It's a support gig for The Undertones, so I guess there'll be more people! (Although I don't know how famous they are in Belgium.)

Once again in Kokkola, Finland; energetic and intense though the crowd was small! We were 3 years older but TV wasn't.

I was happy to notice how many kids were buying cd's and books afterwards. Maybe there is future after all when we old farts are gone.

Next time touring Finland, take the train to St. Petersburg to conquer Russia. They might even have vegetarian menu nowadays.. 8)

Just been informed that TV is booked to play at The Verge in Hyde, Cheshire on 14th May this year. I saw him there with TJ last year and it is a great little venue and a really good turnout on the night to see possibly the best TV solo gig I`ve seen, he went down a storm and the promoter told me he was very keen to get TV back as soon as poss- so he`s managed it. I hope as many TUTs as poss can get to this one as it`s one of those great smaller intimate gig venue`s that are all too often closing down these days.

Learning English in London.  ;)

Zudem die Advertssongs: ''New Church'',''No Time To Be 21'', ''Gary Gilmore's Eyes'', ''Bored Teenagers'' und die Titel:

''Only One Flavour'', ''Expensive Being Poor'', ''Immortal Rich'', ''In The Arms Of My Enemy'', als Zugabe ''Generation Y''.

Grüßle
Ilona

Anyone going to the 100 Club gig Saturday week?

Ain't booked a ticket but might do. I reckon being a Saturday night, there's half a chance of it being a bit busier than normal. I like the 100 Club as a venue but it suffers from being half empty most of the time. The sound clatters around like a kid's marble left in a tumble drier. Definitely going though.

Anyone else?

Manager (Barnet) is ok but views football colours (exc. Chelski) suspiciously. Bar small but service fairly brisk. Bar staff good. Beers standard John Smiths/1664/Strongbow combo. Pinball machine excellent. Can be costly to get into just for a pint if a band are playing as you'll probably get charged anywhere between £5-£10.

May well hit Bradley's Spanish Bar before gig if weather ok.

On edit:

Ignore most of what I just wrote. I saw '16th' and didn't realise you were talking about the June 16th 12 Bar Club gig. I hadn't even realised TV was playing there.

Sorry Nick.

At Undertones on Sat but 10.00pm Curfew so may get across for Sex Pistols Experience (Not to be missed) and could get a bit of Teev.

If any of you seen the Sex Pistols Experience  you will know what I am on about. You will seriosly be blown away on all accounts.

apart from the name they are faultless.  Sound, attitude, set list all absolutely spot on!!

It's a bit close to our holiday up in Scotland but I reckon she'll be only too glad to get rid of me, seeing as she won't be able to avoid me for at least a week while we're away. Actually, she quite likes the 12 Bar as a venue and might even come along with me.

A truncated set from TV & Leigh last night due to the filming requirements of The Sex Pistols Experience so, instead of coming on at 9, they had to take the 'graveyard' slot of 11pm - by which time, most people have to go to catch last trains.

Met Fleags and Klaus outside Bradleys Spanish Bar for a brief 'hello' before they scarpered off to another pub, leaving me, Tom Phobic and the Blessed Sandra Wallace-Phobic to chat to Gaye and her friend (whose name I didn't catch). After a couple of pints, TV and Leigh turned up with the wonderful news that they'd been shifted to last act.

Undaunted, we wandered off up Oxford Street to the 100 Club where we caught the Heartbreakers cover band doing the last couple of numbers from their set. Ok, but needed the guitar turned UP! big time. If Thunders was anything, he was bloody loud and this was far from that.

After that - Pistols time.

Johnny Thunders from the previous band had suddenly (and unconvincingly) metamorphosised into Jones, with the same guitar problems. Dammit man, turn the bloody thing UP!!  >:(

Rotten was pretty good, Sid was standard bass, no chin and two grimaces whilst Cook, a very good drummer, bore more than a passing resemblance to Republic of Ireland and Fulham winger Damian Duff. So this is what he does at night!

Come 11pm, come TV & Leigh:

21
Tomahawk
Man Down
True Believers
Lord's Prayer
Lion & Lamb
Expensive
Headhunters
(missed next song taking a leak - sorry, too much info  ::) )
Coming In To Land
Gary
Bored
One Chord Wonders

Finished exactly at midnight - no encores possible

Got the chance to look at Leigh a bit more close-up than before. Man, he's good! :)

Tom and Sandra, who'd never seen Leigh before, were mighty impressed. And why shouldn't they have been.

