Title: Fleags EARTHBOUND UK 08 in Wallington's Windmill: Saturday Gig on November 15th
Post by: Tj on February 23, 2008, 07:22:11 PM
TUTS WANTED to Run UK EARTHBOUND 08!

Had a brief e-chat with Teev about UK EARTHBOUND 08. We didn't nail anything down.

Have any TUTS got any great ideas?

My last great idea was in 1997.

We haven't got a clue of who'll be helping TV in the organising yet, never mind the date and the location. Sorry Peter.

Me thinks, Alan, that as Tj is focused on sorting out his special birthday party he just might be looking for another TUTS volunteer to help TV arrange EARTHBOUND UK this year. ;)

It's fair to share isn't it? :D

Alan

I'm afraid at the moment I don't see any signs of us having a UK EARTHBOUND 2008 Alan, as we haven't had one single volunteer to date.

Ah! Well! At least I have my very own TV party.  :D :D :D

Come on TUTS step up. I've had a hand in the other UK EARTHBOUND's it must be someone else's turn this year.

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly IS Earthbound? ???

Over the last few years we've had some "fan gatherings" and special TV gigs (playing more "rarities") to go with them!  :D
Called "Earthbound", happened in UK as well as in Germany. See respective threads for details.

Might not exactly belong here, but just a little note, that plans for Earthbound Germany 2008 will be taking shape as soon as dates for September/October are announced.
Organising Earthbound Germany is a lot easier than it is and has been for TJ to organise Earthbound UK.
Knowing that you don't have to look for a proper venue, takes a lot of hassle away from the task.
So all due respect to TJ for doing it over the past years!

Why thank you Klaus and Uli. ;D

If I'm truly honest (don't read this bit Fred) I borrowed the EARTHBOUND idea from Mike Peters; The Gathering. It's about a gathering of TV fans to listen to favourite and rare songs by TV Smith. The title was taken from the song EARTHBOUND on Not A Bad Day. Being a fans gathering to see TV bound from locations all over the planet.

EARTHBOUND are (at least) two annual TV Smith gigs that are predimonately for the TV Smith United Tour Supporters (a.k.a his fans).

The main difference between a normal TV Smith gig and an EARTHBOUND gig is that at a normal gig TV doesn't put much effort into his set and he just coasts along. At EARTHBOUND he really goes for it and gives it every ounce of his energy.

...Okay! Okay! Okay alreaday! I admit it! I'm totally joking.

The real main difference is that at EARTHBOUND TV plays a string of really rare TV Smith songs from his back catalogue of 200 songs. These are voted for by his fans (The TUTS) and some like, Drowning On Dry Land, are chosen by TV himself. TV goes out of his way to shock fans by playing the very unexpected. Like... rare 80's demo's, The Revolutions The Same punk version, Dum De Dum by Sleaze, Some Kind Of War by Richard Strange and TV Smith and Daydreaming by Die Toten Hosen and TV Smith. The gigs also feature special guests like Richard Strange, Tim Cross and BB Quattro.

For me, they are always without doubt the best gigs of the year. 8)

The most popular locations to date have been The Anyway bar in Essen, Germany and the E&S Elland Brewery in West Yorkshire. Every year one of the UK gigs revolve around a theme of beer. Three have been in a brewery and three have been at beer festivals. So far there have been seven UK EARTHBOUNDS and three German EARTHBOUNDS.

The whole fan club The TUTS were pretty much formed around the first EARTHBOUND at Southwick. In fact we first met the night before at The Verge to watch TV play with Erik Russell of The Explorers.

We sometimes have special gigs like the Strange Bloody Xmas and the two Exploring Madness gigs that are an offshoot of EARTHBOUND. To date these have included TV, Richard Strange and Stoner (from The Explorers) and someone else who's name escapes me.

Basically EARTHBOUNDS are awesome DJ and I'm keen to start talking about the 08 event because a year just wouldn't be the same without a UK EARTHBOUND.

Hope that helps clarify EARTHBOUND DJ.  :D

Did I miss anything TUTS?

Any questions one and all?

Erm, yes, you missed the Runaway Train Conga, which comprises of a few foolhardy TUTS who've had a few pints exhibiting the fact that they are more than slightly drunk while Alan and Gabumon collect video evidence... ;D

So, is there a UK venue in mind? If not does it have to be large? And could it be in London or, say, Canning Town, East London. And when would it likely be?

