Title: Laurie Driver: The Drummer Behind the Fast Driving Sound of The Adverts
Post by: Tj on June 23, 2012, 05:20:20 PM
Really pleased that Jamie interviewed Laurie for WE WHO WAIT. I thought he came over really well.

It's clear to see the true heart emtotion when he talks about how the band let him go and when he talks about how much he respected and admired TV.

I liked the bits about his drumming style. Far from professional, but working as a style of his own and for The Adverts songs!

Me too Uli. Like Animal in The Muppets.

I feel that Laurie really comes over as a Driving force that played a key part in shaping the music of The Adverts.

It sounded to me like he's still sucking on sour grapes after all these years. I could be wrong but that's how he came over in the interview.

"Animal" was actually played by the brilliant musician Ronnie Verrell as often mentioned in "The Frank Skinner Show" as he was a member of The Skinneretts. Laurie Driver would be as good as Ronnie in his dreams!

Before he died Ronnie had an accident and couldn't do some of the Skinner shows. His temporary replacements included Rat Scabies and Paul Cook. I don't think Mr. Driver was asked. :)

I'm begining to regret the title I chose from one of TV's songs.

I was pleased to see the bridge building being done by Jamie, Laurie, Gaye & TV in the documentary.

A lot of The Adverts unique sound came from Laurie Drivers drum playing as TV pointed out.

As you could detect from Gaye, Laurie and TV it was a shame how Laurie 'left' the band.

It's clear it couldn't last forever but it would have probably felt better for all partes if it had ended in a better way.

When I imagine myself in Laurie's place it hurts so not surprised he's got some sour grapes.

That was my impression. He obviously still resents Gaye. But nice of him to agree to appear.

i thought they were all relatively dignified, its tough when bands split, you always have some feelings of regret
