Title: EARTHBOUND 4G TV Fan Club Gig In Essen, Germany 30.10.05
Post by: Tj on May 19, 2004, 09:10:50 AM
Thought we'd better start on a new theme after reading Jock and HosenFan's recent post.

This could turn out to be a bigger battle than the Olympics.

So, TUTS, the big question is who is up for arranging EARTHBOUND 4 in 2005?

Fleagle's just suggested The Fleagles to arrange it at either the Fox & Hounds or the local borough's August Bank Holiday Monday Green Fair at Carshallton.

Any other offers or suggestions for E4 TUTS?

So that's Carshallton, near that London, in the UK and Germany. Any more suggestions TUTS?

Where abouts in Germany would be the best location to hold EARTHBOUND 4?

I absolutely agree with HosenFan suggesting Duesseldorf.
Should be easy for non-Germans to get an affordable flight and Duesseldorf gigs always tend to be very well attended, as Duesseldorf is the Toten Hosen headquarter of Germany.

So how do we decide which gig?

It's Gernmany versus the UK versus Spain.

We could have a poll on the sie  :!:

Or out of the 3 main contenders England, Germany and Spain, maybe we should use the results of Euro 2004 to choose, either the country that finishes the highest (out of the above 3) or the country that scores the most goals  :D

My personal choices of locations are as follows:
1. Dussledorf
2. Barcelona
3. Carshalton (England)

It's about time the 'Runaway Train Driver Conga' went international

I'm sure we've discussed this before and myself, Jock and Alan (I think - sorry if that's not accurate!) were all in favour of going to Germany.

To make it as practical as possible, we'd have to get a suitable venue, etc. organised in plenty of time for people to save up, get time off work, book flights, etc., etc.

But I'm in!

Yes Fleagle I missed being there.  At the time of the gig I was heading south, Cornwall bound.  Unfortunately it was booked and paid for before the gig was announced.
I've not seen TV since last September, I will try harder when the next batch of gigs in Britain are announced.
I missed another one earlier in the year at Birmingham, only 50 minutes drive away, but I already had a ticket to see the Casbah Club in Nottingham.  A band with JJ Gilmour on vocals, Bruce Foxton on bass and Big Country's guitarist and drummer.  They played a selection of each others hits and was a very good gig, thoroughly recomended if they ever stray down your way.

We chatted with TV about this over the last couple of weeks, and I think TV thought it might not be feasible to have a TUTS only gig (apologies Teev if I got this wrong).   :)

The better option being for the TUTS to arrange an Earthbound get together at a gig  :D

So maybe when a Tour is announced for 2005 the German Tuts could shortlist the most suitable venues, maybe those that aren't likely to be too packed

I thought this was the view from the start if TV held EARTHBOUND 4 in Germany.

I'm cool with sharing the gig with dozens of other fans. I don't think we should do exactly teh same thing every year as it won't feel as special that way. :D

Does that mean that Germnay won the poll then Klaus?

Looks like you are right Uli. I've just received a text from Klaus saying that he is afraid that it will be difficult.

We exchanged loads of texts and eventually came up with the idea of having Glastonwick 10 at Shoreham Airport as EARTHBOUND 4.

What do you think of this idea TUTS?

As well as obviously having TV live it also has the EARTHBOUND special ingrediant of BEER, as Glastonwick is a Beer Festival as well as a Music Festival.

Please let us know your thoughts.

Hopefully we might be able to do Germany next year if it doesn't happen this year. :D

Oh well, I forgot the date of the Shoreham gig, but have my doubts if I can make this...
Well, you never know, maybe I can catch a last minute flight.

Anyway, one more difficulty is not too many German gigs being announced as yet. If we had dates we could maybe pick one of these or add another one as the special one... Let's wait and see. If I'd get some help by experienced "earthbounders" like you, maybe I could do it (however it would be easier to "promote" an already existing gig e.g. in Stuttgart or so, as the Earthbound one).  8)
Title: EARTHBOUND 4?
Post by: Tj on April 03, 2005, 02:25:55 PM
Hi Uli and the TUTS :D

One of the reasons that Klaus and I suggested Shoreham is that it is in the South and easier for German TUTS to get to. That is why Klaus is going and why Simse and Jurgon went last time.

I'm a bit confused here because you and Klaus were saying you were busy and it would be difficult and now that Klaus and I have suggested an alternative that's fits the criteria, you say let's wait and see and you might do it in Germany. :?

Please let us know what you want to do Uli as these things do take a few months to arrange.

What do the other TUTS think about the idea to have the Glastonwick 10 Beer And Music Festval as EARTHBOUND 4?

One other good reason that I have thought of since is that it will be the third anniversary of the forming of the TUTS. :D

It's your forum TUTS.  :D

I know that's why I said it's unfortunate to have not many German dates lined up as yet. So if you're heading for Shoreham, let's not wait and see, let's keep it to that and I'll see if I can come over.  :)

Also no other German TUTS have apparently read this and/or expressed any interest (yet), so I guess we're better off with the UK...

I'm not a German TUT, but I would prefer Germany, as going to Britain twice a year is too much and if it matters: I'd be on holidays from beginning of July to End of September - in that time I'd love to appear at an Earthbound

Finally someone expressed interest in a German Earthbound (again)!  :)
Thanks Lari, but of course you know we can't make it comfortable for each and every TUTS member, someone will always feel left behind or won't be able to attend... But as long as there aren't many German gigs lined up we can't even shortlist any (as was the plan).