The BH2 in Canning Town holds about 120 and I'd have no problem securing a date anytime after May.

Just thought I'd mention it. :)
Title: Re: TUTS WANTED to Run UK EARTHBOUND 08!

The gigs tend to be small and intermet DJ.

...But the main thing is that we have an EARTHBOUND.

If we have it in London, maybe some of the other TUTS living in Greater London could co-organise it. At least it will be good for travelling for the German TUTS and I hear it's pretty near TV Smith himself.

I don't really want to run it in Elland Brewery every year as the novelty feel could well wear off.

Interestingly the head brewer in Elland asked me yesterday if we wanted to have an EARTHBOUND gig there this year?

We've had an e-chat and like I thought we are looking for something like a small and intermate pub (or brewery or beer festival) for the UK EARTHBOUND.

The TUTS don't always go to the London gigs, which is probably why no-ones posted about the last one.

Ideally we'd like to have somewhere away from London centre so we can keep accomodation costs down, to make it viable for more TUTS to make the journey.

Mega thanks for trying to help out DJ. Much appreciated. :D

Looking at TV's current touring schedule the UK EARTHBOUND will probably be later on in the year.

Title: EARTHBOUND 08.1 Proposal
Post by: Mrs Fleagle on May 14, 2008, 02:04:23 PM
EARTHBOUND 8  to elaborate on Fleagles brief post above, this is the Fleagles proposal for Earthbound 8 (UK)  8)

Fleagle discussed possible dates with Mr Smith and the 5th July was decided as the best option (given other dates were Fridays)  8)

The venue is a room at the Windmill Pub, the pub is on the bus route from Croydon, there are night buses that go past the pub to Croydon and trains through the night from East Croydon to Central London.

For anyone who may wish to stay over there are a couple of hotels 15 and 20 mins walk from the pub one 5 mins either side of Fleagles house (for those who have visited Fleagle land). As a bonus it is a down hill walk from the pub and there will also be buses for the less active. We may be able to negotiate a better price with the hotels if there were enough people interested as I know the Hotels mainly cater for business people during the week and tend to be quiet at the weekends and sometimes do offers. 8)

If you wanted to do Glastonwick on the Friday you would not be able to get a train back but it's about an hours drive, from here or of course you could stay in Shoreham or Brighton :)

Not sure on situation for under 18's, if anyone wanted to bring juniors we could check this out  :-\

Well that's the plan so far  ;D

Fred glad to have you onboard, fingers crossed this would be a good date for everyone  ;D

Let us know what you think and we will set the wheels in motion  ;D

re July 5th

Just to say that this date is NOT SET IN STONE, as far as the venue goes it will not be a problem anytime really - its just when TV can tie things in - he has given me a couple of Friday dates ( the day before Cambridge and the day before Flag day in Ipswich) but he also says there will probably be later dates in the year - so If the concensus is that we do later in the year - so be it!
Awaiting any comments

Not sure if I'll be able to make the 5th - but I'll certainly try!

Another possible location could be Spalding, I think I know a possible venue (the Blues club here which has featured 9 Below Zero amongst others). The only trouble is Spalding's not the easiest location to make it to and we don't have many hotels here - although a travel inn is opening in July, and other than travelling TUT's I am nervous of crowd size!

So Croydon I think is the better location, but maybe next time?

I dont mind where it is:) ...Lincoln would be good as its a bit more central but at least we have this option in Sunny carshalton :) , really I neeed to know - (mostly but not conclusively )from UK TUTS when their preferred time of year and any non available dates
it would be nice if we could get everybodythere - perhaps people can PM me their UNAVAILABLE dates re holidays etc and We will try to arrange for a Saturday when all can get there - probably asking the impossible.. but you regulars/past attendees speak now or forever hold your head in despair

Fleags. You know the Croydon area's not a problem for me and Xa. And that date of the 5th is fine. And if it was a week later on Saturday 12th we'd be in Croydon anyway 'cause Sunday 13th is that Punkstock all day thingie at The Walkabout.

And the day before Flag Day in Ipswich is fine too. I'm DJing and doing the quiz at that.

As to 'dates to avoid'...
It would be easier to say what days we CAN make it than list all the ones we couldn't. Ha! But some are..

