After the amazing success of the first ‘Punk for Macmillan’ on 22nd November 2013, where we raised £500 for the charity, we have decided to do it all again! This time we’ve gone acoustic and we’re very happy to announce that we have two of punks most loved characters playing for us, TV Smith and Max Splodge with support from Skin for a Canvas and Sarah Pink.

So do I Alan" The Huntsman comes a- Marchin' " it's from the " 9 Red Songs" LP but he didn't play it at the TRB bash havin' said that he played it a few years back at one of Tom's all ages gigs in a school if my memory serves me right . Tom looked like he was gonna have a heart attack when the line " The countryside alliance we'll call them the kunts for short "was bellowed out.  :o

Yeah, TV himself reports he gets to play bigger clubs with the Subs:
Quote
We took the night ferry from Sweden and have arrived in Finland, the weather minus 14 - so cold the windscreen of our van cracked. Usually I play the great Semi Final club here in Helsinki, tonight with the Subs I'll be upstairs in the much larger Tavastia for the first time!

Updates from TV:

So, it finally happened...yesterday our van broke down and left us stranded by the roadside in the snow. Some kind motorists ferried us to the next rest stop over the next hour and the van was towed back to the town we had just come from to get repaired on Monday. We had to get to our gig in Tampere. Three hours later the promoter was able to pick us and our instruments up to take us to the venue. We arrived half an hour after doors opened. The Subs borrowed equipment from my friends in support band Punk Lurex and we all had an amazing show in front of a sold out crowd. Now we have to find a way to get to our next gig in Kristianstad in two days...

First of all: more gigs in Germany should happen in May; already known are The Boys + TV in Augsburg and Ruhrpott Rodeo Festival:
http://www.ruhrpott-rodeo.de/

Setlist from Luzern on Tuesday (thanx @ Mariann):

Only One Flavour
First One To Sign Up
No Time To Be 21
Coming In To Land
Lion And The Lamb
I Delete
Expensive Being Poor
The Immortal Rich
Generation Y
Pushed Again
My String Will Snap
Gary Gilmore’s Eyes
Bored Teenagers
One Chord Wonders
Runaway Train Driver

Setlist on Wednesday in Karlsruhe was similar, but shorter. When I heard that UK Subs were supposed to be onstage at 10.30pm, I told TV to go on from 9.30, but of course he wouldn't listen to me. ;)  :P
Was there early and had a look around: the club "Alte Hackerei" is on the grounds of an old slaugtherhouse/butchery, the old buildings now re-used for all kinds of cultural things. (Bigger clubs like Substage & Tollhaus are now also in this area, which is good to know for me if I ever consider going there.)
Went in and met TV at the merchandise table (which has an excitingly wide range of things on offer - from cds and books to clothing). Of course I remembered to buy the book (tourdiary vol. 4) later. TV told me I should hurry reading, as Vol. 5 is already on the way!  :o
A bit later Ilove & Wolfgang arrived and we chatted at the bar near front stage (they told me they were already sitting there for the TV & BT gig in Nov.), also Markus (first met in Karlsruhe at a TV gig in 2002) came and more chat was done.  8)
Finally TV went onstage and played a short set (only 45mins), including many classics and 2 new songs (one of which he dared to play as the first song in the set!).  :)
First One To Sign Up
Only One Flavour
No Time To Be 21
Coming In To Land
Lion And The Lamb
I Delete
Expensive Being Poor
The Immortal Rich
Generation Y
Pushed Again
The Day We Caught The Big Fish
Gary Gilmore’s Eyes
Bored Teenagers
One Chord Wonders

On a Wednesday night the club was quite full and TV's set very well received by the crowd. (Not 100% sure about the setlist, but should be close.) Afterwards, I recognised Meike, who I hadn't seen for quite a while, so time for some TUTS chat.  8)

UK Subs came on 10.35 and I watched their set from the back of the club - there is a small "window"/door behind the bar, even there I was able to hear them clearly enough, goes to show how loud it was. What they played, sounded really good though. Most of their hits were included of course, "Warhead", "Stranglehold" and "CID" and even "Party in Paris"!