Anyway, finished the night off with late drinkies at The 12 Bar and got home about 3am.

Now, I'm going to play the contents of the little cd-shaped manilla envelope that TV gave me... ;)

I thought one of the main things about punk was that it would do away with 'covers' bands.

And yet, here we are, 30-odd years later, still stuck in the mire.

It's a nice day outside and yet, I'm still a grumpy old git!  ::)

I spoke to Ray at The Bitter End venue in Romford yesterday re; when are they gonna invite T.V. to do a gig in the town of his birth.

Apparently, Ray spoke to T.V. about playing there during the Valentines tour but because of the London venue having one of those things where an artist has to agree not to play within a certain time/distance of thier gig it couldn't happen.

But Ray says he intends to ask T.V. again in 'the near future'.

This venue, run by Ray and Andrea who used to run The Railway (Ipswich) is VERY punk friendly. My next visits there will include U.K. Subs, Red Flag 77 and The Members.
Recent gigs have included Vice Squad, The Vibrators, East Town Pirates, The Queers, Discharge, Danger's Close, Anti-Nowhere league...
They are always interested in new bands (Fleags: Mad Mush, etc.?).

So, when it happens I expect to see some of you guys down there o.k. ;D

Can`t go Joe, setting off for hol at 4 following morning otherwise i would be there but I saw TV at this venue in Reading in 2008 (same Big Untidy night). the venue, if you haven`t been is an old Sunday school building with small bar in the back, it was a great night, well attended and the other acts were very good too, hope you enjoy the gig.

Maybe an X-Ray Spex song? I can only guess he played it with The Weightlifters, support on that tour. See flyer here:

You're welcome. Are you going to the 12 Bar gig?

Yeah, provided I can get a pass-out from Mrs. Slaughterboy.

It's a bit close to our holiday up in Scotland but I reckon she'll be only too glad to get rid of me, seeing as she won't be able to avoid me for at least a week while we're away. Actually, she quite likes the 12 Bar as a venue and might even come along with me.

Look forward to seeing you there  :)

Quite amazingly (can't remember the last time she went to a gig - possibly Brian Wilson at the RFH when he did 'Pet Sounds') she's coming along!

At least, she says she is. I'm used to her chickening out at the last moment (as I've mentioned before, she doesn't like being stuck in crowds), but hope she doesn't  :)

Not looking at all good for Hyde thsi week-end.

I asked but got a big fat NO instead of a miracle.

Think I over used my brownie points going out every night this week and doing so many T&V gigs.

Hi Gaby, ein Glück, dass es You Tube gibt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGcWtPOL6aQ

from the new album .     were buzzing ...    anyone else going from the forum ?? 8)

I planned on going to this-I used to live in Hyde many years ago and the last gig at this venue sounded great. Instead I'm doing just about the only thing I'd rather be doing-hopefully-watching City at Wembley win the cup. It should make for a good atmosphere at the gig if they do!

Gig:  Mucky Mulligans - Perth, Scotland .

well all i can say is that Tim played the gig and we all enjoyed it ..it was superb !

There was another gig on the same night - Angelic Upstarts , just along from Muckys
at the Corinna , it was a sell out so Tim had stiff competition there ...muckys wasnt heaving
by any means and Tim didnt play till very late too which meant some of the younger folks
who filled the place had trotted off to some nightclubs ...

HOWEVER -- it was a great gig , with Tim putting his all into the set he played ...
Also -it's the first time id heard some of the tracks from the new album live and they didnt
dissapoint , superb and this mornign YET again what am i humming and singing .....
AND whisteling ??    LATER LATER ( whistle whistle )  it get lodged firmly in my brain ..

i never wrote down a set list , but i can say Tim played a wide variety of songs ...as usual.

cheers TVSmith ...punk rock royalty .

PS there were FIVE acts on the bill..thats £1 each !   amazing !!!

Bugger! After moaning at Ray from The Bitter End that he hadn't booked TV to play his birthplace he goes and does that.

9th September.

Right in the middle of our 5 days in Lincoln which is booked and paid for.

Oh well, there's rumours of a later date as well so maybe I'll be in luck for that.

Maybe have to try and get to the 12 Bar gig but transport is absolutely shit with all this Olympics crap 'causing excessive 'works'.

