Oh dear indeed! Everyone has known for ages Lemmy collects this sort of stuff...
Instead of fighting the real Neo-Nazis people are gonna do stupid things like sueing Lemmy etc.  >:(
Typical Germany I guess. Yawn.  ::)

It's allways going to be a dodgy subject this one ... where do we draw the line ?
Lemmy is a collector of nazi uniforms and stuff, but he isnt a nazi .. im not sure we should
burn every item related to nazism , we need to keep certain collections for historical
reasons , and Lemmy certainly has a good collection .

I aggreed with that bloke out Roxy music when he said he thought the German army was
the best dressed army in the world ...they were ... but it doesnt make him a nazi or me for
saying they were well dressed...

its a subject we will allways have arguments over .. sadly we cant just scrub out the past
and there will be people like Lemmy who has this fasination for nazi memorabillia .

it doesnt mean hes a Nazi .

we have a shop in our town who stocks all sorts of Nazi stuff ..from arm bands to hats and helmets
daggers etc ...  most of it is fake may i add !  the people buying this stuff is a cross mix.. BUT theres
this little old lady who buys all sorts from this shop ... i was buying a pair of socks one day and she had just been buying a swastika armband !      this lady has a wierd fetish ,and it is the German uniform that rocks her boat , has done for many years !

shes NO nazi tho ...   just slightly crazy  lol   i like her .

i think lemmy is just one of those people who likes the look of the uniforms and the brilliant craftmanship
in the medals and daggers and owning the original stuff must cost a lot of dosh these days .

the SS uniform looks amazing ...

BUT before anyone jumps on me ...im NO nazi either ...   sadly the past cant be changed , but you have to admitt the Germans looked the part .

I can't even see a beginning discussion... Everyone seems to agree Lemmy is no nazi. Yet he is in danger of being sued for wearing some sort of uniform or symbol (some of these are illegal in Germany, yet legal in UK/US etc.). Like I said before, instead of fighting real Nazis, they do stupid bureacratic things like these...  :(

I know what you mean, Uli. You're right: it is very important to fight real nazis...
And my opinion is not that people like Lemmy are nazis.

But: wearing those things - and I don't mind if they are legal in other countrys - is very stupid.
After 1933-1945 some things has lost it innocence. To be honest: as I don't really understand people who like to wear uniforms (because I don't like uniforms in any way) there is no fun with all these nazi-symbols or uniforms.
You might know these philosophers from frankfurt - horkheimer and adorno: they wrote an excellent book after world war II: "Dialektik der Aufklärung". It is a important book because they discribe what changed after Auschwitz. On this background it is not possible to wear a nazi uniform without making a laugh on all the victims of the nazis. this is my point.
So for me Lemmy is very, very stupid and he should begin to use his brain!

I aggree - lemmy shouldnt have wore the nazi cap  - in GERMANY of all places ! that was bloody stupid.

its one thing collecting  stuff but wearing it to interviews is another .

I know BIFF ( sick on the bus ) got beat up a few years ago for wearing an SS uniform to a fancy dress party , i was told by a mate that he'd got hassle in the streets of London .

where do we draw the line ?     i dont think for one minute Biff was pretending to be a nazi or was taking the piss out of the millions of people killed by the nazis , but an obvious fancy dress uniform shouldnt be a problem .

it show the growing hatred for that period in time ....  BUT there are still nazis on the go , getting more powerfull everyday ..  they should be targeted not some bloke in fancy dress.

Lemmy was 100% wrong tho when he wore a nazi cap to an interview ...he mustve been pist  ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Lemmy didn't think much about it. He's done this stuff for years... It's only now some journos make a "scandal" out of it...  :-\
However, the photo might have been taken elsewhere - it says: "The photograph was taken to promote Motörhead's performance at the July 5 Wacken Rocks Seaside concert in Aurich, Germany." Thus, the photo to promote it might have been shot weeks/months before in the US or somewhere else.
There's just no logic in laws when you can buy/wear this kinda stuff in the UK/USA and on, while in Germany it's illegal. That's ridiculous, especially when it comes to a "global business" like the music biz. (Of course, both the photographer and Lemmy should've used their brains as it was a promo for a German gig.)