Where are those TUTS who voted for Duesseldorf and Hamburg?  :?
I certainly wouldn't vote for Hamburg, for me it's almost as far as the UK. If I'd go by train to Hamburg, I might be faster at a UK gig, if I'd go by airplane to UK!  :o

Anyway, TJ, if you go by the old posts in this thread I always said:

So I don't understand you're confused now that I repeat this. Difficult if no gigs are lined up, but what can we do but wait? Of course we can get hectic and move it to the UK... Maybe in 2006 we'll have some German tourdates soon enough to get it done?

I had a long text chat with Klaus Uli and he felt that it was going to be difficult to arrange it in Germany.

I was confused because you appeared to be saying it was difficult and then when Klaus and I provided an alternative you wanted to look again at Germany.

I was just trying to help Uli as it didn't look like anyone was saying anything about arranging EARTHBOUND 4 on the site.

 The other option is to go way back to our idea of a few years ago and have a German EARTHBOUND 4 and a UK EARTHBOUND. :D Is that a better comprimise?

Like I said the TUTS should choose, so I'll go with the flow m8. :D

Yeah, of course, there was no way of choosing any possible Earthbound gig, as basically there are hardly any gigs to choose from, that's why I wanted to wait and see (also possibly other TUTS like HF might take some time to reply to this, as some TUTS haven't been seen round here for quite a while).

Also you said:
Quote

Glastonwick is only two months away, would that be enough?
Also it seems to me that TV isn't the "headliner" there, how long will he be playing? (Don't think I'd wanna travel for a short gig...)

When thinking about it, I felt it seemed a bit "impatient" and premature to cancel a possible German "Earthbound" when there isn't even a German tour announced as yet...  :o

I think that's a very good compromise.
We'll do the UK EARTHBOUND and if things turn the right way up we might even get a German EARTHBOUND 4.

The TSUKAHARA Festival in Sailauf could have been a good choice for a German EB. If the following Saturday wasn't already planned we could have organized a solo gig as near as possible to the festival venue and that would have made up a perfect TV experience.

TV was second in the bill last time and he played a shorter set, but he still pulled out something very special (loads of rare songs and guest appearances by Tim Cross, Ian Rolland and Attila).

Don't forget about the other very important ingrediant of it being a beer festival. The previous EARTHBOUND's were either a beer festival or at a brewery. :D

Hey to all of you!

It seemed to me that I am maybe a little bit late for writing to this topic and even now after reading all of these sides I am not sure if I get the result of the discussion.... (my english..)

So, but having the next earthbound in glastonwick seems to be a very good idea (I remember the last time, the beer, mr. fleagle ....). Although I do not know if I could make it.

But despite of all I would like to offer that I would try to arrange a tuts revival in germany. And there I could offer for the "foreign" tuts to sleep at my flat or house and pick you up at the airport and ...
Location could be Düsseldorf/ Bochum or Paderborn. Every place is very near to an airport.
But maybe it is better to try to do this in the next year? I dont want to confuse anybody now?

Seriously I would like to have an overseas trip, and if it were somewhere cultural then I might persuade the family to come along! (Chris would need no encouragement)

Sounds great Simse. That's very nice of you. :D

It would be great if you could make Southwick. :D I think that me, Smit, Klaus, C5, Mrs F, Fleagle and Fred are going.

Are any other TUTS going?

It's not Germany versus England Simse. It's just Germany versus Germany AND England (UK). :D

So it seems like Germany is bouncing back. Great. :D

So do the TUTS want to have two EARTHBOUNDS this year, one in Germany and one in the UK?

And if not what do you want to do?

If you do want two, and you agree with Klaus's idea about Southwick, I will help Atilla on the UK EARTHBOUND 4.

Who want's to take responsibility for the German EARTHBOUND 4? It can, or course, be more than one person. :D

Ah! Ha! The GREAT C5 he say YES!

And no-one say NO.

If things stay the same by the week-end I'll starting helping Attila market Glastonwick 10 (alias EARTHBOUND 4E).

I'll also give the German's and Austrian's who organise the EARTHBOUND 4G some help and advice if they would like some.

Tj

Well it's the week-end and no-ones said no, so let's make it official. I'll change this theme to EARTHBOUND 4G In Germany and change Glastonwick 10 at Shoreham Airport to EARTHBOUND 4E. :D

I'll help Atilla market the Glastonwick 10 gig to the TUTS. E&S are now looking to see if they can help my providing some of their excellent ale for us. :D

And even more importantly Uli, Simse, Klaus and Lari are showing interest in making our first German EARTHBOUND (TV Smith TUTS fan club gig) happen. Several UK TUTS are keen to fly too. :D:D:D

Let the games begin...

Last time there was really great. Right now I don't know any of the confirmed bands yet, except for the Boys of course. Have to wait and see what'll come and then decide wether I go or not.

What about Earthbound now? Is there anything planned already?

Title: E4G Advice As Promised
Post by: Tj on May 07, 2005, 03:18:23 PM
You folks asked for some advice of how to co-ordinate the EARTHBOUND 4 German gig, so here goes.

First decide which of the TUTS are going to organise it and what your roles are going to be. For instance someone creative like Lary might want to help TV and the TUTS by creating a flyer for the gig.

Once you have a person or team of TUTS clear about what they are going to do you can work with TV on a plan to make it a little different to the usual TV gig. I didn't use the word special, because all TV's gigs are special and uniquely distictive, for instance he very seldom plays the same set list twice in a tour.