A good night in all. Next time I hope for a gig a bit closer than Karlsruhe (TV informed that next year will probably see a UK Subs & TV tour again, becoming a tradition...)

Cracking gig in Preston last night,TV on the last of 3 acts so a shorter set than usual. Missed the first act but the second "Slutch" were great. My first TV Smith gig of the year (must improve on that). Great venue with a separate music room. Very good attendance, the room was quite full, Oh and I got March of the Giants, sorry TV but I still owe you a beer for that !

Great show (TV delivers far more than a gig) in York last night at The Fulford Arms.

If TV was looking for a live venue than he can truly call 'My Place' he's now found it. I counted around a transfixed 60 at the front and quite a few at the back of the room.

Craig was right. TV sounds better at every gig. :)

Good to see GJ and Fred's mate Kim and to have a good catch up with Teev.

Great Britsh Mistake, Cast of Thousands and Bombsite Boy showed Teev's still willing to take the challenging path. Amazing that he can sing Bombsite Boy better in 2014 than he could at HITS in 1996.

Never seen Teev play in front of an Aha album sleeve before.

All I can close with is "The sun always shines on TV."7

Great show in York and good to see TJ and Craig again. Craig told me his spell with The Lurkers will be up soon as Arturu has moved back to Lincoln. The early start caught us out and I missed the 1st 10 minutes but a long set with plenty of new stuff made up for it. Too much talking from the people at the back did annoy me though- why do people do that.

It was indeed.  We had tickets on the balcony and were given prior entrance and only just made it for TV's set.  I dont know about the "downstairs crew" did you make it in time.. Although I did see "Steve The Fish" from our lofty height..

Tim & Vom played a stormer and the set list was Flavour, 21, Expensive, Imm Rich, Arms, Lion, GG, BT & OCW.  All with Vom on Drums.   This was the first TVOM gig in the UK. Had we mentioned it before!!!!!!

Johnny Moped came next.. The band were good but the singer... (pass!)

Ed Tudor Pole at his usual bizarre best.

The Damned..  Well just superb, including Happy Talk & Glad its all over from birthday boy..  Balloons, streamers and sticky string abounded...

Then, for me, bizarly The Ruts..  I would of thought that The Damned would have been the headliners,  a good chunk of the crowd went after the Damned's set and then the Ruts started with a reggae song, which seemed to "lose" the crowd for a bit..  But the upped the beat during the rest of the set, and finished a hour-set with Babylon.   Leigh looked and sounded really good in his new home.

A joyous evening only £1.75  a ticket and the first TVom in the UK (I think i mentioned that before somewhere).

I believe that was the point. A lot of people I knew who had travelled from outside London could not have got home if they didn't leave after The Damned and as it was really the Captain's night they made sure their fans were not going to miss them. I think about a third of the audience disappeared after their excellent set.

Considering the timings I was surprised that everything ran ahead of schedule and The Damned did 77 minutes when they were down to do just 60. Bonus!

I saw about 45 minutes of Ruts DC and thoroughly enjoyed it ESPECIALLY the reggae stuff. It's what they mostly do and putting the older, rockier songs back in the set is a relatively new thing. I understand the next album will be more rock and less reggae.

Personally I think Johnny Moped and Eddie Ten-Pole should have gone on before TV and Vom. But I made sure I got in early and saw it all. Or nearly all....

I only missed Eddie Ten-Pole 'cause I was outside having a smoke. Nearly two hours they made us wait to go outside.

And despite having a great time I still think The Forum has the absolute worst sound of any London venue of it's size. I found a spot at the back in the middle where it was acceptable.

I also counted the number of times somebody tripped or stumpled over my walking stick. It was 37 times. No lie. :)

Good points.

I stayed with my sister in London, so finish time was no bother and she only lives near Euston Station.

I had not heard the Ruts for years (well since Babylon!!), maybe I should of "got up to date"...

Indeed Moped & ETP before TVVOM (it was their 1st UK gig...  was it mentioned ;) ;) ;)

A good night though..