But it has been known to me that Lemmy has collected this sort of uniforms and medals for ages.
He says himself: "I don't only collect Nazi stuff, I collect objects from all the Axis countries," he said. "Also from countries who aren't even mentioned anymore as former parts of the Axis. Like Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Hungary."
So with all these different uniforms I'm not surprised he doesn't care or even know what he's wearing for a bloody photo shoot. I mean, anyone who's read a few interviews, knows that Lemmy has simple tastes. He likes his uniforms, simple heavy röck'n'röll and his whisky cola. That's Lemmy and he is an original.

I don't really understand people who like to wear uniforms (because I don't like uniforms in any way) there is no fun with all these nazi-symbols or uniforms.

I never liked this as well. However I can respect Lemmy's "hobby". He's not stupid, he's just being Lemmy...  ::)

Please note Lemmy is NOT wearing any caps/helmets/uniforms during this interview!  ;)

The way I see it is that everybody knows what the nazi's did and what they stand for, therefore if you choose to wear nazi paraphanelia then you are a nazi. It's that simple!

It's not that simple. I thought we'd already come to the conclusion that Lemmy isn't?  ::)

I almost agree. However, as the Nazi uniforms were designed by Hugo Boss does that mean anyone wearing the perfume/aftershave is planning world domination. I ponder.

The way I see it if I go out wearing a TV Smith t-shirt it is because I want people to know that I am a fan, if I go out wearing a CND badge it is because I want to advertise the fact that I am against nuclear arms. Likewise if anyone sports nazi attire it sends out the same message- I am a nazi. Otherwise why wear it?
I know Lemmy collects war memoribilia and there is nothing wrong with that, but out of all his collection he chose to wear a nazi cap. That sends a message to me and most probably to other nazi's as well.
Further more, you can decide if you want that Lemmy is not a nazi, but I will make my own mind up. This may be an old post but it's the first time I have seen it.

Fair point Nick - personally I don't see Lemmy as a Nazi, but others can easily make the association. Reminds me of the impact that Siouxsie & Sid had wearing swastikas all those years ago......

Personally I wouldn't be seen wearing such stuff.

To show off his great collection?  ::)
Maybe you shouldn't think that everyone on the planet acts like you would? (Or as Tj used to say "never assume".)

Anyway, if you read the interviews with Lemmy (or people who worked with him, went out with him etc), you will be able to get your own picture and make up your mind.

I myself don't think Sid or Siouxsie or anyone of those early "punks" who wore swastikas (for provocation, I guess) were ever Nazis (which according to your "theory" they would've been).

Btw, was Lemmy ever sued for wearing that hat or not?  ???

Edit: as far as I know he wasn't seen wearing it all that often, now that would be different...  ::)

I do not think Lemmy is actually a nazi. But I do think that wearing any "gang colours" so to speak will always affiliate you with that group in the eyes of others.  :)

Metal night next Friday including the Lemmy Movie and "Do Not Panic", the rather excellent Hawkwind documentary:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/programmes/schedules/2011/07/22

Lemmy: The Movie

This two hour film celebrates the life and rock 'n' roll philosophy of Motorhead frontman and bassist Lemmy.

Lemmy became the bass player in Hawkwind and sang their biggest hit Silver Machine before forming his own hard rockin' metal trio Motorhead in the mid-70s, blending punk and primal rock n roll into a foot to the floor, hard driving rock n roll aesthetic which resulted in monster hits like Ace of Spades and the live album, No Sleep Til Hammersmith in the early 80s and to which he has remained constantly steadfast.

Still touring, still enjoying the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, still inspired by Little Richard and The Beatles, Lemmy remains the ultimate unredeemed and unrepentant rock 'n' roll star. Joining Lemmy and members of Motorhead to celebrate his life and times are Hawkwind's Dave Brock, Metallica's James Hetfield, Dave Grohl, Alice Cooper, Peter Hook and Jarvis Cocker.

Hawkwind - Do Not Panic

The inside story of Hawkwind, one of Britain's wildest acid rock bands. Emerging from the Ladbroke Grove underground at the end of the 60s, the band trailed radicalism and counter-culture in their wake, and have been a direct influence on punk, metal, dance and rave. Includes interviews with some of the band's enduring legends, including bassist Lemmy, writer Michael Moorcock, founder members Terry Ollis, Nik Turner and Mick Slattery, and former managers Doug Smith and Jeff Dexter.