Hope these examples help:

At EARTHBOUND 1, in Southwick, TV played with Tim Cross, Ian Rolland and Attila The Stockbroker when they played the Glastonwick 7 Music and Beer Festival. They played some extra special rare songs like The Newshound, Fire In The Darkness, Walk Away and The Easy Way.

At EARTHBOUND 2, in Peterborough, TV played his brand new Not A Bad Day album back to back at the Bogarts Beer Festival. As well as playing a TV Jukebox set that featured loads of requests and some rare class oldies like On Your Video, Dominator, People Don't Know and Impulse Buy.

At EARTHBOUND 3, in Elland, TV played 40 rare and wonderfull songs, many of which had never been played live before; like Some Kind Of War, One Of Our Missiles Is Missing, The Sure Thing, Make Your Escape and Drowning On Dry Land. The gig was held in the E&S Brewery and we drank two barrels of First Light and Tomahawk Crusie.

At The TUTS 2004 Strange Bloody Xmas party in Leeds TV performed Back From The Dead, Some Kind of War anf The Dance Of Death live on stage with Richard Strange. TV&KID had never played the later two live together before. The beer at The New Roscoe was Strange Bloody Xmas.

You don't have to compete or copy these they are just examples that I thought might help. To be honest if you fill a room full of TUTS add TV and guitar and a few beers and you will have an awesome night whatever you do!. :D :D :D

As part of your plan you can start getting a rough idea about how many   TUTS are going to travel from other countries to the gig.

You can do all this planning before TV gives you the full list of dates and that will save you time. Time is usually your bigest hurdle to overcome. I'd use this link in the TV Forum to communicate. I'd be pleased to  answer any questions that might help you.

Best of luck with EARTHBOUND 4G TUTS. :D

All I can see are kind of "festival" gigs (and all far away from me), no idea which place TV takes on these (headlining spot or else?)...

So thanks TJ for the advice - but I myself can't see that one gig which would promise to be the one to be a little different to the "usual" gig.
Maybe the one with the "Useless band" :?:  (Unlikely for me to get there though...)
Title: The TUTS E4G Team
Post by: Tj on May 09, 2005, 09:17:08 AM
What I was advising Uli is to decide who is going to organise the German EARTHBOUND 4 event and then take a more planned and proactive approach.

My personal thought on this is to get a small team together as it is quite a lot of work for one person. Speaking of which, has anyone seen of heard anything from Klaus recently I can't make contact with him at the moment?

Come on TUTS I always thought that Germans were very organised and proactive. You can do anything. :D

I believe in you.

If you want me to I can talk to Teev about this when I see him on Wednesday and Thursday?

Have any other German and Austrian TUTS anything to add or any support to give?

The good news is that several UK TUTS are keen to travel to the EARTHBOUND 4 gig in Germany (Alan, the Fleagles and C5 have already shown an interest), so that's a good start.

No I am not. I live in the South of Germany, not far from Places like Ulm, Stuttgart, Goeppingen and Tuebingen (seen loads of gigs in these towns).

Trouble is currently announced gigs are nowhere near. (Imagine me living near London and the current gigs are in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Liverpool etc. and you get the picture! Ok, one gig is in the equivalent of Cornwall, that is Schopfheim, difficult to reach from anywhere in germany as it's behind the mountains of the Black Forest...)

Good to hear TV read this and thinks about it. Maybe he will come up with the idea of the fitting venue in a good place...  :)

Geislingen?  :o  What did you do there :?:

I didn't list this above, as it's a small town, but there are some good gigs from time to time at the "Raetsche" - which would be a great place for a TUTS meet-up, unfortunately I don't think (m)any non-TUTS would show up. Also there's a youth club called MKH where I saw a punk-gig once.

However with about 15 people showing up to see TV in Ulm and "only" about 60 in Stuttgart, I doubt Geislingen would be the right place to have a go at.
Tuebingen in 2001 was pretty great, good crowd too - but TV never played there again...  :(

Gabumon is right about festivals. I like small nice festivals with a few bands more than these big festival thingies... if I go to festivals at all.

Anyway, in this case we should know how much time TV has to play. How many other bands are supposed to play? Which place will he have on the posters for the show? Is he co-headlining? Are the Boys headliners :?:

My advice is to try and find some way to comprimise. For instance Teev might do a small TUTS only gig as the day after or before, I don't know, but I do know you'll need to be imaginative or you'll just end up with a TV gig versus Festival gig argument.

My advice is ask Teev what he thinks.

And fight out what all the other German TUTS want to do, like Klaus, Simse and Hosen Fan. :D

I'm going to keep fairly quite on this one from now one as this is a German gig and I don't even know if I be going.

Good luck TUTS.

News on the German Earthbound!

Current plans:
Earthbound Germany will probably happen on Sunday 30th October 2005 in Essen.
30 Minutes away from Düsseldorf where TV is playing on Saturday at the Soundtrack Of Our Lives Festival. Also on the bill are The Boys, The Lurkers and more.

Venue in Essen will be the 'Anyway', Berliner Strasse 82.

In order to get a ticket for that event a registration on this website will be necessary.
So everybody interested in this very special event should check the website more often in the forthcoming weeks for information on how to get tickets.

As soon as TV and the Anyway have confirmed these plans, I'll list the gig on the homepage and setup the ticket-registration form.

Any feedback would be nice. Especially comments from UK-TUTS planning to come over to Germany for that weekend are very welcome.