Johnny Moped was bloody great ... a star indeed,  ;)  in fact seeing him on stage again prompted me to watch the film, bloody hell what a laugh that was . Possibly the first film I've watched in the last ten years where I haven't fallen asleep. If you haven't seen it yet I suggest you hunt it down.
The audience where on great form half of them seemed to be members of other punk bands both old and new , bloody great night, great social blimey even the traffic lights were on our side and we got to London in 1 hour .  ;D

On the 26th of October 2001 I first met TV, Alan, TJ and Arturo at “The Bivouac” in The Duke of Wellington pub, Lincoln. Last night, we assembled again (except that Kim substituted for TJ this time) at The Jolly Brewer, diagonally across the road from The Duke of Wellington.

Not great for parking spaces I thought (having driven past a multi-storey car park just round the corner from the pub! D’oh!), I walked in to find Teev and Alan deep in conversation near the entrance. The support band were just starting their sound check, so punk rock really is killing the art of conversation! And what a wide ranging conversation we had. Alan trying to educate TV into the significance of Crystal Palace’s comeback against Liverpool last night will live longer in my memory than it will in TV’s! And that weird painting of “St Catherine Dying of Leprosy” – what was that about?

Anyway, to the music.

First up were The Detuners who play covers of old punk songs. Perfectly fine at what they do, but they were just like a louder version of the punk classics that were played over the pub’s PA before and after their (too long) set. The singer sounded American and wore a black hood throughout the set – to hide his beard? Anyway, he dressed up like Wilko Johnson’s character from “Game of Thrones”, not sure why.

Next up, The Mighty Kahunas who played ska punk and were better after their punky start became more ska-ified. Jolly bouncy stuff.

Teev takes to the stage about 10.10 and kicks off with “Only one Flavour” which goes down a storm with a healthy and receptive audience, and follows it up with “No Time to Be 21”. That leads to a bit of a “plague” of requests for more Adverts songs, including the obvious ones, so early in the set. Tim plays a couple more and explains to a young lady who requested “GGE” that you “Tend to keep your biggest hit until you’ve played a load of shit new songs!” and asks if it’s her first gig. She’s been brought by her Dad and these two will feature again soon…

A solid set progresses nicely including the new songs “I Delete” and “First One to Sign Up” in response to continued requests for “OCW” – “It’s coming at the end!” Do you want me to play it now, because that means the end of the gig?” I’d asked TV earlier if he’d been playing “Thin Green Line” recently and he said that he hadn’t but would try to remember how to play it - “But I’m NOT doing the high kicks!”. He plays it, he DOES the high kicks – great response!

“Dad” interjects – “My daughter wants her photograph taken with you!” “What now?”, says TV, “Is it that urgent or can I play some more songs first?” Much hilarity all round. When “GGE” is finally played Dad and daughter get up to “dance” and Arturo/Arthur has a word to stop him from grabbing the microphone. “Bollocks!” says Dad before seeing the size of Arthur and, ahem, dancing a little further away from the front shall we say!

Tim considers the recent imprisonment of Max Clifford and that provokes Arturo to start a conversation about other potential and actual celebrity paedophiles. “Anyway, it’s been lovely chatting” says Tim, and finally is able to restart playing!

A great night all round in a nice little venue. Everyone enjoyed it and Tim told the crowd he hoped to be able to do it again soon. So do we matey, so do we.

Not as Bad Gig was a pun Uli, it was based on the alternative version of Not A Bad Day that TV opened up the set with.

Here's the set list. Not quite the 45 strong set list of a few years back, yet I enjoyed the gig immensely by just loosing my Self in the power of TV's passion, the wonder of his lyrics and those ever infectious tunes.

Timmy Two Pints of Rat beer helped too.

1. Not A Bad Day (Slow alternative version) Intro
2. Flavour
3. Clone
4. This Place is Not a Home Town
5. 21
6. The First One to Sign Up
7. GB Mistake
8. Saved My Life
9. The Flood (Thanks for the cover Teev)
10. Land
11. Lion
12. I Delete (Awesome version)
13. Poor
14. Rich
15. Gen X
16. Snap!
17. Eyes
18. BT
19. Wonders

Following on from the excitement of purchasing my first (ideal for Shady walking) TV Smith hat at York earlier this year, at Wakey Hop I purchased my first ever TV Smith bag.