I think the last act is generally off by midnight at The 12 Bar on Thursdays. Unfortunately, I think you'd probably have to scoot a bit early to get back to Romford by public transport. I'll be driving - don't think I can help much to get you back but, if there's somewhere I can drop you which you think helps, I'll do it. Mrs.Slaughterboy is the public transport expert (she works on the Jubilee Line at N.Greenwich) - I'll ask her  :)

After 6.30, you don't have to pay to park in London, provided you can find a space that isn't either restricted (ie Red Route) or a Residents Bay (just had an image of a bloke with a huge eyeball for a head parking a little car!). There's lots of off-street parking in the area, if you know where to look which, of course, is all right for me, but difficult if you don't know London so well.

There's usually a load of spaces just off Tottenham Court Road - about a 5-10 min walk from the 12 Bar.

Driving is simplest for me as I'd miss the last train home but that of course means no beer for me.

I'm not booking a hotel when I live 15 miles from the venue. ;D

If there were more TV fans going from around here I'd suggest a taxi. But this is unfortunately not the case.

When I went to the 12 Bar a few months back I found the parking difficult - but we were delayed and I suspect if you arrive soon after the congestion charge is lifted you won't have a problem. I still parked OK (& for free) by the British Museum which is not far away.

Otherwise, there is always space on Store Street (4th turning on right up Tottenham Court Road), if not on a meter (you don't have to pay after 7pm) then on any single yellow, as long as it's not a residents bay. I normally try the few turnings before Store Street beforehand as there normally are spaces available on them and end up on Store Street as worse case scenario.

It's about a 5-10 min walk from the furthest point to Denmark Street.

Back from tonight's gig.

And what a gig!

If Nick and Ken made it tonight (which they probably did) then I was the bloke closest to the stage with both a stupid grin and a ridiculous shirt on. Apologies for not revealing meself, but Interpol (EuroBabylon, not ludicrous fabricated boy-band) are after me.

You ain't seen me, right?  :o

Gave set list to Fleags - expect detail soon ;)

The Man with the set list is in bed, so you'll have to wait  ;D
Great night 8)
Such a cosy venue :-\
It seems ages since I've been to a TV gig, really enjoyed it especially as the night was rounded off my one of my favourites, Runaway Train Driver, no Conga tonight though :(

Ken wasn't there unless he was in a cunning disguise or hiding very well  :)

Yes indeed great gig - TV and Leigh on top form!!

nice to see Jamie P / Andy / Tom Phobic / Slaughterboy / John / Gaye and clan - other noted attendees included Esso from Lurkers, Tara and Andy from Duel and Texas Terri amongst others !

set list as follows (from the Setlist nabbed by Slaughterboy) ..did Tom actually buy anything?  ;) ;D

No time to be 21
gather your things and go
luxury in exile
coming in to land
borderline
lion and the lamb
expensive being poor
man down
headhunters
true believers
worn once
the suit
lords prayer
arms of my enemy
gary gilmours eyes
bored teenagers
one chord wonders

and for the encore
good times are back
runaway train driver

indeed a great set and a great night - cheers all

Apologies for not making it to the gig but I am going to have to come clean & admit that I am a total wimp! We got to London at 7 o clock. I assumed that my new sat nav would take me straight to the venue. Oh how wrong I was! After 2 or more hours of hearing it say recalculate & do a u-turn if possible & then the bloody thing seizing up & not saying anything I gave up. At 9.30 I saw a Portsmouth sign & took it & drove home dejected. Looks like I missed a great gig as well. I am cursing the London traffic, cursing the sat nav & cursing myself for getting so wound up & flustered. Sometimes I hate the modern world. Next time I am coming by train.  :'(

I'd never just rely on sat nav, I always try to "read from a map in my mind" (when I travel somewhere I look up maps on the net or elsewhere). Of course it always looks different "in real" compared to what you think it looks like from the map...  :-\

I wasn't there.

Simple reason. I couldn't afford it. Xa's job is not safe and we can't do all the stuff we'd like to. Got to keep what cash we've got to afford a good time at Rebellion and our other event in Lincoln in September.