Just watched the Lemmy film.

It was ok I suppose. Never been a Motorhead fan and never will be, even though I don't dislike the music. Lemmy tells great stories, but I've always found his penchant for Nazi paraphernalia more than a little disturbing.

Won't be watching the Hawkwind documentary as I've seen it before.

There's a finite limit to how often I can stomach seeing Nick Kent in a beanie hat and a vest...

I like a little Motorhead, but what I really love is the Lemmy / Simon King period of Hawkwind - what a powerful rhythm section. If you've ever heard "Space Ritual" you can easily see why they were such a huge influence on so many punk bands. Lemmy still plays a lot of bass like he was playing rhythm guitar.

Have to agree with you about Nick Kent though - what was he wearing/thinking?

My favourite Hawkwind albums are the ones they made with Robert Calvert. I think he was a great poet & showman & is sadly missed. The Space Ritual / Urban Guerilla period & Astounding Sounds, Quark, PXR5 & Hawlkords albums are the best in my opinion.
Hall of the Mountain Grill & Warrior on the Edge of Time are also very good. The violin of Simon House add a special feel to the above albums.

Yes a great album. Technically a solo album but I think most of Hawkwind played some part in it.

Some of the between track dialogue is quite funny I think. The songs Right Stuff & Ejection went on to become Hawkwind live faves, even after Calvert had left the band. Well, I say left the band, but the band actually left him. Kris Taits book This is Hawkwind-Do Not Panic describes how they frantically drove away from their hotel with Calvert chasing after them. Heh heh he was a character

Lemmy will be 70 on Dec 24th!

Quote
Lemmy has dealt with some serious health issues recently, forcing the indulgent rock legend to scale back on alcohol and kick his cigarette habit. Though Lemmy has made some positive steps forward, he has been struggling with poor health in recent months, leading to MOTÖRHEAD's touring schedule being disrupted.

But the rock icon claims that he is doing just fine and was people to stop asking about his health.

He told Classic Rock: "I'm sick of the fucking, 'Are you going to die?' line of questioning. It's getting really old, that question. I’m alright. I'm going out there and doing my best.

"I have good days and bad days but mostly I've been doing alright. The last tour of the States was very good."

Lemmy, who will be 70 years old this month, told Classic Rock he has no intention of retiring.
He said: "It's when you get to 60 when everything starts to go pear-shaped. Everyone thinks that becoming an older guy is easy, but you never consider it fully. It comes as quite a shock. But the thing is, I don't want to give in to it."

"I don't do regrets," he said. "Regrets are pointless. It's too late for regrets. You've already done it, haven't you? You've lived your life. No point wishing you could change it.

"There are a couple of things I might have done differently, but nothing major; nothing that would have made that much of a difference.

"I'm pretty happy with the way things have turned out. I like to think I've brought a lot of joy to a lot of people all over the world. I'm true to myself and I'm straight with people."

Thousands call for new element to be named after Lemmy:

The heaviest of heavy metals - Lemmium? Except that Lemmy always said that Motorhead weren't a heavy metal band and that he felt that he had more in common with the punks!

Anyway, I'm sure it would have made him laugh:

I thought that was rather a nice tribute.

He's done it before of course:

Not so sure about this petition though:

I see that the other one is now over 111,000 signatures!

Are you seriously trying to tell me that any record company would cash in on a posthumous release by branding the content "new"?

Shame on you Sir!

I'm still waiting for the 'collaboration' album with the unreleased tracks Lemmy did in the studio with The Damned.

Now that would be "new"!

Old "new", but hopefully good new.

Well dear old Lem might not have had a new "Heavy Metal" element named after him, but he has got a Jurassic crocodile:

Listen to Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister's final solo recording, "We Are the Ones," a collaboration with guitarist Chris Declercq

Quote
Declercq met Kilmister in 2005 after he moved from his native Switzerland to Hollywood and approached the Motörhead singer at the Sunset Strip's Rainbow Bar and Grill. He gave him a copy of a demo CD and the two musicians eventually worked together on "We Are the Ones," which features Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, Guns N' Roses) on drums and co-producer Martin Guigui on synth. They began tracking it with co-producer Cameron Webb in 2014 at Paramount Studios and Kilmister recorded the bass part in March 2015; they did a final mix this past January.