Saturday 21st June - JC & THE DISCIPLES @ BH2, Canning Town (my gig)
Thursday 26th June - TV Smith @ Bull & Gate, Kentish Town (A plug!)
Saturday 28th June - UK SUBS @ Shepperds Bush (unless moved to another venue)
Sunday 13th July - PUNKSTOCK ALLDAYER @ Walkabout, Croydon
Saturday 2nd August - AND NOW WE'RE EVEN @ BH2, Canning Town (my gig)
7th through 11th August - BLACKPOOL (REBELLION)
Saturday 30th August - RED FLAG 77 DAY @ Steamboat, Ipswich (I'm DJing and quizmaster)
Saturday 6th September - X~RAY SPEX @ Chalk Farm Roundhouse

We are TUTSupporters. ;D

Arranging these gigs is a lot of work let's give them all the positive encouragement they need to make this amazing advenure happen. :D

It's great to book it near London so that the German TUTS will find it a little easier. :D Nice one. :D

It's in my diary Fleagles. Please can you book me some accomodation?

I've text Smit, if he's not on holiday he'll be up for it too. :D

Thank you so much for running it this year. It would hve been a real shame to miss our first yearof EARTHBOUND.

THE TV Smith UK fan club gathering. Special rare songs. Long sets. Great people and lots of...

BEER! :D

YOU ROCK...

...GODS!  :D

Thank you so much.

I am a very happy man. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Nice one Fred and DJ ROCK too. :D

Now all I need is a Sparks show. ;)

I have just found out that there is a disco in the Pub the same night and it is more than likely that the sound will filter through at a disturbing volumne - enough to ruin our evening of proper music - so I will ask Mr Smith re dates later in the year on a Saturday

What you've heard about Fleagle and Tony?

What a propostion that was.

Look Fred you sign up some TUTS to EARTHBOUND and I'll offer you a lifeline...

You are a man with instinction and a master of communication you can help the Fleagles make this gig happen.

You know this to be true.

I know, I know you might be saying "I don't need this pressure on me" but Fleag could sure do with a hand. He can cover London we need someone else to enthuse the other TUTS into coming along.

To cut a long story short we need FRED.

I know, I know your saying "don't paint me down Tj, your putting me on the spot. I'm not some musclebound bouncer who can force people to attend EARTHBOUND 08 in Wallington in September (TV permitting). Only when YOU leave will I do this TJ!"

But I'm not leaving Fred. :-*

So Fred if you want Tj to put The Freeze on this abuse from Tj all you have to say is say "Okay I'll help Fleag make this annual TV Smith EARTHBOUND fan club gathering a success. I'll go for Gold for you TV Smith!"

Do that for me Fred and I'll love you like the diamond you truly are.  :-*

September / October would be purely down to TV's availability Uli. We can have virtually any Saturday as long as it does not coincide with the disco in the pub...as it is far too loud!

Ok TUTS  ;D

In order to start getting things organised EARTHBOUND 2008 I will need to get some numbers etc as it is a private event and on a first come first served basis. Pub is Child friendly as It is a private function ( Co79?)

I propose to send tickets outs to all those attending - and also we may arrange a buffet depending on what you people think/require, the buffet would cost £5 per head and would be a mixture of VEG/VEGAN/MEAT accordingly.

We also may be able to get a discount at a local hotel for a group booking so if you may be interested in this let us know. the hotel is 7/10 of a mile from the gig (downhill!!) details here:   http://www.dukesheadsurrey.co.uk/default.htm (http://www.dukesheadsurrey.co.uk/default.htm)

What I would ask everybody to do who wishes to attend - please private mesaage me with the following details:

EXAMPLE BELOW

name:  fleagle

tickets required  4

buffet required : 3 as below
1 meat
2 vegan
1 no thanks

HOTEL:

1 double room
2 single roms

address to send ticket:

11 fleagles gaff
the place
clone town
BBQ 1234

thanks people - lets make this a good one!!

Hi all, (EVERYONE!)
A special Hi to Pip, as myself and Jo (Second Class Citizen) haven't spoken to you for ages, but I'm really hoping we can get the Earthbound gig done this year. I shall wait a little while before reserving places as our finances and calendars are not very firmly set at this moment in time. As soon as we have some definites I'll get on the list!
As always you can PM me or email me if you have the address to hand. It'd be great to see Jock and Carol too, as it's been a while (Blackpool 06 if I remember right?)

If Saturday's WALMing UP for the UK EARTHBOUND 08 was anything to go by then it's going to be one of the greatest EARTHBOUND's ever.