Sad. But that's just the way it is. :(

Post by: brianmekon on July 18, 2011, 07:14:51 PM
Hi Folk, I usually just pop in here to find out what is going on, not done for a while as had pc trouble. I recorded the Dundee gig 27th march with the valentines and the Perth gig a few months ago. I have uploaded the dundee gig to megaupload and it can be downloaded over the next 21 days. It is a zip file and is in flac format not mp3, so you will need to unzip then convert to wav or have something that plays flac. I use traders little helper. If someone wants it as a hard copy (cdr) pm me and can sort something out. I am looking for some early solo stuff if anyone wants to trade me. I have never tried megaupload before so hope it works ok. It took me 1.45 to upload but should be quicker to download. Please let me know if it works ok(or not). I will try and sort the perth gig in a few days.. Cheers
here is link, enjoy. Oh and don't want to see this on ebay, or we will send the boys round! Spoke to TV at the perth gig and he is trying to sort out a 9 date band tour in dec. and will be comming back to Dundee 8)

SOUTHAMPTON: The Talking Heads
Thu 8th Dec, 2011, 19:30

LONDON: New Cross Inn

TV is playing The Bitter End in Romford twice.

9th September is his usual solo stuff. Support from the current line-up of Menace and probably two other unconfirmed bands 'cause Ray usually puts 4 or 5 bands on at a time

9th December is with The Valentines doing Adverts songs. Support not confirmed but, again, there will probably be 4 or 5 bands in all.

And we can double check that next week in Blackpool anyway. ;)

Would I look a bit overdressed in my top hat and monocle?  ???

Ha yeah probably. If you do make it ask TV to point me out and I will buy you a drink.  :)

Will do, Nick  :)

Not if that's ALL you're wearing. I would suggest some trousers and a jacket of some kind. :)

Ha ha I can just picture that. Tv would not have to point you out then.  ;D

Yeah. Everyone will point me out, shortly before throwing me out.

Will invest in pants.

Pants purchased.

I'm going to be leaving London 6ish, should be there for 8  :)

A fun evening - got to go to work now, so full report later

Ok.

Easy 2hr drive to Gosport, so easy that I got there a bit too early, so had a quick pint and a stroll around the seafront. Very nice it is too, overlooking that new building thingy that looks like a sail. Bit posh in areas, bit run-down in others.

Bumped into TV immediately and had a good chat, TV being on good form as usual and me grinning and nodding a lot. He then introduced me to Nick and Valerie and very good company for the evening they were, too. What nice people TUTS are!  :)

The venue was pretty much what I'd expected: A club room with a big bar (it is a rugby club, after all) and a good sized stage at the end of the room. I'd missed the first band, but soon wished I'd missed the second band, too. I think I've expressed my opinions on punk covers bands here before, so I'll say no more. Third band, however, were rather good, so good in fact that Valerie went and bought some 'product'. Girl on the vox and bloke on the drums were esp good.

I bought a 'Coming In To Land' t-shirt from TV on the merch stand, Tim guessing me to be a 'Medium' and me proving him categorically wrong by trying it on. It fitted tighter than a condom!  I therefore purchased a 'Large', taking said size off the shirt and sticking it on my arse. Tim went to stick a 'Large' on his crotch!!  I think he'd be more truthful if he stuck it on his heart, bless him. He said I shouldn't stick the 'Large' on my backside as I'd be bound to forget it. As if  ::)

Anyway: Showtime

No Time To Be 21
Coming In To Land
Expensive Being Poor
Lion And The Lamb
Worn Once
Great British Mistake
You Saved My Life...
Complaints Dept
New Church
Gary G.
Bored Teenagers
One Chord Wonders
Generation Y
In The Arms Of My Enemy

Encore:

Tomahawk Cruise
Not A Bad Day

Finished on the stroke of midnight, where I had to say my goodbyes and bugger off back to London. Easy drive.

Still had that 'Large' sticker on my arse this morning, mind...

Nothing from Nick, yet? Hope all is well with him and Valerie  :)

As for the 'fun' bits in the reviews, I always have such a laugh at TV's gigs - normally because the man himself is such a good laugh and always has a funny story or six to tell, but also because the company of TUTS lends itself so well to good humour. It tends to come with age and experience, I think. The more you see, the more you can see a funny angle.

I think Nick and I had a laugh about the similarity in rareity between spotting a full Mullet haircut at a gig and a red squirrel in the wild - both of which seem to be spotted in isolated pockets of Britain due to changes in their wild habitat.