Cheers

It's an Earthbound weekender! Saturday will be a festival atmosphere with a big audience and lots of bands playing - for those who absolutely can't come on Sunday, this should be worth the trip alone. Sunday will be a more intimate feel in a smallish pub, mainly just for TUTS so it will be an opportunity for a more varied and longer set. At least, that's the plan...I hope as many of you as possible can attend!

Post by: Tj on June 16, 2005, 02:58:33 PM
Quote
It's an Earthbound weekender! Saturday will be a festival atmosphere with a big audience and lots of bands playing - for those who absolutely can't come on Sunday, this should be worth the trip alone. Sunday will be a more intimate feel in a smallish pub, mainly just for TUTS so it will be an opportunity for a more varied and longer set. At least, that's the plan...I hope as many of you as possible can attend!
TV

Wow! Another three year follow up to Southwick Glastonwick 7 (EARTHBOUND 1) and the TUTS first gathering at The Verge. That was the first TUTS weekender.

This sounds a bit like the EARTHBOUND gigs we had in Bogarts in Peterborough and the E&S Elland brewery. Up close and intimate. All that and a Festival the day before. Awesome!

I'm going to do everything I can to make it. :D

And what do you know I might finally meet Uli too. :D

Shame you can't make it Jock. Any chance of a miracle happening?

Hey that's the day before Halloween. What about a sp 8O ky theme to the gig.

Let's see...

Haunted Heart

Ghosts

Ghost Of Westminster

Any more ideas or songs TUTS?

Songs wise I'd love to hear Perfect Life, You Saved My Life And Ruined It, Ark Of Suburbia and a rare old demo that we have never heard before.

Today I just can't stop thinking about this gig. :D

Any idea's how I can get round my wife?

Post subject: TV Song Requests For E4G

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Their already is a theme for the German EARTHBOUND 4, so I hope you don't mind Gabumon, but I've copied your post into thier. I think it's best that we keep all the posts together.

I've locked this one but not deleted it, so that the TUTS can see that they can request songs for the gig.

...Of course the set list will be down to you know who.

This is the link to post your song requests....

I've a feeling that Klaus is a pretty save bet. This morning Lisa was talking to the hairdresser about Klaus's visit so I used the opportunity to mention the week-end visit to Germany. She didn't throw it out, so, so far so good.

Song request wise I went for a sp 8O ky Halloween special.

This is the full list of song requests so far

E4G Wishsongs

Haunted Heart

Ghosts

Ghost Of Westminster

Perfect Life

You Saved My Life And Ruined It

Ark Of Suburbia

Today

I Looked At The Sun

Back From The Death

Wheels Out Of Gear

War Fever

...I think C5 is going to like your Wishsongs Gabumon. :D

Let's keep the request to a maximum of seven please TUTS. :D

Will have to think a while about a wishlist of songs...

Gabumon, maybe TV will play 47, but only if we count both the festival appearance and the smaller gig!

After a careful deliberation (which lasted all of a minute) the travelling Finns have decided to join your festivities.
Anyone got any details about the ticket prices for the festival. I found the link on the beerandmusic site but since my german is rather shit that was about as far as I got. How about b&b:s / hotels in Dusseldorff / Essen, are there plenty of those or should us faraway travellers book in advance? On a personal note I have been reading these forums for years and been bugging the piss out of TV on gigs since 1999. Since the man never shows up in Finland anymore we have hit the road on several occasions including HITS and Wasted so I will probably recognize half of you  when I see you.... And vice versa.

This will rule!

Hi RobFin!

Great news to hear you are planning to come to Germany in October!
It's not possible to order any tickets for that festival, yet.

There should be plenty of B&Bs/cheap hotels in that area.
I will ask Kalle and Annette, who are running the 'Anyway' for any recommendations.

Have we met back in 1999 during that TV Smith/Attila The Stockbroker tour?
Were you in Germany?
Maybe I even took a photo of you at that gig near Munich?

Cheers
Klaus

As this will be my first trip to Germany I doubt that you´ve caught me on film , but on the other hand everything is possible since last week it was quite a large news over here that a finnish man went out to celebrate Raikkonen winning the GP and woke up the following afternoon in Estonia with no memory how he got there....  The Stockbroker tour would have been cool to see, however. Please post info if/when you get it from Anyway. Thanks!

Yeah, a bit, but it's not a tradition here, it's an "import" from the USA (who imported it from Ireland) and thus very commercial...

Don't know if you need to scrap it, but maybe keep it low-profile, IMO of course a song like "Ghosts Of Westminster" should be played anyway...

Yes, I think Halloween's an old tradition from Ireland, of course many Irish people went to America and thus kept it going there...

So there I was on holiday with no birthday presents...

Bar my wonderful Cotleigh Brewery 3 beer pack (including my self named and commisioned Cotleigh Golden Eagle) Sun Brolley and Umbrella.

Eventually I dared to suggest to Lisa just what I would really love for my birthday.

She replied...

"That's not fair."

Any other suggestions TUTS, I'm running out of ideas.

Hi :!:
Nice to read from you!  :D

I'm also planning to make it to Essen/Düsseldorf, but I haven't made any bookings or anything at all... Probably all will be done and decided at short notice.
But I think it would be a good idea for all TUTS who are not staying with friends, to be in the same hotel, guesthouse or whatever.

To be updated, you have to read all the posts in the Forum since your last visit of course.