I was horrified to find when I got home that there were two bags, not one. I had accidentally double bagged The Legend called TV Smith.

I immediately text the said artist and asked for forgiveness. TV forced me to text back an IOU for £5 and give the second bag to hard core TUT, Smit, and deliver a a firm contracted agreement that I would not only buy his forthcoming genius album, but that I should also write raving fan reviews for the said album on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.

Of course I lie a lot.

On the subject or real truth, did you know that my most worn clothing ever is my TV Smith Fire in The Darkness at Earthbound scarf created by out very own Klaus F?

Just disappointed that Klaus never got around to creating the Earth's first TV Smith boxer shorts!

Boo! Poor show Klaus.

It was good to briefly meet you Alan.

Not sure why I missed writing March of The Giants as it's a favourite and the song TV usually plays for Claret (who had some lame excuse about why he couldn't make this Hop Show).

I look forward to a good natter next time Alan.

Cheers Tj.

Tim looks like he's selling beer and crisps - great idea!

I can just see future gigs:

Tim - "Hi Fred, what can I get you?"

Fred - "Thanks Teev, I'll have a Becks and "Television's Over" please."

Alan/TJ - get marketing it: "TV Smith, the singing kiosk"!

Ahhh you missed a good night Fred!

The Horseshoe is  a nice roomy venue, and in honour of the World Cup decked with more England flags than a BNP rally it was just unfortunate that this was the day that Italy compounded our misery as Costa Rica demonstrated how it should be done.... But that's more than enough of the World Cup!

First on were Steven Cooper and the Charlies, never seen him with a band before, and they delivered an enjoyable set, and was able to reminisce afterwards with Steven about all things Norwich; the Farmers Boys, Serious Drinking, Higsons, West Runton Pavilion...

Next came a folky flavour from a three-piece (apparently missing two of their number) called The Deportees, I wasn't sure at first but soon they won me over, how can you argue with a double-bass and an occasional trumpet? TV observed that it was difficult to pull off their sound with just three of them, but they did admirably.

After a brief drama from a raid by traffic wardens - TV warned me just in time and they let me off (my charm school days paid off) - it was TV time....

TV took the stage a little early, apparently quite a relief after recent Dublin and Bangor gigs and also relieved to see a decent crowd - "I think I was the first person to play here when it started having music on and that time there was no one here - and this time there is, even though it's so nice outside, so things are getting better..." and straight in to 'Not a Bad Day'. Not a bad start.

'No Time To Be 21' followed, but other than a wonderful 'Television's Over' (which brought a punter straight to the Merch Stand to demand which album that came from) and 'Great British Mistake' that was it from the Adverts days until close to the end, instead we were treated to a range of TV solo favourites songs including 'Flavour', 'Expensive Being Poor', 'Immortal Range', 'Lion & the Lamb' and 'Coming In To Land' plus several new ones including 'Replay', 'I Delete', 'The First One To Sign Up', and also 'Sink In The Drink'.

TV rounded off with the Adverts classics GGE, Bored Teenagers, and One Chord Wonders. Yep a great night - and also got to see a few world cup goals knocked in on the giant screens, but I think I was the only one to see them as everyone else was glued on the other TV. And quite rightly so, did I mention that that's enough of the World Cup?!

Had a great evening at the 100 Club last night. Nice to meet Ken & Za at last. Trust they enjoyed themselves as much as I did  :)

Had just enough time to introduce myself to them before The Phobics came on. Started off with three new (ish) songs, then treated the early shift (7.15 start! ) to some of their more familiar stuff. Went down well. Think Ken & Za liked them too. Just after they finished, John and Sophie turned up, fashionably late. They were a bit gutted to miss The Phobics but looking forward to seeing TV. I avoided the next band, but got to see The Featherz (as it turned out) again. Hadn't realised I'd actually seen them before. But they were really rather good, girly punk/glam fun. Shall certainly look out for them again.

Next: TV time.

Tim announced that it was going to be a shorter than usual set, but all that meant was concentrated greatness! And that it was:

Runaway Train
21
Expensive...
Immortal Rich
Generation Y
Lies
CITL
Lion & The Lamb
GG
BT
OCW.

And gone to a rapturous ovation.