Now you ain't gonna hear that kind of conversation at a Strokes gig!  ;)

Hey there. I went to work straight after the gig & have only just finished. (I work in a residential home for guys with learning disabilities & did some sleepovers over the weekend so I have only just got back) It was great meeting you slaughterboy. You are a top bloke & we had a good laugh. Looking forward to meeting up again at the 12 bar real soon.
I was pleased to finally be able to buy a TV Smith T shirt in my size, although I suspect that like you I should have gone for a large & not medium as the old tummy is expanding lately.
You have saved me the trouble of writing up the set list although you missed Only One Flavour  :)

Possible, they've done that often.

As I said before, I can't see the early October gigs, but hopefully Nuremberg in late November. It's a Saturday, so should be possible. (And I liked Nuremberg when visiting in mid August, a good reason to go there again.)

Nick, will just be me and Leigh - just to stop any rumours before they start! Actually, me and Garden Gang haven't played together since their line-up changes a few years ago. (When you finally get to the 12 Bar  you'll see there wouldn't be room on stage for us all anyway!)

First Time it looks like nobody would come, for the Support around 25 people was there, when TV got on Stage this triple, so around 75 People was there. Set you can see in the Archive. Gig itself was pretty fun. Interesting that i did know the Lyrics of Identity, i heared it for the second time.

Never known The 12 Bar to sell out for anyone, ever.

However, there's always a first time and I haven't gotten mine yet, which is stupid really as I had the ideal opportunity two weeks ago while I was there watching another band.

I might ring Barnet (the manager) up and check how sales are going.

All being well, I'll be there  :)

Well that is comforting news. I thought with the added attraction of Garden Gang & Eastfield it might sell out as I have heard that it is a rather small venue.

Hope to see a few of you there.  :)

Bloke on tkt duty said they'd sold 'quite a lot' of them. I don't know how to quantify that statement - as the venue holds about 100-120 people, that could be 12 or it could be 112 -  I really don't know. All I will say is...if you're thinking of going and haven't booked a tkt yet, ring 'em up and book one on yer plastic. It's only £6+£1 booking.

Bargain!  ;)

Looking less likely that I can make the 12 Bar tomorrow night, but for thiose who can they're in for a treat - caught up with Garden Gang and Eastfield last night at Fleagles' Scream Lounge bash and they are all in fine form:

Garden Gang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCNcjF-ycQk&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

Eastfield:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sCZH0sUZBE&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

And of course there's TV too....

Good gig as ever at The 12 Bar last night, with Nick and Valerie and both Fleags in attendance.

Unusually for the 12 Bar, the place was very busy - not overly uncomfortable but, as anyone who's ever been there will attest, it doesn't take too big a crowd to make the venue a bit claustrophobic - which was good to see. Big crowds and TV is a good thing  :)

Anyhoo...set list:

...Good Times
21
Tomahawk Cruise
The Servant
Coming In To Land
Lion and the Lamb
True Believers
Expensive...
Man Down...
Headhunters
Luxury In Exile
Lord's Prayer
Borderline
In The Arms...
Gary...
Bored T
One Chord Wonders

Great set, Leigh was excellent again, TV was TV...the only disappointment was that I noticed the last number on the setlist to be Runaway Train Driver and was really looking forward to it as an encore...but the soundman brought up the music and that was that! No encore!!  >:(

Can't have everything, can you...

have to say excellent set from the dynamic duo!

and what was really great was to see lots of 'old' TUTS ..(pardon the description) ..faces there.
great to see for the first time in a while..as well as officially 'meeting Nick n Val.

Steve and Mellissa,PK,Sarah (Lari),Pip and Steve, Jamie, John, Gaye, Slaughterboy (of course), Klaus, Sylvie, all the eastfield and garden gang crew and I am sure I have forgotten some

top nite - but a shame we had to miss GG and eastfield due to late running ( mind you I did get my own private show on wednesday - he he)

We really enjoyed ourselves last night. Great meeting Mr & Mrs Fleags & meeting up with slaughterboy again. As already mentioned, it was a great set from TV & Leigh. It was great hearing Luxury in Exile & Borderline performed live. We also had to miss Garden Gang as I had to be up at 6 this morning for work. Got to bed at 2.30 this morning so I am a bit blurrrrrrryyyyy eyed. Southampton next with The Valentines :)