Hope to see you online more often!  :)

I'll go to Duesseldorf (pretty sure) and Essen (hopefully), I haven't made any bookings yet - though I've never seen the railway station in Essen at night, so I might give that one a try -  but I already bought the ticket for the festival, as I think that the venue can't take more than something between 700 and 1000 people - not really much when you consider The Boys, Lurkers and TV are playing and all that in Duesseldorf! I'm sure this is going to be a sell-out so you should get your tickets in time!

I didn't buy it, I don't own a credit card - but my sister bought it at kartenhaus (she's great isn't she  )
You could also try: www.zakk.de -> tickets -> Formular. it should be 20 Euros there including postage!

Lot's of issues at home and at work, so it's looking less and less likely.

Really don't want to let anyone down.

I would be really happy if Lisa and you could make it.

To be honest it's looking doubtful, but I did dare to get my passport out...

And it's run out of date! oops!

As I said we'll make a decision between me, Smit and Lisa this week-end.

I shall remember to ask Lisa about her favourite TV Smith song and tell her about the great shopping.

So. What the best way to get a passport quick? Would I have to go to the passport offices at Liverpool or Newcastle and queue?

On the front site it says "free entry for all Forum members". But who's gonna control that at the doors? Is everyone having to wear a badge with their Forum names on or how will anyone be able to make sure who's a Forum member or not? (We got quite many members with only a few posts, who might remember them?) Do we have to send an email or pm to Klaus that we will come?
Or is it free entry to anyone who turns up :?:

Oh no. 8O

Tell me that doesn't say 6000 posts?????

Had a great week-end with Smit, Fiona and lisa in the Cotswolds.

The decision from Lisa and Smit is that they are not going to be able to make it, due to many and various reasons.

I have one chance left.

I am working in Blackpool on Friday 28th October. C5 is flying from the North West to Germany on Saturday 29th October.

All I would need to do is...

1. Get a green light to go from Lisa. Degree of difficulty: 8/10

2. Get a plane ticket. Degree of difficulty: 7/10

3. Confirm my accomodation with Klaus. Degree of difficulty: 9/10

4. Organise accomodation for Friday night. Degree of difficulty: 5/10

5. Get a bloody passport. Degree of difficulty: 9/10

Can I only get passports from Liverpool, Newcastle and Peterborough? What ever happened to Yorkshire?

Title: The Return Of PosiTV Tj
Post by: Tj on September 24, 2005, 06:23:56 PM
So why the sudden change of heart?

Today a lot of things happened....

I read C5's post and C5 liked my let's fly from Manchester idea. That could fit in well for work when we get back too.

Lisa said let's get a pasport photo taken, you'll need yours soon. 8O  8O  8O

Read that one again!!!

Simse suggested some good ideas that could help out.

I read Klaus's great registration page...

Quote
17.00 - 20.00 DVDs & Videos on the big screen. Rarely and never before seen footage!
20.00 - 21.00 Collection of TV Smith cover versions played over the stereo.
21.00 - 22.15 TV live, playing rare and never-before played songs.
22.15 -23.00 Exclusive listening preview of new album! Current working title : 'Misinformation Overload'
23.00 - Beer

I mean who can resist...

"Beer"

BWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still got to sort that pasport though, but now I'm getting real determined...

I have now registered that...

Yes, I am a TUTS and I want to be there!

Too right I do.

Come on super-coach show us what you are made of!!!

Title: schedule
Post by: Uli on September 25, 2005, 10:06:55 AM
Well let's hope beer will be available before 11pm...

Anyway, the schedule sounds great, apart from the fact that TV "only" has 75 minutes to play.  8O
Well, hopefully we can exceed that if necessary.  :)
Listening to the new album before it's out will surely be exciting!

If anyone wants to book a hotel, let us know which one, as Kaenga had suggested we all stay in the same one if possible (a good idea) :!:

Nice one Gabumon. :D

So what's been happening, whilst I've been away?...

Green Light: Lisa said I can go to have a ball.

Green Light: Klaus has sorted my accomodation.

Green Light: My new passport has arrived.

Green Light: Klaus is getting me and C5 the Saturday festival tickets.

Amber Light: The flight from Manchester has doubled in price. It is now £175.  8O Or I could travel to Standstead and fly for £3.28.

...Hmmm.

Decisions, decisions.

Good to hear about all your green lights, TJ!

I'm still hoping to be able to go too.  :D
Haven't sorted out any accomodation though. Which hotel did Klaus sort for you? Or are you all staying in private places like Simse's?

Anyway, would be good to know where other travellers will stay.

Also I'd like to know if we can have a pre-meeting at the festival of course.  Meeting point  :?:

I'm curious and would like to know: how many registrations do we have, Klaus? Thanks for making all the effort of organising!! (I probably wouldn't have found enough patience and time.)

Yo, I'm positive about making the journey (even if it might mean a lot of work in the days before and after), so we can have a real great time and finally get to meet each other and lots of other TUTS we already know or haven't met before.  :)

Should have sorted it out earlier Tj  :P

Gonna see if Smit will change his mind when he finds out about the cheap flights from that London. If he still isn't going then it's time to rob Shady's piggy bank and Germany via Manchester here I come.

Actually it's Shady The Wonder Dog's 4th birthday today and we have just bought him a wooly pig toy...

Post by: Tj on October 15, 2005, 03:35:57 PM
Another week of ups and DOWNES.

