig but seen it too. 8O What did you think of it Josh?

For those two TUTS overseas that I have promised   a copy of the DVD to, here is the latest of Alan's quest to copy his DVD

Maybe another TUTS has a good idea that will help Alan out in his quest.

Quote
Cheers Josh I've downloaded them!

If only you were so knowledgeable on DVD's......

Alan

haha yes, all I know DVD wise is basically how to copy VHS to DVD because I have a DVD Recorder, but not a rewriter so don't know much at all when it comes to doing it all on the computer.

Though what you had last time I saw was looking pretty good, what else needed doing?

Josh

Its all done except it won't burn to disc.......

Alan

Oh? what program are you using to try and burn it to disc? and that program you used to organise all the clips, how does that output the files?

Josh

Pinnacle bloody Studio 8... useless! When I looked it up to see if anybody else had the same issues - they did ALL OF THEM, and there's no apparent cure... BUT the Earthbound gig video does look pretty damn good.. you just have to watch it from the hard-drive of my lap-top!

Unfortunately this DVD really is earthbound!!

Alan

Alan, does your camcorder have a "DV Out" because on my dvd recorder I have a "DV In", (along with S-video, scart etc), and if at a last resort I could make a direct copy to DVD, of course this will be compeltely unedited, I could do pauses etc, but not knowing where to put them I would leave them. But couldn't do the titles or anything that you wanted to do.

Though have you looked into any DVD capture programs, I'll try find some if you want that are easy to use and burn the disc at the end.

Josh
Alan

I dont know if you have broadband or not but if you can zip up and mail me the file - I may be able to burn it with my wide array of software

fleags

Fleags

I've got broadband but they are 2 bloody big files... 8411kb and 1868kb. Are you sure you want them sent?!

Cheers

Alan

yes Al
shouldnt be a problem my end

fleags

Smallest file of the two gone - actually it didn't seem that big so I hope I've sent thr right thing!

Let me know how you get on!

Cheers

Alan

Alan that doesn't sound right, I don't think the entiure dvd will be 8 meg and 1 meg, its more likely to be 100x that size as a DVD when burnt to disc is 4.7Gb and those files you were talking about are about 0.008Gb and 0.001Gb.

Anyway my suggestion is in your PM box and if you can't end up gettng this to work through fleagle then give it a try.

Josh

It doesn't sound right does it?! - I've sent it on to Fleags anyways for his opinion!

Cheers

Alan

Good Luck TUTS

Title: Carrying On (Part 2 Of Tj's E3 E&S Gig Review)
Post by: Tj on September 25, 2004, 10:48:52 PM
The Good Times Are Back

The EARTHBOUND 3 Gig Review Of TV Smith Live At The E&S Elland Brewery

Part 2: Carrying On

“We can do anything and that’s the wonderful thing, Carrying On, Carrying On.”

“For those famous comedy Films with Charles Hawtrey and Sid James,” joked TV. “Har! Har! Har!” I laughed in an attempt at doing a Sid James.

“That must be it for my optimistic songs isn’t it? I’ve got a brand new song that is optimistic. I’m going to be delving into my back catalogue and playing a lot of songs I’ve never played live before and quite a lot that you’ve probably never heard (mega cheers). Here’s one that no-one has ever heard because I’ve only just written it. It says that you take the good stuff from your past with you, you don’t leave it behind. People go on about the good old days, those halcyon days, with that far away look in their eyes. Thinking those are the good old times and now everything is bad. Well this is a song that says perhaps the Good Times Are Back!” introduced a lively TV.

“Perhaps the Good Times Are Back. Come on get into the action!”

“It’s going to be a very strange evening, this evening!” quipped Teev with a big grin spread across his face.

“Oh I don’t know – Richard; Straight and Narrow,” said TV to a delighted Poison Arrow.

”Count one for the dirty deed. Two for need that wounds you like a poison arrow. Three for the shame, you can never clean your name or get back on the Straight And Narrow.”

“Lots of weird songs I don’t play very often and new ones. All the TUTS that are here probably know half of this old stuff, even though I don’t play them very often,” explained TV.

“I am a TUT” I shouted.

“Bored Teenagers please,” shouts out David Jessop of The Marshallites. “Yes, but that has to be at the end,” answered TV.

“This is the story of how the band started…”

“Oh, to do the Quickstep on a Saturday night and hunt like a brave man with a flashlight.”

“Oh mi cymbal fell off” joked TV as Jock beamed from ear to ear..

“Your drinking Carling, you should drink this. Delicious!” said TV to Fred.

”Ask Generation Y, you’ll get no reply.”

“We feel un-motivated because we feel we are in the power of the establishment, when it’s nothing to do with us. In fact the only voice that we should listen to and follow is our own internal voices…”

”I’m proud, I’m alive, now I’ve found some purpose, I am your Servant.”

“Not always the easiest path is to follow your own advice, somehow it’s usually seems easier to follow other peoples. That is one of the problems in the world and In our own life’s that we often prefer the easy way…”

“One hand just takes hold of things, the other has to pay, we just wanted The Easy Way.”