Yes, I did get in.  :)
Arrival in Nuremberg around 4pm, Pamp informs me that I should meet TV when he comes from the train station at 6.30. I stroll around the town a bit, end up at the "Christkindlesmarkt" (Xmas market), there's thousands of people, so I leave soon. When the time is closer I walk in the general direction of the pub "Wilderer", then head up the street towards the station, where indeed TV is walking towards me with his guitar and suit case. I take the guitar and pretend to be his roadie to get in.  ;)
It's a nice but small bar/pub with a punky theme (the owner later tells me it used to be heavy metal before he took over). The walls are decorated with all sorts of "kitsch" incl. religious pictures, crosses and other stuff (e.g. a pic of Keith Richards with a JD bottle and stickers from punk bands). As a veggie, TV isn't much pleased about the antlers on display, I guess it's because the name "Wilderer" means someone who's illegally hunting animals. There's also a huge Elk head (with Xmas glitter stuff on it).
Apparently the club sold 60+ tickets, there's fear of 90 people being crammed in here at the end - but as it turns out, it won't be too badly crowded. After soundcheck I'm a little bored, so I decide to sample the beers they have on offer (Grüner Helle, Zirndorfer naturtrüb, Schlösser dunkel). Later the 2 merch girls (Franzi + Nancy?) entertain me with some hilarious stories about their profs at Uni. Then I chat with the owner and also with Garden Gang guitarist Chick.
Pamp plays first, a good acoustic show with many of the songs from the new Garden Gang album ("Target group wellness & wine" is one of my faves, plus "Licence to live", "Masterplan" etc.). Then the local band "Hitchhikers" are on, nice guys, playing some kind of hardcore punk, which isn't bad live. Finally TV is on with a good set of songs as usual. Due to the beer testing, I can't give you a detailed set list, but many new songs were played, incl. (my wish) "Probably", "Complaints Dept" & "Worn Once" plus the hits like "Xmas Bloody Xmas" and "Runaway Train Driver".   8)
Later I hang around backstage with TV, Pamp and some people from the band and from the pub team. It must be around 3am when I go back to my hotel.

Only complaints: the floor is quite sticky and my shoes were becoming "heavy" to lift. Also a smaller fight broke out during the gig, which apparently was carried on outside (I was told about police coming but never saw them).  :(

...and so it was.

Not much of an art fan, me. Tonight was exactly the third time I've ever seen a gallery that wasn't ' Vision On'  so I'm not the most reliable of people to trust an opinion from. But...

Gaye's ceramic stuff was eye-catching, although that said, I've actually seen some of her work in that field before and am therefore a bit biased. I enjoyed Mark Mothersbaugh's pictures, Savage Pencil's poster art, Ray Gange's Clash lyric works and, unsurprisingly, all of Billy Childish's pieces. Penny Rimbaud's offerings pleased as did Robyn Hitchcock's. And all the photography got me reminiscing, especially those of TV & Gaye. But the most memorable works for me were those of Jowe Head from The Swell Maps. Don't ask me why. I couldn't tell you. They just did and that's that. Which brings me onto the ' other' artist...

TV did two short sets, interspersed with typical chat and humour over what Punk was about and how it had shaped his life and career, all completely unplugged as in no amps, mics or speakers. Went rather well, I thought:

Only One Flavour
21
The Future Used To Be Better
What If...
New Church
The Lord's Prayer
Generation Y
Great Brittish Mistake

Interval

In The Arms Of My Enemy
Complaints Dept
Xmas, Bloody Xmas
Gary

and off.

Pretty damn good for nothing :)

Couple of swift pints in the pub next door and that was that.

Got to ask about how Japan had gone and a few other questions, but they had to go as they both needed a bit of grub.

Looking forward to the 11th at New Cross now  :)

First night of the best of the Adverts live tour (part 2) kicked off at the Talking Heads Pub in Southampton. I must say that there was not so many people in attendance as earlier in the year when they played the Joiners & those who were there were rather subdued. This may be because of the extreme weather, the fact that it is almost xmas or that this pub is situated on the outskirts of Southampton rather than in the centre like the Joiners.
First up were a local pop band called Guilded Youth. Too Poppy for my taste. The excellent Avondale 45 were next & they rocked as usual.
Then came TV Accompanied by members of the Valentines & the Leeches. TV gave a brilliant performance & the band were spot on. The songs were the same as the previous tour but the encore was something special - full band versions of Xmas Bloody Xmas & Coming In To Land & rounding off with Cast of Thousands. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. A big thank you to all involved. Catch them if you can. We may never hear these songs performed this way again.  :)

Going to tonight's gig.