On Wednesday night I met up with Smit and at midnight he announced he had changed his mind and decided to go to EARTHBOUND 4 in Germany. :D

This meant we could fly from the ultra-chaep Stanstead airport for £2.99 per ticket. :D

Signed on to Ryan Air and they had just put the prices up to £29.99. This cost me and Smith almost an extra £120. Unlucky. :(

Sorted out some excellent value for money accomodation with a very friendly landlord I know. :D

So now it is Tj Smit & C5 all EARTH BOUND.

England beat Poland 2-1.

ENGLAND ARE ON THIER WAY TO GERMANY.  :D  :D  :D

You'd better believe it. :D

Post by: Tj on October 15, 2005, 06:53:15 PM
Things usually start hotting up with two weeks to go Uli.

Klaus is on holiday, C5 has just got back from his, but where are the other TUTS EARTHBOUND?

The main thing to do is to decide where the meet at the Soundtrack festival and Essen.

At Morecambe we all made are way to the right hand front of the gig to watch TV. Does that sound like a good idea?

Yes, good idea, to the right hand in front of the stage when TV plays, I'll keep it in the back of my head. (However it would be good to meet up earlier to be chatting a bit between bands playing or so...)

Where to meet in Essen is the easiest thing, as it's starting off quite early, I'd say inside the "Anyway" :!:

You are right Lari as a Coach 'confidentiality' is my middle name.

I only mentioned it because two different people said two simliar things and I was real keen to get people talking on the forum about the two gigs. As sometimes happens with me I get a little over enthused.

I should have resisted the temptation.

I'm sorry.

Can't afford to get ill, as there's enough work to do. (If this gets better until next week, things will look more positive on my part!!)

Not too much work has arrived for next week (as yet). Told my folks that I probably won't be here from Sat-Mon at the end of the month.
In short, it looks like I will make it!  :D

Plan to get my train ticket until Monday. If no-one sticks their finger out, I will book myself any hotel I can find for both Duesseldorf and Essen.

If anyone wants to meet me in Duesseldorf, I will be the ugly guy with a beer in his hand!  :P

Yes, I'm still positive about it, looking forward and all that. Most of last night at the Go-Betweens gig I had a smile on my face (not only because it was a nice gig, but because I did look forward so much)!

Good news is that cheap tickets for 1st Class hadn't gone and only having to pay 5,50 more for that, I said "yes". Never having travelled 1st class, I'm looking forward to that. Also I kinda like the irony of going to a punk festival in 1st class, quite a contrast!

Nice one Uli.

...But like me and Smit waiting has cost us good money.

I'm out here m8. :D

...and we've had a post from 'Admin' which is nice.

Smit's tried twice to get on the forum. Maybe there are technical difficulties that are keeping all the other TUTS away. Can see why those that can't make it are quiet, but can't get my head around those that are going that have gone quiet. For instance I havn't heard a word from Gabumon for ages.

I did get a text from Teev though whose just got back from the USA. He, like Klaus, confirmed that the gigs going ahead as planned...

Can't wait. :D

Everything's OK

No need to worry!
All preparations for the gig are going on as planned.
Everyone who has registered will receive a confirmation on Monday.

Hey! Today is Monday. :D I'll have to try and get that dahn email working again.

Did anyone enjoy my special TV&KID posts especially produced to celebrate our first ever EARTHBOUND outside of England?

Yeah, I know you are there!
Hm, is "Kid" coming along with you?
Would be strange, but nice.  :)

Indeed the post from our "Admin" was very uplifting and made me happy and all that - but: no-one else is a bit "thin"...
At least Smit has tried it. My guess is that others are too busy to make all their ends meet to be able to go...
Well, I've had some work to do as well today, tomorrow too but after that it will hopefully be a little more quiet (business-wise), so I can relax and prepare for the weekend.  :D

Great to hear TV also confirms the thing is going ahead.

I'm really really looking forward.  8)

Kid Sundown will be their but I somewhat doubt that the Great Strange will make Essen Uli.

Hey look at the bright side it takes two to talk, so good job it isn't just one of us. :D

Post by: Uli on October 25, 2005, 07:25:36 AM
Lari is there too, so it seems like 3 of us who are talking quite regularly, better than no-one of course.  :D
Let's hope there's more than 3 of us at E4!

Of course for any TUTS who haven't followed the discussion from the start, 20 pages is a bit much...

Still waiting for my confirmation too.
How many did register, Klaus?

So it's 60 incl. guests. Not bad :!:
We'll be more than three of us.

Still don't know the 2 songs I'd like to hear most.
How about Gary Gilmore's Eyes played twice?
(Only joking...)

Wow! I had the feeling that only a handfull of people were going.

That's good news.

Has anyone any questions about the gig?

What two songs would you most like to hear?

Think I'd better switch PC's and and try to receive that emailed confirmation.

Btw, I booked myself into the "Frohnhauser Hof" in Essen, which seems to be the closest to the "Anyway". (Just to make sure the TUTS won't have to carry me that far if I pass out, ha ha.)
Haven't sorted out a hotel for Duesseldorf, guess I'll do that when I arrive there...

According to the weather forecast I heard today, you can leave your winter coats at home! We are having very mild autumn days at the moment - hope it'll stay that way until next week.  :D

I really hope to hear a lot of songs I haven't heard before, like some new ones, old demos etc.   8)

Hm, have I got it all? Train ticket, festival ticket, TUTS ticket, hotel booked, book bought (for the train ride), should be ready now...

I'll check the weather forecast again tonight and tomorrow and will keep you informed.
Today was good, cloudy at first then the sun came out. Really warm. The woods looked great in all their colours.  :D

Even if it rains on Sat-Sun, we will be inside anyway. But it would be good to take a nice little walk in the cities while we are there...
Got myself a city map of Essen, my sister will borrow me hers of Duesseldorf, so I won't get lost (I hope).