And that's bearing in mind that the nine I've attended have been nine of the best gigs of my life. :D

I would have but I've got tickets for Rancid. They're only doing London on 14th and 15th so it was miss Reading or miss Earthbound '08. And I don't like Reading. It is a silly place. ;D

Will I be OK to grab another couple of place for this? - Neil who you met at the Bull & Gate has two more friends who would like to attend.

Don't know their food preferences yet, but if it's OK I'll find out

Cheers

When both Fred and Jock will be at the event, it would be two more good reasons for me: two long-time TUTS I haven't met so far!  :)
I will be preparing letters for some ever-urgent, hurrying customers so they'll know I'm not available in mid-November. I'll be in touch, fleagle, as soon as I know more details...

It's now looking that the Fleagles EARTHBOUND is going to be the first time since 2004 that we are having just one EARTHBOUND gig. It serves us right for having three EARTHBOUND gigs last year. ;D

I've been chatting to Fleags about the gig and whether we were going to have a TUTS songs wishlist this year. Fleags has had a great idea just to make the gig even more exciting. He's asked TV to make up his own Surprise! Surprise! Set List.  :o :o :D :D :D

...Which will be a nice surprise.   :D

TV started this trend with Drowning On Dry Land at the third EARTHBOUND gig (the first one at the Elland brewery). He introduced this rare old demo (a song not actually on our vast 2004 TUTS wishlist) with the words "so now I choose."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ez52cUvLRI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ez52cUvLRI)

Hopefully TV will take the opportunity to play some of the rare songs he re-learnt for my Lean Towards Starlight Show (my 50th birtrhday gig).

I'd love to hear the shows title track without all those noisy Marshallites hanging around like chatty bar flies and drowning out part of the wonderful sound.

...What did they think it was a bloody birthday party???!!! ;D ;D ;D

Somehow despite the distractions TV (and Sam) both kept Carrying On. 8)

At last we have drafted the details of the night under Southbound Earthbound 2008, If we haven't covered everything and you have any questions just PM Fleagle or myself  :)

I haven't figured out how to add a map yet but will when I do  :)

I didn't want to clutter up the basic info with too much stuff so just a couple more bits of info  :)

The £5 charge is to cover food and expenses as this is not a profit making gig 8)

Any Juniors (under 18) are free, just because you are over 30 but still feel 16 does not count  :P

I believe Fleagle has already mentioned that for a change we will let TV choose the songs instead of a 'TUTS' wish list.  W thought we might ask DJ Rockula very nicely if we could have a  song wish list instead  8)

I'm sure there will be a few more 'oh yes I forgot to metnion' moments  ???

MRs Fleagle  ::)

I will consider requests...but only from those TUTS who will actually be at the event. If I have it (and it's not the bleedin' birdy song which luckily is NOT in my CD collection) I'll bring it. I may start another thread for that purpose. And I won't read your list if it's got 100 songs on it. ;D

Please be aware that my collection runs to rock, punk, powerpop, reggae, ska.....oh anything with a bit of ROOTS, ROCK AND REBEL.

Also, be aware that I will NOT be playing TV Smith songs unless HE requests them.
That's why the man himself is there....to give us the proper LIVE versions.

Shot By Both Sides - Magazine (Requested by Fleagles)
The News - Carbon~Silicon (Requested by TJ)
Coma Girl & Redemption Song - Joe Strummer (Requested by TJ AND....requested by TJ. He's a greedy bugger).

That's the only requests so far?

And none of TV's recordings past or present will be on the playlist. Associated artists like Doctors Of Madness, Die Toten Hosen, etc may be....

...and then we went to Croydon."

Hey Mr DJ, we've just got to hear Saturday Gigs by the soon to be reformed rock legends Mott The Hoople at our Saturday gig in Wallington, Croydon.

Will have to think on this one ???

The things is we wouldn't want to deprive anyone the chance of seeing TV if this was a nice easy gig for them to get to, but we do need to have a good idea of numbers, maybe something on the front page along the lines of 'the annual fan gig contact Fleagles for an invite' might work :-\

Heres and amazing thing  :o

One Sunday not long after we had arranged this gig, and we were listening to bands and getting very drunk in the Walkabout in Croydon, we happened to also play several games of drunken table football.  It was soooo much fun (as things are when your drunk) that I said to Fleagle wouldn't it be great if we could get Stuart to get in a table for the Earthbound gig  ;D

I went to see the room at the pub for the first time today and you'll never believe it but low and behold on the way down to the room they have a table football game  ;D

I truely have my perfect evening now  8)

Mrs Fleagle  ::)

P.S Do you think we should have a seperate thread for the record list  ???