Anyone else?
Well...although nobody replied to my post, I'm pleased to announce that this was a well-attended gig, not just by J.Public, but at least a handful of TUTS :)

I'd kind of expected the Fleags to be there and, indeed, they were. Not only that, they got me in for nothing, as they had a couple of 'spares'. Tried to buy them a pint each in return, but the beer was so poor that they could barely pick one out. And then, surprise of surprises, Alan (and a pal) showed up, too!

(Almost) every SE London punk I know showed up as well, which was great to see, too .

The venue has been altered to better suit bands since previous visits. The bar has been moved back, allowing more moshing to occur - something that was to prove very necessary as the gig progressed. Never seen such a large percentage of women in the ruck and maul at the front before - at least 60%. Odd, but not in a bad way.

Anyhoo... Eastfield were good - better than when I saw them at the 12 Bar and got a good ovation, and The Spivs were very young and Ramone-tastic. I'd watch either again.

Then an older gentleman and some Italians took to the stage...

You don't really need me to tell you how good they were, but they were and the rest of a knowledgeable audience knew they were, too.

Set (which I got a copy of and gave to the Fleags) as follows:

21
Safety In Numbers
We Who Wait
New Church
Up On The Roof
New Boys
On Wheels
My Place
Television's Over
I Surrender
Male Assault
Bombsite Boy
Great British Mistake
Gary...
One Chord Wonders
Bored Teenagers
Coming In To Land
Xmas, Bloody Xmas
The Good Times Are Back

A great night - even Alan got 'moshed' by a girl at the front! ;)

Actually I think I might have been chatting to ya other  half Nick.  :P Well some sexy bird that was smokin' outside anyway. ;)
Actually I knew quiet a few people at the venue . There were a couple of the older Tv lot there.a few of the Rebellion crowd etc
I was told the gig nearly didn't happen as the promoter was pulling loads of gigs or sommat.  >:(

Anyway it was a bloody great gig  :D

Yeah that was probably her. And it was a great gig, like you said it was nice to have a bit of elbow room & get to the bar easily.  :)

Great great night - well worth the drive!

TV & the Valentines were on great form and it was a real thrill to hear Coming Into Land (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SZrSRLacgw) and Christmas Bloody Christmas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORfh6nXG4J8 given the full band treatment!

And strange, but nice (although not in a pervy way!) to see a mainly female moshpit which I think must have been nearer to 80% female much of the time - particularly funny during 'Male assault'!

Supports were also excellent; really loved the Spivs, who I hadn't seen before, and Eastfield were brilliant as always.

And of course great to see everyone - Sarah, who I've not seen in years, the Fleagles (who I have seen a few times!), Slaughterboy, Gaye, Paul the promoter, the Eastfield bunch et al

Another rip-roaring set from TV and The valentines at the Mello Mello bar in Liverpool last night. This was a re-arranged gig as the much bigger "Dome" was cancelled, but as TV announced this place is much better! and it was.
Missed the first two bands but made sure me and another mate from work (I`m trying to convert them to TV Smith fans one by one) got there for Cyanide pills set and I`ve got to say I like this band the more I see them.
Then TV and the valentines on about 10-30 and playing to a very enthusiastic crowd of about 100, which was a really good turnout considering it was a monday night and the weather was bloody awful.
Brilliant show as usual and the liverpool lot lapped it up. Set list more or less same as London gig but we got as encores Back from the Dead and Lords Prayer instead of Good times are Back and Xmas bloody Xmas.
Roll on Sat at Manchester if it`s as good as this and the Manchester gig in March I`ll be well happy.
Enjoy Leeds tonight TJ, Sadly there was no Cast of Thousands in the set but we also got treated to a cracking live version of Coming in to Land (Highlight of the Night for me).
Claret.

Great gig in Leeds last night.Good job I read TJ's post-I thought it was tonight! Caught up with Paul North and TV before watching the excellent Cyanide Pills for the 1st time. Great set from TV of course and a really good turnout, something of a rarity for punk gigs in Leeds.

Claret

Great night in Leeds. A crowd of a 100 on a Tuesday just outside Leeds city centre was a great achievement.

Met up with Ste and Lee in The Fox & Newt for a couple of Mary Jane's. Splendid. Not my favorite pub in the world as I was in a major gas explosion there on 12th April in 1978. One of those is that a bar flying through the air moments. I remember talking to two girls outside afterwards and asking these two girls if my face was alright whilst all they could do was stare at at 12 inches of loose skin hanging down from my hands like bandages. ...When I told TV about it later he decided he wanted to go to the pub as it sounded a much more exciting way to get fresh new looking skin than plastic suregery.