Oh, Lari's leaving already. Quite a journey from Austria...  :o

Well, I'll be heading for the train station on Saturday about 11am, should be there in Duesseldorf by 2.30 pm (it's a fast train)!

Good to know Gabumon will do a video of the gig.  :D

Should've gone to the Dentist long time ago. Well, no big problems till now, but it would be typical to start when I'm far away...
But I will have some "aspirin" tablets with me, let me know then if you need one, TJ.

Title: Up Beat
Post by: Tj on October 28, 2005, 12:41:47 PM
So you are going for the rare ones eh! Gabumon. :D

Cheap is probably TV's most humerous song (well along with Xmas Bloody Xmas).

I understand that Beat Up Your Boyfriends wasn't an Adverts song but the song written by TV to be released as the first single by Gaye Advert. That's what I heard somewhere anyway.

I've just finished playing my way though all TV's albums. See what the four albums are that surpased my expectations by hitting this link...

Exciting times here in Dusseldorf

TJ AND SMIT are still in BED!-check the time of this post

But I am up and have 5 mins to tell you all about last night.

TV had only a 30 min set so he had to cram all his songs in.

Its fair to say he rattled through them in between banter with the crowd in German of all things-smart arse

Songs played included:IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

Immortal Rich
Generation Y
Gary Gilmore
Bring the Bull Down
Perhaps the Good Times are back
Useless
Bored Teenagers
One chord wonder
You saved my life then ruined it

I am sure somebody will give a better set list than this but its a start

The highlight was undoubtedly the reception TV received-we all commented that we have never seen TV received so enthusiastically in the UK

AND

Thats a great shame really

I am sure that our exploits will be documented in great detail when we return

But for now I would like to say a special thanks to Simse, Jurgen and Klaus for their warm welcome and hospitality

To say how great it was to see the above mentioned trio again but also to meet Uli, Hosenfan, Lari and others I am sure that I have forgotten for the first time

And to say finally

Cant wait for tonight

Post by: Tj on October 31, 2005, 05:48:23 PM
Let's see...

1 brand new song (Xmas Bloody Xmas and Good Times Are Back were also launched at previous EARTHBOUNDS)

4 rare demo's (including the fantastic 'Today' which is so rare it isn't even in the TV Songs listings and the hilarious Cheap).

4 rare Explorers songs (including The Perfect Life - which I've been after since EARTHBOUND 3 and Imagination 8O )

5 rare Cast Of Thousands songs including I Looked At The Sun 8O )

and...

Wait for it...

8 Channel 5 CD songs. 8O  8O  8O  8O  8O  8O  8O  8O A Token Of My Love and Haunted Heart were superb. 8)

...One very happy Mr C5.

Other highlights included Steffi on Kazoo on Last True Song.

Great to meet all the German/Austrian/Swiz TUTS. Too many to mention individually but thank you ever so much for your hospitality. :D

Everything was going so well until me, Smit and C5 started the Runaway Train Conga. Rikki Flag clearly hasn't been to Germany. We got one hell of a lot of funny looks. That never happens with Fleagle at the helm.

Both me and Smit are very horse today - don't think we've ever sung-a-long quite that loud before. At least Pamp appeared to like it.

Special thanks to Smit and C5 for the company, Simse and Jurgon The German for their hospitality, Lari for looking out for me and Klaus, Teev, The TUTS and all at Anyway for making it such an awesome night. :D

There...

And I didn't even mention the ace video's TV covers and the awesome new album. :D

Title: TUTS meeting
Post by: Uli on October 31, 2005, 08:39:18 PM
Hi TUTS,

so here I am, back home since about 2-3 hours, hope you all had a safe journey home as well.
This weekend was a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but with more ups than downs (luckily)!  :)
Great to meet you all! I'll be back with a longer review tomorrow. Today I will go to bed very early, as I stayed up until after 4am, been sitting in the "Anyway" for a long time with TV (among others), discussing his lyrics and so on... Very tired and a bit hungover now, but it was worth it all, had a GREAT time with you TUTS!  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Hi Hosen Fan,

nice to see you're online too! Great to meet you there in Duesseldorf. And let's forget about how the night ended...

Great to finally meet the UK TUTS TJ, C5 and Smit, very nice people you are! Great to meet TV, Lari77, Klaus, René and Pamp again. Great to finally get to know Gabumon, Simse and Juergen. Also chatted to MAKO and probably some more people I forgot right now...  :)

Good morning... I'm finally back from the dead!

I had a really really really great time in Germany, it was so fantastic to see so many TUTS in a small venue, even if some were a bit scary

I wanna apologize to Herr C Fuenf for requesting no more Channel 5 Songs... I punish myself right now by listen to the record over and over again - and to be honest: it's better than I remembered it to be!

Title: Channel 5
Post by: Uli on November 01, 2005, 11:33:06 AM
Hey, good to hear Lari got back home as well.  :)

Not that I dislike Channel 5, it is a good album (though I prefer some of TV's other albums), however the songs sound very different anyway when TV plays them live. I really enjoyed to hear these songs (and was kinda surprised it were so many - C5 was the happiest man on earth), especially On Your Video and Haunted Heart.
Also really loved Imagination and Walk Away. In fact it was a set of highlights, it's difficult to name some of them, as I enjoyed it all so so so much. Standing right in front of TV I listened to the songs and forgot about anything else... I didn't even see you tried to do a "Conga" :!:

It's my sister's birthday today, so I don't have as much time as I hoped to have, but I'll try and review more later!
Title: Herr C Fuen
Post by: Tj on November 01, 2005, 08:42:56 PM
Hi TUTS. Great to meet you all too. Even if some of you looked a couple of years younger than me...

