Title: Rebellion 2016
Post by: GJ on October 26, 2015, 09:01:29 PM
Some good bands booked already- Descendents, Flag (Black Flag minus Greg Ginn doing all the early stuff), plus welcome returns for Spizz, Reagan Youth, Dictators, Dickies, Vibrators, Major Accident.

Still waiting for TV to be confirmed but some good additions; SLF, Jodie Foster's Army, Brix Smith and her ex Fall pals and er..Jilted John!

Talking to Tim on Friday night, he'd mentioned he might not be doing Rebellion -  as yet he's not been offered a slot with the band (maybe only an acoustic set??) what an insult - what would Rebellion be without TV Smith?!
Going to email the promoter imploring that he's booked - would really hope that others will do so too!!!

That makes no sense given the reception TV always gets... TV with band is a key highlight of the weekend!

Absolutely - that's what I've just emailed Rebellion to say!

Fantastic news that TV's finally been listed - thought I was going to have to cancel my accommodation!

Well bands are now listed by day - and it looks like Thursday is possibly the best day for me, and not just because TV's in the Opera "with friends"

Mind you I must catch Jilted john on Saturday....

Stage times up....

TV in the Opera House on Thursday at 9.50pm so there's a nice comfy seat to look forward to! (& no particular clash for me either - bonus! Although GJ will be compromised by the Vibrators at 10.10)

But that appears to be TV's only appearance.....

One too many (if I'm not there!).
Title: Re: Rebellion 2016
Post by: GJ on June 05, 2016, 11:13:28 PM
some very strange timings here-The Descendents on at exactly the same time as The Dickies- fucking stupid! After The Descendents is a 2 hour Don Letts DJ set! Flag are on at the same time as The Dwarves! Why are the Glitter band headlining the ballroom? This means the damned and cock sparrer are both on at the same time! Alan pointed out the overlap with TV and The Vibes-surely the Vibrators should be headlining The Pavillion as they are followed by less well known bands (Members, Mick o'toole-who? and Jericho Hill-who again?). Also- TV should be headlining The Opera House, not the Pukes.
Other clashes- Slaughter and the dogs original line up at exactly the same time as Jello , Adolescents and the Street Dogs at the same time,Chelsea and Major Accident and Spizz  all clash as do 999 and Gimp Fist and Jilted John and Nick Cash and SLF and The Freeze. :'(.

One day I'll go to Rebellion and I'll be able to join in with all the grumbling!

It's exactly the wrong time of year for me but I'm determined to make it at least once.

Rebellion in the Guardian - and even a link to a 999 video courtesy of the Descendents ... https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jul/18/descendents-playlist-adolescents-buzzcocks-pears-and-more

Sadly no TV Smith on their playlist but maybe that will change if they catch his set

A few of the US bands have dropped out; Street Dogs (the Boston fire dept. cancelled all leave!), Off With Their Heads (family reasons, disappointed they won't be on), Freeze and Fear.
OK who's going? Alan, Chris, Fred...any others?
Title: Re: Rebellion 2016

Can't do Rebellion at the moment I'm afraid. I hope to go again at some future point.
Title: Re: Rebellion 2016

Just me :(

Mind you very excited by the line up and particularly looking forward to:

Pears; Dwarves; Descendents on Thursday (TV is a given!!) - I was also looking forward to Off With the Heads...

CJ Ramone; Wonk Unit; Reagan Youth; GIUDA; Big D & the Kids Table; Brixie Smith; Weirdos on Friday

Jilted John; B Bang Cider; MDC on Saturday

Graham fellows acoustic; Adolescents; Jello Biafra on Sunday

As well as my usual favourites; Dickies; 999; Damned; Ruts; Buzzcocks; Cravats; Dirtbox Disco etc etc...

But it does seem like our numbers are becoming increasingly depleted...

You won't see The Dickies- they clash with The Descendents.
I thought Chris was going?

"My" Chris can't make it, newly married / new job, but Fireman Chris I think is going - I'll drop him a line!

On the Dickies front - bugger!

Check out the brilliant new Descendents album;

Some controversy about their "bonus disc" title...

Louise Distras commented on this on her FB site too and apparently received some abuse (even from members of "punk" bands), which made me quite sad.  :(

As I understand it 'Spazz' in the U.S.A. is slang for an awkward or clumsy person and has no relation to anyone being physically disabled.
As George Bernard Shaw said: "England and America are two countries separated by a common language".

Yeah, I guess it was a misunderstanding. Still no reason for anyone to tell Louise she's a retard, bitch and worse.  >:(

I would just like to say yes I'm aware that sometimes words have different meanings in different countries and would like to thank all those intelligent people for providing such kind and insightful commentary such as calling me: PC FAG, RETARD, RETARDED TWAT, CUNT, SPAZZ, FUCKING HOMO, PUSSY, HIPPY, I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU, SUCK MY DICK, GO DIE, LIBTARD, BITCH, GO PLAY IN TRAFFIC. Special thanks to members of punk bands who have threatened my safety...