I will take ALL your requests....but I will only play one or two (maybe three) from each person's choices so you won't know which of the requests you've made are being played. ;D
This is unless, of course, there's only 5 of us going and then you can have more requests. :(

I'd like requests from all the people who are going and that way half of what I play will be requests. Any more than 50% requests and I don't get to choose what I introduce you to/suprise you with and you might as well bung on a CD. ;)

Have you decided what to do about advertising the gig to local fans on the gig list on the website Fleagles? If you make it clear that they must contact you to gain an invite before the gig I don't think you'll have any problems. This is how we did it at Elland. It would be a shame if a TV Smith fan living in Wallington, Croydon or Carshallton didn't get to find out about it.

Up to you guys, though, it's just a thought. :D

O.k.
I've got an hour of requests and an hour of my picks. Don't know how long I'm supposed to spin music for but....

I'm sure there's room for a few more requests from those who haven't contributed ideas yet and will be in attendence.

I've only had one request from Fleags and none yet from his good lady.

Anyone else here coming to Earthbound want a request played?

NOT YOU TJ! You've had your two, erm three, erm FOUR. ;D

Here's a little TUTsie from Germany, thinking about flying in for the weekend. I know, I said I cancelled.  :-[
I won't be able to stay for the Damned gig the following week, but so f***in what... Then maybe I could stay until the 17th, buy the Damned CD (should be out that day) and fly home... No promises, but I'll give the flight plan a look...

So...

I'd better start thinking about booking travel, etc.

With this in mind, what time are we meeting up? Are we meeting at the venue, or is something else planned beforehand?

What about the Sunday? Will there be a service of thanksgiving in the New Church?

So many possibilities...

anybody coming down Saturday is welcome to hang out at the fleagles during the day - we are 100 yards from the b and b and less than a mile from the gig - I may have to pop in and out to the venue in the latter part of the day - but happy to host a pre earthbound coffee and bscuits session  ;D

Funny you should mention that, but I have just recalled that they have some sort of Sunday service in the Girl Guide Hall next to the Hotel and last time I saw the banner up it said the services were run by Pastor Olu and Stella, but I think maybe their not refering to the drink  >:(

Mrs Fleagle is off work for a fortnight so we can be hosts for as long as anyone wants, not only can we do coffee and biscuits but I have just got a cup cake recipe book, you know the posh cakes that they charge a fortune for but cost pennies to make, I'll see what I can do, coffee and cup cakes sounds a bit more up market don't you think  8)

I'm still not sure  ???
Dj

I'm still thinking  :-\

Chase The Devil - Max Romeo is one  ;D

Then I'm not sure whether to go for Cock Sparrer or/and Penetration (whoops seems to be a theme there  :-[) and if so what tracks, sort of torn between Riot Squad and Argy Bargy and Don't Dictate and Lovers of Outrage  ???

But of course as is a womans perogative I may change my mind completely  ;D

Oh yes for 'Twig juice lovers' (said in a West Country accent for effect) we should have 2 different Twig Juices on tap  8)

Alas no wish list for Twig juice but it's looking like (but not definate) Timothy Taylors Landlord and possibly something from the Dark Star Brewery  8)

Fingers crossed Uli you can make, but if you do come -NO DRINKING CONTESTS  ;)

What, drinking contests, me? Can't remember, did I win?  :P
At least I do remember I didn't need to be carried out of the pub...
I was going to say: remind me NOT to drink in the afternoon ("kein Bier vor vier" as we say in Germany: no beer before 4pm...) and NO straws...  :-[

I'm already looking forward to the face of the bar man when I walk into an English pub and say "a pint of twig juice please".  ;D

To Mr. Fleagles 'better' half..
Chase The Devil - Max Romeo is one (I'll have that)....Cock Sparrer (No problem)...Penetration (Lovers Of Outrage is one of all time my faves too)...Riot Squad (Got some of that)....Argy Bargy (I have NONE but that is an oversite that CAN be rectified).
As to the ''womans perogative to '' change my mind completely'' I think that's just an excuse 'cause women can't make a decision. ;D

'Twig Juice' sounds o.k.

But 'NO DRINKING CONTESTS' is a fail. ;D

Very happy to see all of you again.