I digress...

Back at the gig I realised that the guy who I recognised in the pub who kept staring at my Gary Gilmore's Eyes sweatshirt was actually the drummer from Teev's new Adverts band. Duh! :-[

After finally getting my mitts on the Coming in to Land t-sirt (cheers Teev) and catching up with the man himself I caught the close of the superb Cyanide Pils set.

When the latest Adverts came on stage I took myself off to the side of the gig so I could watch both the band and the fans. And fans they were singing along to every single classic Adverts song and loving every precious moment.

For me the highlight of the gig by a country mile was the encore. XBX, the glorious Coming in to Land (with a cracking guitar solo by the boy from Mars) and a heart rendering climax of The Adverts best ever song, Cast of Thousands, which even got a sober Tj pogoing and singing along on the front row.

Good to also catch up with Jock's punk mare from the Elland Earthbound gigs and GJ at the end.

Thank you TV.

Thank you man from Mars.

Thank you Leeches (such raw energy together).

Thank you TUTS.

Perhaps the good times are back!

Fantastig gig at the Night and Day in Manchester last night, lots of people at the gig I would guess at over 150 but I was looking through beer goggles by the time we got there. Took two of my sons to this one and they loved every second of it. Set list the same as Liverpool except we got Xmas Bloody Xmas, Cast of Thousands and Good times are Back added.

Hi Noir  ;)

Well as you know Noir filmed the gig BUT we had a pro cameraman behind the desk with Tims permission
who filmed the whole gig from start to finnish- infact on  both nights ! ( Rezillos next night )  plus there w
as Noir's excellent footage too so its been well documented.

Tims set was yet again blistering hot , full to the brim with power and energy and passion .
Im maybe slightly biased but i think Tim IS THE best performer on the punk scene , esspecially with
backing band , who were outstanding by the way !   they played their hearts out too ...and the crowd at BGL
to see TVSmith and the Valentine/Leeches  loved every single second of it .

some people who missed TV the last time at Dundee were there to witness their favourite songs being played live
after being told how good the last gig was back in March .... one bloke wanted to hear Bombsite Boy and asked me if
it was in the set ?   I didnt know and wasnt going to hassle Tim to ask ... so it was sheer delight on his face when
the band played Bombsite Boy ...  ive never seen happiness like this in years .

Tim is obviously a firm favourite of ours and the people who have kept supporting him on all his tours all over the world
shows just how much he is loved.  his lyrics are superb his enrgy is endless, his passion is his music and on top of that Tim
is the most  down to earth bloke anyone can meet , and thats not bad for being punk rock royalty .

Ive been lucky enough to support Tim twice now and like i said to Tim , thats me sorted ! im chuffed ive managed to support
TVSmith and the valentines twice in one year , its a dream come true for me .

All the best to Tim and Gaye ...two very lovely people indeed.

see ya's soon . 8)

Sounds excellent Jock, I really enjoyed the London gig too and only wish that I could have captured more performances! I hope TV will resurface with the Valentines / Leeches again in the New Year but this time perhaps doing more of Tim's post Adverts stuff - Coming In to Land was such a highlight and I think there would be a good audience for a broader performance; Only one flavour; expensive being poor, Third Term; Probably; Runaway train driver; Not in my name; SWimming in the flood; Generation Y... so many!

Plus I assume the cameraman also captured Patrol at the gig? Will any be up on youtube? Plus when are we going to see Patrol venture out of Scotland down to at least Blackpool?!!

I agree with you 100% there Jock. :)
I can imagine the look on your mates face when Bombsite Boy came on. I think some of TV's Adverts songs have taken on a sort of mystical quality & its great to hear them with a full band. On the Roof sounds amazing.

Gotta agree with that Alan. I think it would be worth touring the whole new album with a band & including the songs you mentioned as well to fill the set up.

Hi Guys ...

yeh there is full sets by all bands at the venue in Dundee which will probably surface on youtube soon .

I know the camerman who will send Tim a copy of his set as he told me this , but im not sure what
will happen to the footage ... i suppose it will become available to TVSmith fans at some point soon.

Patrol would like to play Blackpool ... thats three times now Paul North's seen us so maybe ..just maybe he will
put a word in for us down there ?  also we play with    Peter & the TT Babies    in january so might have a word with
Peter too...  and Jennie and Daz  ;)