I've just been talking to Herr C Fuen and we both agreed that the best of the Channel 5 8 was Token Of My Love - What an awesome version.

And Lari don't apologise he deserved that request being written.

Really looking forward to your review Uli.

I might even come out of retirement and do one myself, but it will be from memory not a taped copy and I didn't write anything in my gig review book so that should be a little bit shorter and kind a different.

I'll try and write a review later on, tonight I'm just too tired after the long weekend and today's eating at my sis' b-day...

I would be really happy if any of the other TUTS who were there and haven't posted (much) yet, would post what they thought about our Earthbound meeting :!:

Cheap was great fun...

How did that creep in? Who cares. :D

I Looked At The Sun was brilliant, I went over and sang along with Klaus. It was a song he's wanted to hear live for ages. :D

I Surrender was a great sing-a-long ANYWAY song, only spoilt by that strange bloke at the front waving his hankerchief in the air as TV sang "hand me the white flag."   Good job TV missed seeing it.

Post by: MAKO on November 04, 2005, 08:30:45 PM
Hi,
I just wanted post my comments On EB4.
First of all, my ride home felt like hell and I finally reached my door at about 6.30 but the evening before was surely worth it.  I had 30 minutes to get prepared for school. So I decided to skip school for that day.

It was great seeing all the TUTS and especially to find out everyone ist a really nice person. At least those I got the chance to talk to.

I liked the atmosphere and the programme besides the highlights TV live and MO pre-listening. The video screenings were great and although not one single cover version was better than the original it was interesting to hear them.

TV was so overwhelming. I don't know how this thin man gets so much energy transported. I did not know much of the setlist but I'm sure C5 was one very happy man this evening  :D It is good to know there's so much more great material to explore if I'll ever get the chance to.
The last and new song impressed me most. Containing this line "We needed help - the troops were somewhere else" it made me wonder how perfect someone can describe situations. Great song!

In my opinion Misinformation Overload sounded awesome. It seems like TV was in the mood for punk rock in the making and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

At last I want to send out greetings to erverone who was there and especially Uli (Thanks for introducing me to the TUTS and the nice talking)

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you again. See you.
Title: thanx

Great to read from you, MAKO, thanks for posting your comments on this event :!:
Nice to meet you too. Rest assured, all the TUTS are nice.   :D

Good comments on MO too, I must admit I didn't find the chance for concentrated listening as I was always chatting to someone. But what I heard sounded great, and, like you said, more punkrocking as "Not a bad day".

Sorry to hear your way home was so awful. Hopefully next time it will go better.

My review still isn't finished... Been working too much...

Yeah! Great news Uli. :D Howcome no-one seems to write in German anymore - maybe that is waht has limited some of the posting. :D

I'm pretty sure I met Alex. If it was you hi. You were right on the front row if I'm correct. :D Glad you liked The Servant. That's one of my favourite TV songs ever. :D

Did I meet you too Mako? Glad you reminded us that we heard Misinformation Overeload - I was a little merry on beer by that point, but what I can recall yours and Uli's descriptions sound about right. it sounded like a fusion Red Sea and Not A Bad Day with added class and balls.   Sounded like a really consistent album packed with great tunes and lyrics.

I've re-started this theme in TV Songs if anyone wants to talk or read about TV's new album. :D

Hopefully he'll put the E4 England photo's up too - I've been dying to see PK's TUTS GENY backing singers photo for quite a while. :D

My photo's have arrived too.

What I want to know is why all the female TUTS look prettier than us males. I think I've got a faulty camera.

AH! I remember it was Lisa's camera - it's pro fem!!! :P

I've just received a great batck of photo's from Steffi. Some hysterical photo's of the Crazt Englanders Three and Kool Klaus.

Many, many thanks for those Steffi. I loved every single one. :D

I also have received my first film back from the developers. On one C5 (probably on hearing the 8th C5 Cd song of the night) looks like he has gone beyond a seventh heaven - I've never seen someone looking so awe struck.  8O

I'll try to find a way to get all these on the site. Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to bother Klaus all teh time and put them straight into The Archives ouselves.

Been thinking about this gig a lot this week.

Wouldn't it be great to go through it all again. :D

Remember Haunted Heart and the discussion about how TV believed having sex with dead bodies is wrong...

...and someone disagreed? 8O

Yeah, there was someone who looked like an old punk and stood in front of me, he seemed to disagree when TV mentioned that at the age of 49 he thought that sex with the dead was wrong...

After that "disagreement" that guy disappeared and I didn't see him again for the whole night!  :o
Which made my sight to the "stage" much better as after this I stood right in front of TV...  :)
Great night, let's see if we can repeat it.  :D

No wonder Dave Thompson talks about the great Channel 5 EARTHBOUND in Essen in his collectors guide.

What a night! 8)

This first EARTHBOUND in Germany is such a fitting tribute to both C5 and his favourite musician Tim Cross.

Definately my favourite ever gig abroad.

It was THE CHANNEL 5 SHOW. :D

If you listen closely to the crowd you can hear C5 shout "I'll die a happy man."

Some people change lifes.
