Title: Brits Abroad
Post by: Alan on July 30, 2014, 05:00:22 PM
Surely our German friends here don't hold these views of us Brits featured in Bild......

Drunk, overweight and sunburnt: what the Germans think of holidaying Britons

German newspaper Bild lists the "ailments" that afflict Britons abroad, including a tendency to drink too much and strip off at the slightest opportunity

OK I may have a little sunburn...

Surely not.  :)
Please bear in mind "Bild" was and is the worst paper in Germany (ever!), it's no miracle these clichés come from there.  >:(

Talking of sunburn, Bild is the equivalent of "The Sun"...  ;)

(Btw, the image of German tourists is probably not much better.)

It seems the tit-for-tat has begun...

Being moderately travelled, I find that pretty much every nation acts as good or as bad as the next whilst on their holibobs. My worst experience was spent listening to a group of blokes from Burnley (sorry Chris! ) bellowing like bulls for about four hours starting at 2am after the clubs kicked out in Corfu in 1997.

Never once met the English stereotype of a German tourist. Apart from the nudity, of course... ;)

I encountered some of the German 'stereotypes' leaving towels on the pool beds type in Malta.

But the Germans I was with didn't like them either and threw the towels in the pool...of ANOTHER hotel.
Thus disproving the other German 'stereotype' of them having no sense of humour. :)

THIS IS NOT FUNNY AT ALL!!!  >:(

Or maybe I'm being ironic again...  ;D

Next time I'm in UK I'm going to get drunk and nude (again).  :-[

No offence taken Shane ! I once went to watch The Clarets and could only get a ticket amongst the lot you have mentioned and even I felt intimidated and I live in the same town! If I am bored on a weekday I often go into Burnley town center and have a game of "Spot the normal person" to myself ! needless to say I am there a very long while.

I fixed it for you.  :)
You don't necessarily need to click on "insert quote", you can also click on "quote" on the post (instead of "reply"). When typing your text, take care that the "/quote" in brackets [] at the end of the quote remains intact!

Not too bad, that one, Alan!

Funny thing is it shows a pic from Reutlingen, where I was yesterday (but not in that narrow lane, I know it though...)!

The world’s narrowest street is in Reutlingen. It is called Spreuerhofstrasse and is 31 cm (one foot) wide at its narrowest point.

Here's another tip for Brits visiting Germany.

If you visit Auschwitz to 'pay your respects' it is not respectful to take 'selfies' wearing a big grin and then post them on your Facebook page.

It makes you a fucking idiot.

Great to see Ernst Haeckel get a mention. His writings on evolution and embryology made a great impression on me when I was at school.

Unfortunately, his ridiculous ideas on "human races" also had a huge impact on the Nazis.