I read all the things about the accomodation possibilites. I am still not sure to book a hotel in London or that one in Wallington.
From what time on it will be a problem to come back to central london in the night?

Yes you can get back to Central london all night from Wallington it would involve a bus or taxi to East Croydon Station and then a train  :)
The rooms at Wallington are £60 per room per night including breakfast, so they would probably not be as expensive as Central London but it depends how long you are staying and which airport you are flying into  :D

Just P.M Fleagle or myself for any travel advice  ;D

Hopefully this will be comparatively temporary, and I'll get along to another gig soon.

I'm sure Fleagle can make room for anyone who writes such a great Adverts review.

Welcome to the TUTS Phil.  ;D

Quote
It was my first 'proper' gig and cost the princely sum of £1.30 - it should have been £1.50 but my brother was studying at Thames Polytechnic and got a 20p discount! I remember it seeming incredibly loud and I remember being very unimpressed with the support band who spent most of the time gobbing at various sections of the audience who, of course, proceeded to gob back. I think TV's first comment to the audience was "you don't have to spit, we know you're there". Gaye didn't seem particularly interested, she just stood towards the back of the stage with her Flying V bass, although she came forward to do the "Bombsite boy" backing vocal bit on that song. TV did the slow part at the beginning of Bombsite Boy sitting cross legged on the stage. Howard was fairly animated but I don't think I even caught sight of the drummer - I presume that was Rod Latter although such was my ignorance I didn't even realise Laurie Driver was no longer in the band! The sound must have been pretty good as all the songs that I knew were recognisable, which is more than can be said for when I saw the Ramones a few years later... Looking at the various set lists I'd imagine that the set must have been pretty similar to that from Hamburg Markthalle as the first Red Sea song played was Drowning Men and that was about fourth or fifth in the set...I didn't have a copy of the One Chord Wonders single so I wouldn't have recognised Quickstep, though TV also introduced another song with the words "Obscure b-side time", though I guess that could've been New Day Dawning or We Who Wait. One Chord Wonders and Great British Mistake were the encore and there was a nifty little light show on the drums at the start of Gilmore...not exactly of Pink Floyd proportions but I think the rest of the stage was dark apart from the drum kit which lit up with various different colour lights!

Thirty years on I'm surprised I can remember as much but as my introduction to a real live punk rock gig (unfortunately I'd missed Adam and the Ants when they played the local town hall the previous year!) it made an impression. My second gig was a few weeks later when Penetration/Gang of Four/The Pack played the same venue and I've just seen that the Penetration set from that night has been officialy released in the last few months...

In another amazing coincidence I've also noticed the messages about Earthbound 08.....I live in the same road as the Wallington Windmill!!!! This may be the wrong place to ask but is it a 'turn up on the night' or tickets in advance (or sold out)....?

Just a little bit of insider information for those that shun the 'Twig Juice'  and are staying in the Dukes Head, the lager is very expensive in there  :o

We were in the Dukes Head the other day and someone bought a pint of Fosters and it cost £3.45!!!!!!!!

If you arrive early and don't fancy tea and biscuits at the Fleagles there are numerous more reasonably priced pubs down Carshalton High St -that's out the front of the Dukes Head and turn left  ;D

Bloody Hell!!! £3-45 a pint, us Northern Flat cappers think £2-70 is expensive, after 4 years of nothing but lager drinking I may revert to the twig juice.

As advised by Fleagle the Twig juice is:

Hop Back Festival Ale

And

Hogs Back TEA

(I think I have my Hogs and Hops the right way round)  ;D

We had hoped for something from the Dark Star Brewery but alas no, you'll have to go to Shoreham for that I'm afraid  :-\

Nothing like a TEA ;)

Mrs Fleagle  ::)

P.S Expensive lager is a peculiarity of Youngs pubs all the other pubs are normal prices or bargain offers if your lucky (The Windmill is not a Youngs pub, just the Hotel)  ;D

Some of us won't need name badges as we'll know who a Fred is by his photo's in the TUTS Gallery and Who are the TUTS themes in the World of TUTS section. ;) :-*

TV is easy... He's the one who looks like the photo of the guy on the EARTHBOUND 08 t-shirt... You know the one with the big willy guitar. :o

...That just leaves the songs.

"I know I'm EARTHBOUND."

My special wish to help me see clearly are a new pair of contact lenses, Land of Plently and Lean Towards the Light.