I think it's better for me not to know which bands...  ::)

Reminds me a bit of the guy who behaved like he was a "punk expert", but then made public comments which were quite right-wing, anti refugees etc.  >:(

Thanks to Rockula for clearing the misunderstanding up- shame Louis and louder than war didn't do their homework before commenting. Having said that the insults directed at Louise are disgraceful. Hopefully the controversy won't cover up the fact that it is a ridiculously great album.

So, it all kicks off again tomorrow - once again, without me. Regular reports please TUTS.

I wonder what the Subs will sound like with their latest guitarist? I'm sure Steve (Hi-Fi Spitfires) will do a grand job.

Have fun!!!

You'll get a report when it's over! That won't include a report on the Subs though as they clash with Brix Smith, then The Weirdos. Didn't know Steve had joined them- met him a couple of times last year, nice bloke plays with The Upstarts too. What happened to their last guitarist?

Just about recovered - musically the best Rebellion yet, great to see so many friends once again although sadly some notable absentees (hopefully to be corrected next year!)

THURSDAY
Addictive Philosophy a new band to me who I really enjoyed great fun ska influenced experimental punk
Pete Bentham & the Dinner Ladies; always enjoy his Kitchencore and he certainly seems to be building an audience
Pears; fantastic hardcore punk, actually a lot more hardcore than I suspected but certainly cleared any lingering cobwebs. First hearing of the weekend of 'Judy is a Punk'
CJ Ramone; first time for me in the once-off outdoor stage area. Enjoyable but really a tribute act but good to get a second outing of the day for  'Judy is a Punk'...
Flag; what can I say? It was Flag in the sunshine
Don Letts interview; he roamed the stage and covered ground he has been over many time before, but a great listen
TV Smith; on the big Ballroom stage. Sadly before, and after the gig never had a chance to chat to Tim, he was always so busy! Another stand-out show, first solo, and then with Leigh followed by Attila joining them and finally a fourth guy whose name escapes me but I remember seeing last year as well. Just a great show, with all the old favourites plus a new song 'No Hope Street'. How does TV keep it so fresh year after year?
The Descendants; really looking forward to this bunch but after 3 songs I realised I was bored and would probably enjoy the Dickies more...
The Dickies; great fun, but no Leonard! It seems he is in hospital... so they do a variety of Dickies songs with members apparently from the audience, some good, and some who should never be allowed near a mic.. Entertaining but not what I was expecting

FRIDAY
Fuckwits; OK but cannot remember much about their set...
Wonk Unit; wonderful fun in the sunshine, and after ahem too many pints with some new German friends, found myself dancing in the pit
Reagan Youth; excellent
Brix Smith interview; marriage to Mark E Smith did not sound too attractive; how did he pull her?!
Peter Hook interview; he came across really well and seems to get on with everyone other than New Order... great insights
Brix Smith & the Extricated; one of the highlights of the weekend, much better than expected. Great band and as well as her own stuff some Fall gems
Notsensibles; still in love with Maggie it seems
Weirdos; one of my 'must see' bands and they didn't disappoint
Romanas; great fun and the last airing of 'Judy is a punk' that I heard
Exploited; thought I would watch them for a change and they were pretty damn good
Buzzcocks; just caught the last songs but this year the sound was amazing and 'Never fallen in Love..'; 'I Don't Mind', 'Orgasm Addict' and finally 'Oh Shit' sounded stunning

SATURDAY
Spunk Volcano; fun but no where near as good as Dirtbox...
Graham Fellows interview, not funny but interesting interesting insights into the Manchester scene and Rabid records
B Bang Cider with Vom on drums; marvellous
Jilted John; worth it just for that song
London; recharged my batteries comfortably sitting watching in the Ballroom
Major Accident; joined Gareth for them, and they did a great set to a surprisingly young and enthusiastic crowd
Ruts DC; what can I say? The new songs fitted seamlessly with the old, a special gig
Spizz; just caught Captain Kirk at the end and had a bop
Glitter Band; the saxophonist looked like Young Mr Grace but they had me dancing great end to the night

SUNDAY
Dirtbox Disco; in the sunshine a large crowd and loads of laughs
Louise Distras saw them with Chris. She was great as ever but the band did not seem to add anything to the songs; a solo gig with band accompaniment
Here & Now; went for a couple of songs stayed for the lot. Does that make me a hippy?
Slaughter & the Dogs; enjoyable but..... guitar could have been higher in the mix and I wasn't wholly convinced
Adicts; just a great theatrical way to end the weekend
SLF; caught the last song; 'Alternative Ulster and it sounded great!

Maybe next year I might drink a little less, and saw a few less bands.... maybe

No, you're not a hippy, but there does seem to be a typo concerning Slaughter - shouldn't it read "absolutely brilliant"?

Cheers matey. I hope to keep you (somewhat) off the booze and in the venues next year!

Fuckwits; OK but cannot remember much about their set...
