I was lucky to prelisten to a song or two.
This album is amazing.
This is everything what got me started into the TV Smith world back in the 90s.
The passion, the wisdom.
Pure TV Smith genius.  :)

Good 8/10 review in this month's Vive Le Rock plus a brief interview in the 77 remembered feature.

Review from LTW:

Quote
Stripped down to acoustic guitar and voice, TV Smith, 11 songs about the pandemic and surviving infection. A straight-forward but remarkable account, and a measure of what a great artist he is.

A good review, but I'd have to disagree on a few points.
I was lucky enough to hear all the new songs live and to be honest, although we can all empathise with the sentiments expressed, it's a very personal set of songs and I think adding a full band would take away from the intimacy of the subject matter. As well as the fact that it's topical and the quickest way to get the songs out is the way that it's been done.
Secondly, although the "slower acoustic mode" works really well for 'I Surf The Second Wave' (probably my favourite song), TV (as I guess we all are) is angry with the way that the pandemic has been handled and quite rightly so hence the "full on punk rock strumming".
Finally, I don't think TV would take too kindly to being compared with Julius Caesar! If a had to go with a Roman analogy I'd probably use Cicero.

(Numbers aren't quite right though - solo album #8 can't be correct.)

If you leave out compilations, re-recordings, demo albums and live albums I make it #9.

Depends if you count "Channel 5" or not - I would say it's #10 or #11.

Leave out C5?

Leave out C5?

What would Mr C5 say?!

TV SM!TH solo albums clearly include:

Channel Five;
March of the Giants;
Immortal Rich;
Generation Y;
Not A Bad Day;
Misinformation Overload;
In The Arms of My Enemy;
Coming in to Land;
I Delete;
Land of the Overdose; and - as of this very week -
Lockdown Holiday.

So that is indeed a grand total of eleven studio albums recorded as individual entities.

HOWEVER, these do not represent the entire canon of "TV SM!TH" solo songs due to various B-Sides, EP's, acoustic sessions, live recordings of songs from the band-eras, etc., etc., but the biggest conundrum facing the serious-minded TUT is how best to classify both "Sparkle in the Mud" and "Lucky Us". Should these be regarded as compilations or included in the list of TV SM!TH solo albums?

Is this an ecumenical matter requiring referral to the leader of the New Church? Let's find out!

Looks like we'll have to ask Pope Timothy.

From what I heard the UK batch of pre-orders might be a little delayed.  :(

Thanks @Fred for re-introducing the concept of "the list" to us!!

Definitely a compilation of old demos recorded way back when... but still "essential" and so many good songs!

(P.S.: Mr C5 would be shocked of course!)

I've never been '@Fred'-ed before! That's taken years off me!

On to more serious matters.

Re: The status of "Sparkle in the Mud" and "Lucky Us" in the TV SM!TH album canon:

Albums or compilations?

Compilations or albums?

Should we have a poll?

Should we have a poll about having a poll?

Is having a poll on this topic frivolous?

That number is clearly nowhere near right. That's a load of misinformation that I should delete!

I always associate the term 'compilation' with previously-released material, so are "Sparkle in the Mud" and "Lucky Us" collections rather than compilations?

They weren't recorded as distinct entities as the other albums were, but they largely consist of previously unreleased songs.

I'm sorry for @-ing at you Fred. More importantly, have you ever been "listed"?

Uh-erm, ok, let's call them "collections of previously unreleased demos / songs" (dust them off before use)!  ;D

That number is clearly nowhere near right. That's a load of misinformation that I should delete!

Boom boom!

Sorry Uli, but I'm afraid that I don't know what 'being listed' means.  :-[

However, on many occasions I have listed, usually to port, due to alcohol, arthritis or a combination of the two!  ;D

Neither do I. You just re-introduced "the list" to us (anyone remember Tj? have you ever been listed by him?)!  ;D