Hurrah back in the land of the living  :-[

Yes Fred, all hell to the twig juice  :P

And all credit to those that organise gigs on a regular basis and Fleagle, he did all the running around, I was just the ideas person, well more the gentle reminder person, have you remembered etc...  :)

At last TV Smith playing locally and an Earthbound, a pig in shit night for the Fleagles and great that so many could make it and share such an epic night for us, thank you so much 8)

Set list mmm... I think we will have to wait for TV for that, there were some songs I didn't know, but for sure I know there was Earthbound, 200 Blows (how cool was that),  I think I recall High Society, Looking Down on London,  Unwelcome Guest, Woodpecker for definate and some old favourites towards the end Backstage Bob, On your Video? ,Thin Green Line  Tomahawk Cruise etc....

I think the recall part of my brain was flood damaged by Twig Juice. so that's the best I can do :'(

This is part of the message I received from John who was going to video the gig...

Quote
BUGGER!!
i was just looking on the net to hire a car and thought i better check address for show etc.....and......       i dont know why but i thought it was on the 22nd IVE MISSED IT!!!!!

i cant believe it!!!!!! was looking forward to making the first HD blueray TVSmith video  arrrggggggg....why the hell  did i have the 22nd in my head??

i shall now go to the corner of the room and hang my head in shame.....

John (The Camera)

Really sorry that I didn't do a double check with John so Jock, Simse, Uli, Peter, Rancid, Second Class, Gabumon and all the other TUTS that couldn't make it could have seen the gig. Hopefully others filled John;'s role. Great to see the talking introduction to the song, always a favourite bit for me. Thank you so much for recording EARTHBOUND Mousa. :D

You were all there in spirit TUTS.

I can recall a lot of the songs in the set list. I my opinion the rarist four were the two new songs from the next album (the first one was was incredible), Concrete Skyline and Shipwreked On the Rocks of Love...

...A song that wasn't even sung by TV Smith when it was first released as a demo. Personally I was totally delighted with all the rare 80's demo's that TV played. If you were to ask me what the most played recordings are from my entire life I would say it's these demo's (well I mean I don't really have them I just let the songs play over and over in my mind.) So I was as happy as a sand boy on a beach.

I had a very strange night yesterday (which kicked off with a fire drama in the kitchen) and the thing that kept me going and pulled me through (whilst I scrubbed the burnt pan) was listening to TV Smith playing live at my 50th party. Thank you for the CD's Klaus.

I couldn't shake this feeling of how incredibly blessed we are to have TV Smith in our lives... Our President I know shares this view.

I am very serious about this.

We are deeply blessed.

Where else on the net would a new to the forum fan just go out and organise t-shirts like the wonderfully kind EKTAFF did? I'm wearing mine now with immense pride.

My suspicion is that The Fleagles didn't run the wish song list because they didn't want TV to be put under any pressure to learn new and old rare songs for the gig. Of course the total perfectionist that is TV Smith went the other way and put so much effort into creating a set list for all the TUTS. For instance I got the 80's demo's, Klaus loved the two new songs and a TV played a vast array of songs like 200 Blows, Lion and The Lamb and Thin Green line chosen for the ever caring and fantastic gig organisers, The Fleagles. This was most likely the rarist set list TV has ever played.

All TV was really botheresd about was giving every TUT what they wanted.

This was TV's text in reply to my thank you text...
Quote
"Was a pleasure to play for true friends and supporters, as always. Hope everyone got what they wanted."

TV Smith 16.11.08

Thank you TV. You keep me inspired and carrying on. For me that's a true hero. 8)

Yes, this post is over the top, but at least it's from the real me, not me trying to be someone I'm not. OIt's truly how I feel. ;)

Greetings one & all.

So nice to put names to avitars.. spooky happening for me was that Mrs EKTAFF knew and formerly worked with Mrs Fleags!!  How wierd is that.

I have some stills, anyone know how I can get them from my computer on to the board... Technology aint my bag!!

My only gripe was people talking during the music... especially the lot by the food, backs to TV (surely a hanging offence!).  Then, then, then...  (you can get the drift of my annoyance) some guy sits on our table and uses his mobile, shouting into it saying that its "noisy in the pub"......  He moved after the "glare" from Mrs EKTAFF  (makes a grown man cry!!!)

Ok then Earthbound 09....  venue? date?