Looking forward to an extended version tonight!

Yes. Good to meet you. We did like The Phobics. Putting them on BEFORE  a covers band seemed like a silly idea.

A few less than last night attended the Ritzy gig ::)

But those who did were treated to customary TV treasure.

Met up with Jon & Sophie early on and soon realised that it was going to be an 'intimate' one. Once it became clear that no-one else was going to show, TV kicked off. Crowd was far from huge, but were very appreciative. Set list:

Not A Bad Day
March Of The Giants
Only One Flavour
Clone Town
21
Safety In Numbers
Replay
We Who Wait
The Future Used To Be Better
What If?...
Roll Like A River
Long Gone
CITL
Lion & The Lamb
I Delete
Expensive (aborted - broken string)
My String Will Snap (of course! )
GBM
London Hum
Big Fish
In The Arms...
Gen Y
GG
BT
OCW

...then a severe lack of action at the merch stall. Other than me and Jon  ::)

I, personally, enjoy gigs like this. More intimate, more intense, more TV.

Tim said that he'd probably have gotten more people in if the gig hadn't been a free one. The problem was more due to the promoter (a "fan") being too lazy to do his job, ie, actually promoting the gig rather than sitting back and assuming that people would just show up.

Ah well...more space for us four to watch the gig in...

Also have to report that last night was the first TV gig I've ever sat down through.

Felt wrong...Jon suggested that I could always go and stand somewhere if I was that bothered. But as everyone else was seated, I decided that not looking ridiculous was the better course of action. Would have looked (even more of) a tool (than usual) if I'd stood up on my own.

Title: Augsburg Aug 15, 2014 (incl. setlist!)
Post by: Uli on August 16, 2014, 10:09:12 AM
Short version: great night, nice people, good songs played, setlist noted, over & out.

Longer version: so it's back to Augsburg again, TV playing here for the 4th time since last October (2 ACUK/EB gigs, supporting a Boys show and now Sputnik)! Still liking this town, I drive off a bit early and take a nice little walk through the centre of Augsburg again... However when trying to get to the pub "Schauspielhaus Sputnik" (been there for a Garden Gang gig in April) there is a problem: roads are closed and I don't know for sure how to get there otherwise... after a longer detour I finally arrive, find a parking space and walk to the pub. A quick hello to Gerhard (organiser of ACUK festival etc.), then PamP and TV - and a fan (Flaus) who took it upon herself to drive six hours for this gig (plus 2 more for the Saturday show in Altoetting)! Not bad!  8)
Ilona & Wolfgang are still missing, but a bit later Tim tells me they've arrived and are chatting outside.
PamP starts the gig with his acoustic solo show, very good as usual. Then Gerhard (also known as the "General") comes on solo with electric guitar (many of the riffs seem to be lifted from Ramones songs, no miracle, as his solo shows started with a Ramones tribute).
Finally TV is on at 10.30, meanwhile the pub is filled with a decent crowd. He plays until curfew at around 12! People are very pleased with the show, there is a lot of cheering and dancing, which is how it should be.  :)
A few "rarities" in the set for long-time fans too, like "One Million Pounds" (hadn't heard this for a while!) and "Wish I could see clearly". I volunteer to take notes, after Ilona reminds me that someone should write down the setlist:

Not In My Name
Only One Flavour
No Time To Be 21
The Future Used To Be Better
We Who Wait
Long Gone
Coming In To Land
Lion And The Lamb
Useless
I Delete
Expensive Being Poor
One Million Pounds
Immortal Rich
Dangerous Playground
I Wish I Could See Clearly
Complaints Dept
Pushed Again
My String Will Snap
Generation Y
In The Arms Of My Enemy
Gary Gilmore's Eyes
Bored Teenagers
One Chord Wonders

Good Times Are Back
Runaway Train Driver

Chatting with Ilona, Wolfgang and the performers a bit afterwards. When Gerhard tells TV he missed Lords Prayer, I tell him it's illegal to play that in Bavaria on the "Maria Himmelfahrt" holiday (Aug 15th)!  ;D

Ok PLF.  Poulton was a port/settlement near the coast back in the time of the Norman conquest, so that could be where the French influence comes from.