”When I can’t even trust my point of view because I can’t think straight I just Walk Away.”

“Thank you TV,” shouted Smit; who had just provided the whooping backing vocals to The Great Explorers trilogy.

“…You walk away from the idiots out there who are trying to change your life’s and stick with yourself and that’s the answer.”

“Men have this habit of thinking they are better than women…”

“Man thinks he’s a Dominator, man thinks he’s the master, I wouldn’t be so sure.” “It’s a million miles from lighting up to lung cancer.”

“Unfortunately if enough people gather round anyone who’s absolutely sure of his own opinions usually he begins to change his mind...”

”Now he’s Coming Round, say the opposite often enough and he comes round.”

“Men dominating the world! Women can be men too. You don’t get much evidence of women trying to rule the world through religion, because as you know they are not allowed in...”

”Back behind the bible belt people scream and people yell; I ain’t coming save yourself. This is The Lord’s Prayer.”

“...What extremely nice beer,” smiled TV in XTC.

Best night of my life m8. :D

And now I'm actaully glad I don't work at Marshalls anymore and it isn't just down to my fantastic leaving do with TV and the TUTS, pissed up in a brewery. :D

As it happens I'm just listening to TV singing The Easy Way at EARTHBOUND 3 as  I type this. :D

Maybe we can rustle up a mini version of E3 and have a TV Xmas Bloody Xmas party in Yorkshire in December. Would that be of interest to you Uli?

What did you other TUTS think of the part 2 of the gig review (which is actually TV's great inter song dialogue at E3).

It would be great to get at least one of the unrecorded songs - especially from the end of the Adverts period. That would be VERY special...

By the way, don't worry MRC5 - I've found your missing 3 and 1/2 stone!

Heck Fred, I'm all Cut Up! ;)

At the first Elland EARTHBOUND we had a bundle of unrecorded songs played for the first time...

So can the fourth EARTHBOUND at Elland Brewery top the first?

After seing Leigh and TV together for their re-union gig at The Load of Hay I can't wait for this mini-tour. :D

One of TV's most popular You Tube videos with 7,545 hits was taken at this first Elland Earthbound. Generation Y anyone?

And first time we had loads of rare demos like TV's song of choice on this very special evening...

...Probably. ;)

Why was this my favourite gig ever? It was my favourite singers songwriter palying in my favourite brewery. It was very special and totally unique at the time.

It was also at a key turning poiunt in my own life. Like when TV left Cheap to March solo like A Giant. I certainly did,kt feel like a giant. I'd just been made redundant. Shat on by another big Corporate. It was where I chose to Make My Escape for working for uncaring big Corporate businesses and fly solo. "I'd be my own boss if I could" to quote TV's Sparkle in the Mud demo Today. This gig lifted my spirits at a time when I need to tap into hidden "Strength within" to find the courage and confidence within to start a new life.

This gig helped give me that strength. Thank you TV, TUTS and Dave The Brewer.

What was also special about this particularly gig is that it was the first true Earthbound gig. It was the first time we used the TUTS set list voting system which Gabumon later called The Wishsongs. It was the first clearly billed as Earthbound in advance and it was the first of four Earthbound's at Elland Brewery (which is now owned by Smit of the TUTS).

TV was on amazing form.

It was the first time ever TV had ever delivered a show with a set list like this. Over half the set were songs that were either new* or songs that TV didn't regularly play

Most appropriately of all it was the first time TV ever played THE GOOD TIMES ARE BACK. And that says it all for me...

1. Not A Bad Day
2. Carrying On
3. The Good Times Are Back*
4. Straight And Narrow
5. Quickstep

6. Generation Y
7. The Servant
8. The Easy Way
9. Walk Away
10. Dominator
11. Coming Round

12. Lord’s Prayer
13. People Don't Know
14. Earth 2
15. All The Right Hands Rise

16. Thin Green Line
17. Tomahawk Cruise
18. London Beach
19. War Fever
20. One Of Our Missiles Is Missing

21. Atlantic Tunnel
22. The Sure Thing
23. Lion And The Lamb
24. Bored Teenagers
25. Only One Flavour
26. Ghost Of Westminster*
27. Xmas Bloody Xmas
28. Television’s Over
29. On Your Video
30. Immortal Rich
31. Some Kind Of War
32. Driver Or Passenger
33. Wheels Out Of Gear
34. Make Your Escape

35. Eurodisneyland Tomorrow
36. My String Will Snap
37. Runaway Train Driver
38. Drowning On Dry Land
39. Not In My Name
40. Punk Rock Poem - Gary Gilmore's Eyes

A truly amazing performance by TV and the forming of a fun and friendly group of friends. The TUTS had found their way, truly connected and found their voice.

"What a laugh" TV Smith at the third Earthbound in Elland Brewery in 2004...

If I was put on a rack and forced to name my favourite ever gig aka EATHBOUND. I would go for the first ever EARTHBOUND gig at Elland Brewery with my old mate C5.

Happy days.

My favourite so far. ;-)