What were the two new songs called Klaus? That first one was phenominal. :D

TV also played rare songs like the awesome Concrete Skyline, Cheap's 200 Blows and Buried By The Machine (Cheaps finest live at last!  :D :D :D), plus Unwelcome Guest (another first for the TUTS :D), Looking Down On London and See Europe by those Great Explorers. :D

EARTHBOUND, People, Shipwrecked, Machine, Light, Skyline, Blows, Buy, Plenty, Dress, Name, The First New Song where some of my very, very favourites.

Mrs EKTAFF knew and formerly worked with Mrs Fleags!!  How wierd is that?

EKTAFF

Just a little TUTS magic EKTAFF. ;) You get used to it around TUTSville. ;)

Quote
My only gripe was people talking during the music... especially the lot by the food, backs to TV (surely a hanging offence!).  Then, then, then...  (you can get the drift of my annoyance) some guy sits on our table and uses his mobile, shouting into it saying that its "noisy in the pub"......  He moved after the "glare" from Mrs EKTAFF  (makes a grown man cry!!!)

EKTAFF

Didn't notice this at all, EKTAFF. Guess that's why we TUTS stand together off front. ...Err and near to those wonderful handpumps. :-*

Good job you weren't at my birthday gig, EKTAFF, as those talking at the bar even wound up TV a little. ;)

You are right it is a hanging offense, the ghost of southport will be haunting them for a month. ...Lack of respect to TV is a capital offense around here.

Sorry we didn't get chance to really chat EKTAFF. I did get a great photo of you in your t-shirt (I'm the same as you on technology). Good to see you both at breakfast too. And great to have breakfast with Xa Rockula too.

So what's your story EKTAFF?

The t-shirts were so appreciated. In the centre in the green jacket is Fred wearning last years EARTHBOUND 'Fire In The Darkness' C5 Tribute t-shirt...

He knew that C5 and Fred had missed a few EARTHBOUND's so he thought they'd come back together. :D

TV continued the theme by playing On Your Video and Backstage Bob. The heart and soul forever beats on. :D

That's also me wearing the officail EARTHBOUND 08 t-shirt. Shame it's at an angle. By the way I'm not feeling Fred up. That's Claret's hand. I shall say no more. :-*

Quote
Ok then Earthbound 09....  venue? date?

EKTAFF

Tj's back up for the English EARTHBOUND 09 probably in Elland Brewery. ...Unless The Fleagles want another turn.

EARTHBOUND 2009 in Germany is going to be something completely different. I can say no more at the moment or I will be in heap big trouble.

Oops, it wasn't 'Make Your Escape', it was 'Downbeat' when the MD ran out of space.
So just 1 and a half songs are missing.
Good news, eh?

Do I watch too much Monty Python?

No such thing as too much TV or MP!

42 songs!

And what songs they were!!!

It would have been a "mere" 41 if Fleagle hadn't made his brilliant, and somewhat moving, request for NIMN!

Cheers Fleags!

Cheers TUTS!

Cheers Teev!

What a Great night it was, the only downside is that it was all over all to quickly!!!
Many thanks to The Fleagles for the superb organising-you could tell within seconds of walking into the function room just how much work had gone into it.
Thanks to TV Smith for 2x great sets (I`m getting to know some of the 80`s demos and unreleased stuff quite well now),.
Had a great pre-gig drink or two with Klaus, TJ, Fred and Smit- guys I am proud to now call my friends. thanks For welcoming me in lads!!
Nice to see Alan again and to meet EKTAFF-great work with the T-shirt mate thanks. Great Records DJ-thanks .
The Icing on the cake was that I got March of The Giants at Reading and with some greedy pestering and hinting got it at Earthbound as well. Can`t wait till the next one.

Hello. I'm awake.

Earthbound = Perfect.

TV is a SOUL singer.

My knees and right hip went wonky on Sunday and I've been in bed since. But all definitely worth it.

Must, however, agree that chatting loudly whilst ANY artist is playing and standing with your back to the stage is, too say the least, RUDE.
I felt guilty leaving the room to go to the toilet during songs but discussing bloody football results (or rugby)...that got right on my tits.

I'm up for Earthbound '09, whether as DJ or not, England or Germany, whenever it is, wherever it is. ;D

Saturday Gigs anyone?

Hey DJ, I'd so love a copy of Joe and Johnny singing Bob. That was pure class.

Not bad that you can walk in an EARTHBOUND gig and The Doctors Of Madness are WAITING!.  8)

It looked like TV was just about to say something really funny when he pointed at the end. I really enjoy it when we catch TV's inter song banter. :D