Essen on Saturday night was one of the best "band" gigs that I have seen.

After duly arriving at Essen Steele station, despite forgetting the name of the venue!! we headed towards the "town" and found BB heading towards us and he told us the location.

Freakshow is tucked away in the corner of a square, next door to an "off-licence", my mate was impressed with the 1/3 bottle of brandy being 5 euros.

The club was fantastic, tiny, stage area about the size of the stage at 12 Bar.  I think by about 9pm it was full as I saw people being turned away.

The set list has been posted already, so will not labour on that. Good bit of banter when Vom joined for the 2 songs..  my comment to Mateus that he should raise the drumstool so that Vom could reach, bought suitable comment!!

In all the set lasted approx 1hr 25.

I have some photos, which I will try and upload.

Great to see Fred and Kim and finally get to meet Alan (the other one) at the Treat of Commerce last night for another great night from TV.

Odd venue for a punk gig but the sound quality was great and it was good to be able to ensure that your hair was just right in the mirror directly behind TV as he played, and there was a good and appreciative crowd. A great set of old and new and I really enjoyed hearing 'As Soon As I Found It I Lost It' as well, not heard that live in a while.

Here's a couple of songs from the evening; an oldie and a newie:

Hometown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8ey95dFaX8&feature=youtu.be

Safety in Numbers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg3c4vW8BKw&feature=youtu.be

You can just about see the intrepid camera man in the mirror behind, struggling to film  whilst ensuring his hair is just right..

Ah...you missed me and, far more importantly, TV.

Friday nights in December in Southend and beyond tend to be office Xmas party nights. Well...TV made The Railway his own party venue. Xmas Bloody Xmas!

The Featherz provided their usual energetic prelude of attitude and punk, but were just an appetiser for the main event.

Wasn't anywhere near as packed as recent Railway gigs but that was never going to change TV'S set, delivered with his trademark mixture of fury and black humour. We were treated to:

Only One Flavour
21
Safety
Replay
CITL
We Who Wait
The Future Used To Be Better
Lion And The Lamb
New Ways Are Best (!!)
Atlantic Tunnel
GBM
I Delete
Expensive Being Poor
Immortal Rich
Gen Y
Festival Of Fools
Xmas Bloody Xmas
My String
GG
OCW
Bored

...and off.

I've only seen Tim three times this year but, like Xmas Bloody Xmas, it's always the same experience,.Unlike XBX though, it's always a pleasure  :)

I just rang The Red lion in Ramsgate to enquire about curfew for tonight.

Was told, that there was no curfew they usually play until we get "fed-up" with them.  I forwarned her to expect a very late night..

Report to follow tomorrow!!!
Title: Re: Gigs 2014

And so, as promised.

With temps hovering just above zero the "taff mobile" headed down the Thanet Way and 25 minutes later duly arrived at The Red Lion in Ramsgate. Having been advised of the "reputation" of the venue, it was with trepidation that I ventured in, but what a surprise.. I was welcomed in by people that I had never seen before and with "Hophead" at 3 pound a pints..  well, it would be churlish not to indulge!

The evening was a "50th" for a regular at the pub and it turned out that Russ had been in the support band "The Warriors" when TV had last played in Ramsgate.

First band on were The Sex Pistolz, who very good with the band making an effort to look like their parts, although later seeing "Sid" "eu natural" i.e. shaved head, was a bit of a shock.

Next were Ted Dibiase and the Million Dollar Punk Band.  Loud!, very loud! but a good sound and "show" which included "distribution" of $million bank notes, drinking champagne and smoking cigars to live up to the bands name.

TV started at 2225, with a audience of around 80 in the immedite bar and about the same in the "top bar" the usual energy performance and excellent to see so many other members of the audience knowing the songs, including the ones from I delete.  So we had

Flavour
21
CITL
Replay
Lion
Television
Dlete
Expensive
Imm Rich
GBM
Gen Y
String
Festival
New Church
Lords Prayer
Wheels
Tommy Cruise followed by a lovely chorus of "Stoner, Stoner"
Good Times, including backing vocals of "dah, dah, dah, dah dah dahhhh" by the Planet Thanet Massive, well about 6 of us!
XBX
Arms
GG
BT
OCW (at the end of which a string did snap
) and finish at 2340

A really good night, Russ was well chuffed that so many came and I think that everyone enjoyed the proceedings.

