Title: The TUTS & EARTHBOUND - How It All Began
Post by: Tj on May 05, 2002, 11:39:09 AM
Thanks Klaus - This is a post I've been thinking about for a while and now thanks to you know what coming back here it is:

A couple of people have asked me how the TUTS (TV UK Tour Supporters) began and why the Southwick 2 gig has become such a major TV event. It's hard to believe that their are 10 pages of posts on Southwick 2. This surge has mainly been led by, the man getting most of the punters their, my good friend PK :D

So here is TUTS 1 - The Prologue.

Quote
Hi TV and the TVers,

I was aghast to see the latest tour news. Where oh where is the home countries? Just when I thought we were coming out of this SAD time of year I get news like this.

ARSE!!!

There that feels better!

I suppose I shouldn't feel too bad as I did catch Southwick and that wasn't A Bad Day!

Hi Tj,

So I hope that you are now a little bit jealous (hihi)!

But maybe are the lot of tourdates in Germany, Austria and so a reason for you to visiting Germany, Austria or Swiss?

Despite of all I wish you a great day today

Most of you want a new forum.
Fred, MrC5, TJ and even TV did some testing in the last week and I think we can now launch the new forum.
You can access it here:
www.tvsmith.com/forum

The old forum will still be available for viewing, but posting will be disabled, soon.

It probably will take some to to get used to the new forum, but I am sure, you will like the new features.
If your native language isn't English, you might appreciate the option to choose between English, French, Finnish and German.
If someone needs a different language, post a request in the Bug&Request forum and I will see, what we can do for you.

Klaus

hI tj,

BLEEDING HELL ...YOU DID ALL THESE POSTS IN ONE DAY  :!:  8O

Thanks for the praise   but we all know the main mover and shaker of the T.U.T.S. movement is you mate

I dont think there's another TV fan out there that can compete with the knowledge & support that you bring to this forum. With the exception of one album....yes that's you Mr C5  :!:

Yes the Southwick 2 posting has been quite astonishing especially as its been fired up by just a few "forward" thinking individuals.I'm quite proud to be involved in helping resurrect interest in the UK but we shouldnt forget there are going to be many other gig's as well  :?
I wonder if the London & Ipswich gigs will be as well attended  :?:

London I dont think will be too bad but I'm worried about Ipswich  :!:
Does anyone know of any fans in Suffolk/Norfolk areas,I certainly hav'nt come across any  :(
I'm still working on the flyers to promote the website.I hope this will draw some more people to get involved.

I know I dont have to say this but keep it up TJ  :!:

Thanks PK,

Looking back I was on full tilt wasn't I? 14 posts in 49 minutes - is that a record Klaus? Pity I didn't do 16 and then I would have hit the 1000th post 8O

Thanks for your kind words, not sure I agree with the TV knowledge bit as there are a lot of fans who know boat loads about TV. For instance C5 has every edition of TV Times and I have never seen one 8O He said that the Doctors Of Madness gets a lot of mentions which is a double reason to track them down - I wonder if there is anywhere I can buy copies from :?:

Regarding Ipswich, well here I do have some knowledge; try Rikki Flag at Know Your Products in Ipswich 8O You can ask about the ADVERTS ATTITUDE T shirt as well. You can contact Rikki through the TV LINKS page :D

Thanks again PK and sorry about the old forum battle - I was trying to get some debate going, like we had on the are DTH postings

Not one of my most poular quizes...

The TUTS first gathering was at The Verge on May 30th 2002 just prior to EARTHBOUND 1 at Southwick.

It was the first ever gig that TV specially arranged for the TUTS (and especially Simse and Klaus who came over from Germany for Glastonwick 7).

TV invited Erik Russell (The Explorers guitarist) as a special guest and they played Last Words Of The Great Explorer and Tomahawk Cruise together. Erik played ELECTRIC guitar.

EARTHBOUND Elland

EARTHBOUND is the official TV Smith fan club gathering for fans from all over the Earth.

There is now one official event per year. Last years EARTHBOUND was in Germany.

The main EARTHBOUND 2010 gig is at Elland Brewery in Elland in between Huddersfield and Halifax.

It will be the fourth EARTHBOUND gig at the brewery.

The first Elland EARTHBOUND was on 28.05.04 with just TV. Although now billed as the third EARTHBOUND in reality it was the first gig called EARTHBOUND prior to the event. We went back in time and named the first two special gatherings EARTHBOUND after the second one.

The second Elland EARTHBOUND was on 9.09.06 at the brewery was part one of the Exploring Madness gigs which TV played with Stoner and Richard Strange. My nephew Sam Oates and his mate Dean were the support act at the brewery gig which Tv played solo.

The third Elland EARTHBOUND gig was on 27.10.07. The second part of a triple set of Fire in the Darkness gigs to celebrate the live of Dave Allen aka C5 aka Backstage Bob; TV’s most loyal long serving fan ever who died of cancer in early 2007. The first two gigs in Derby and Elland were by the Two Tim’s. Seeing Tim Cross playing keyboards balanced on beer barrels was a sight to be seen. A much developed Sam and Dean were again in support.

The fourth Elland EARTHBOUND will be part of a special two or three part Cheap Price tour featuring the talents of TV Smith and Leigh Heggarty. Sam has keenly offered his support. The gig is looking like attracting the largest gathering of TUTS to date.

…Now how do we attract the American and Australian TUTS EARTHBOUND in 2010?

1st of June. Southwick "Glastonwick" Festival. A TV Smith gig, a Ruts tribute band, lots of other bands and hundreds of cask conditioned real ales. So TJ - NOW are you happy?!!

For a couple of years the gig was called Southwick 2.

It set the real ale theme that has flowed through these very special fan conventions. :D

TV certainly knows how to make me happy. He even went on to add Richard Strange, Tim Cross, Ian Rolland and Attila the Stockbroker to the pot.

Yep! I was very happy and soon stopped all my TUTing.

Thanks Ilove. I would have loved to see Teev and Vom at last years Earthbound. I interviewed Vom for TV Times 45 & 46. Been thinking about what I should do about the interview and the big piece on Dave Thompson (the true founding member of The TUTS did all TV fans proud of WE WHO WAIT).

Best buy rather than try and ask Fleagle for the TUTS hotel details.

Don't mean to tease but... Me and Fleag have got an interesting idea for this years Earthbound that's so exclusive that we havn't even asked TV about it yet.

As Fred Pontin used to say with his thumbs up "book early".

Always great fun to look back on the photo's in this and other EARTHBOUND themes about 11 years of The TUTS & EARTHBOUND before an annual EARTHBOUND gig.

From The Verge (featuring Erik Russell) and Glastonwick 7 in Southwick (featuring Tim Cross and a TV duet with Richard Strange) in 2002 to the WE WHO WAIT show at The Hope in Carshallton in 2012. Every gig a real gem brightly sparkling in the mud.

Here's to TV & The TUTS and fondly celebrating the lives of Tim Cross and C5.

We've had so many wonderful times.
