Have we, between us, heard all of these? Several I don't recognise.

I heard a few of them live, certainly not all of them.
Some titles are very familiar (as he's played them at gigs for a couple of years already)!

I'm really looking forward to a "sound sample", so we'll get a glimpse of how the instrumentation/production sounds.

New to me are:
Satellites, Never Again Until The Next Time, Sunny Side Up & Last Lost Sheep.
Last time I heard it, Written Out had also been changed from the original version that had been played live.

We who wait for the perfect life... I surrender to the sugar crash in the Land of the overdose...
Back from the dead, I wish I could see clearly through the Atlantic Tunnel over to the True Believers...  ;D

Nice cover!

Looks a bit like the latest DTH album cover, it's the same label, thus the same cover art designer maybe?  :)

Now the memory isn't what it used to be but I did ask TV about the cover a few weeks ago. It's by a German art student whose tutor is the guy responsible for the "I Delete" cover art. I think TV's German promoter saw it at an exhibition but don't hold me to that!

Well, to me they do look a bit similar at first glance, but that's probably just because of a colourful image and white writing on a black background (yeah I'm an easy catch...):

Never mind, it is a good cover pic!

Cover is by Happi Müller, who's designed just about all my sleeves since "Useless." For those of you not watching the front page, you can get a little taster of the new album with a clip from new download single "No Hope Street" here http://werockwebzine.co.uk/tv-smith-releases-first-single-no-hope-street?platform=hootsuite

Wow!

I've been lucky enough to hear this song live several times, so I'm familiar with it's basic structure. I love the way the song, and subsequent verses start, with the acoustic guitar being joined by percussion and a fat bass with more layers of instrumentation (electric guitar and keyboards) building up into and over the chorus.

Many of TV's songs make me smile for various reasons, usually very clever lyrics, but I particularly enjoyed the right hand work on the percussive acoustic guitar around 2.05.

Many thanks for sharing this lovely taster for the album Tim - can't wait for it!

Happi Müller, indeed a familiar name when it comes to cover artwork (didn't he play bass on one of the albums too?)...

For those of you not watching the front page...

Well I did watch it from time to time, but not today.  :)

I still love to listen to this album (in the car, at home...)!

Some of TV's finest lyrics and best songs gathered here.

What do you think TUTS?

It's a TV Smith album - of course it's great!

Yeah, that's maybe the "problem" and the reason why people don't "discuss" much about the newer albums: we have been "spoiled" by TV with good albums. Since the "forming" of the TUTS (around 2001-02) we have seen so many good albums: Not A Bad Day, Misinformation Overload, In The Arms Of My Enemy, Coming In To Land, I Delete... (plus extras like live recordings, bloody Xmas singles, 80's demos...)!  :o

Are you from Swabia (like me)? Because it is a saying here: "not complaining is enough praise".  ;D

Gotta say, I love it when TV talks about his (new) songs in interviews:
Quote
What made you call the album The Land Of The Overdose?

I’m concerned about the idea that we are being manipulated into wanting more and more, even when we already have enough. It’s a fine line between being aspirational and just being greedy, and a rampant capitalist society encourages greed. We all know the dangers of a drug overdose, but an overdose of material things can be just as damaging – on you, and on the people around you.

What are some of the subjects your songs are about on this album?

Well, that’s the title track I was just talking about. There are a couple of songs about the internet: “We Stand Alone” is about how the pursuit of virtual friends can actually make you feel more isolated, “Green Zone” is about how our freedom to investigate the world through the internet is also a tool for information to be gathered about us and turned against us. “Written Out” asks the question about whether we have any influence to change ourselves and the world or if everything is pre-ordained, as some fundamentalist religious views would have us believe. Stop me if this is getting too serious.