Maidstone next!!   Well mrs Taff wants to go to her parents in Ashford...  so it would be churlish  not to take her, me to say hello and then do some "gardening" at The Flowerpot.  until then "Dah dah dah dah dah dah dahhh"

Just back from tonight's Borderline gig.

Annoyingly abbreviated TV gig tonight, esp as the next band were, in both mine and Mrs S's opinions, Meatloaf lacking bread and beef. Anyhow...

Bumped into my bro's bro-in-law so there was already a nice, friendly family theme going on when Gaye arrived as well. Unfortunately, some kind of fart war broke out close to where we were standing which, y' know, kind of strained (as well as stained) the atmosphere somewhat. Gaye and her good friend Diane chose wisely and moved in the general direction of 'away' for the duration of TV's set. Said set consisted of:

Only One Flavour
21
I Delete
First To Sign Up
Expensive...
Immortal Rich
Generation Y
GG
OCW
Runaway Train (last two featuring Atilla on fiddle accompaniment)

Next band stunk almost as much as the recurring fart wars that began immediately TV left the stage so...me and Mrs S decided to bail out and seek some Thai food, as neither of us had eaten.

Brief but worth it :)

Just got in from visiting my parents to see TV's doing a surprise extra show in Camden tonight. Apparently 'Punk's Not Dad' had to pull out due to illness.

''I've been unexpectedly asked to play Andy P from Fear'n'Loathing fanzine's birthday bash at the Fiddlers Elbow tonight, after headliners Punk's Not Dad sadly had to pull out due to "man flu." Also on the bill: Hagar The Womb, The Bears, and the wonderful Phobics. Only a fiver to get in - hope to see some of you there! From 7:30, 1 Maldon Road, Camden. Nearest tube: Chalk Farm.''

...and it's too late to get there.  :(
Title: Re: Gigs 2014
Post by: slaughterboy on December 18, 2014, 01:56:43 AM
Sorry you couldn't make it Vic but, fortunately for me, I did.

The Phobics were just as wonderful as ever, Hagar The Womb were ok, no less, no more, and The Bears were pretty damn good.

But TV is TV and there's no escaping it, lucky us!

Had another good chat with Tim before the gig and he confirmed my fears that the 'fart war' that I spoke about in my review of the Borderline gig continued in earnest around his merch stall - not pleasant for anyone. Looks like we bailed at the right time!

Anyway...back to tonight.

Whilst I was chatting to TV, a guy came over and suggested that a friend of his would be made up if Tim played '...an old song - don't know if you still play it...it's called "One Chord Wonders"...?' TV replied that, although he hadn't planned on playing it, now, he would. And so he did.

Set list:

Only One Flavour
21

I Delete
Festival Of Fools
Complaints Department (with words altered to suit the 50th Birthday of long-time TV fan, Andy P)
Expensive
Xmas
GG
OCW

...and off.

Short but essential :)

Bloody great night down Guildford at the Holroyd Arms last Saturday.  ;D  This pub really is turning into a great venue . What a night opening with the Fanzines and closing with the fanzines, in between you had 1984 . the secret got out it was Crisis  :D ( No town hall, PC 1984, later of course members popped up in Death In June , Sol Invictus etc ) n bloody stunning they were too, great to hear those songs live once again , hopefully they will continue .

Next up  a member of the Members J.C Carroll who did a great little acoustic set . I used to love the Members they were one of our local bands , my mates band the Dials were always supporting them , It was great to see JC join the Fanzines for a full band rendition of a Members classic with crowd singing along.

Next up was TV I'll leave it to one of the many Tuts present to do the review and set list.  :D needless to say it was a great , energetic set filled with well basically everything from the early Adverts to the new album. Bloody great .  ;D

Next it was the Fanzines for the late night closing set , TV guested on vocals for an Adverts classic , the beer was flowing the party was in full swing from this point actually a couple of hours earlier it all became a bit of a beery blur , what a great night and heads up to the Andy's for putting this great night together  8)
