Just heard that The Bell Rays are playing at The Railway pub in Southend soon.
I'll be doing that. And maybe the other one at Camden as well.
Last time they played it was at the 02 'bowling' thing and tickets were 25 or something.
This'll be about a tenner I reckon.
Never seen them live despite buying their albums for about 20 years.

Apart from that I've got tickets for The Members, Department S, Eddie & The Hotrods, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing, The Wolfhounds, The Mekons and Red Flag 77 which takes me up to about June. Also doing the TV Smith gig in Chelmsford (hopefully).

I'm sure they'll be more between June and Skegness in October.

Went to Southend last night.
My only show on this tour.
Excellent. Tight. And lifted so much by Paul Gray's bass.
Much 'Black Album' and 'Strawberries'. The Paul Gray albums obviously.
But even 'Eloise' sounded good and I hate that song usually. I still went for a piss when they were playing it though. It's my tradition.
Three songs from the new album which is all they're doing from it so far this tour.
Liked all three.
Encores included the rare 'B' side instrumental 'Seagulls'.
And, as a bonus, the final encore was 'Do Anything You Wanna Do' with Barrie Masters on vocals.
I suppose I should have guessed they might do that considering Barrie only lives a mile away.

And Captain referred to them as 'Eddie & The Hot Frogs'. :)

Steve Jones book.
Picked it up, started reading, couldn't put it down, finished in a day.
Excellent.

The 100 Club was excellent last night.

Only about 3/4 full but I always find that at this time of year. And no trains running in the East doesn't help. All the usual suspects in The Ship before hand. And a few people who came over 'cause of Arturo's Lurker's cancelling their gig at the New Cross Inn.

The Featherz are now a 5 piece and have a fuller sound but still have half a set of covers. They entertained. Mass sing-a-long top Bowie's 'Moonage Daydream'. And, incidentally, Danie is the guest vocalist on the new single by the 'other' Lurkers (Pete Stride, Nigel Moore & Esso). It's out on 'Human Punk' records and they were the promoters of tonight's gig.

On Trial were as punk as On Trial always are. Nice set. They're 4 albums in now and a 5th due.

London SS made the 100 Club feel like we'd been transported back to New York in 1973 or something. Surprisingly good especially 'Sick On You', and as guitarist Eunan Brady played on the original Hollywood Brats version a bit of a treat. Obviously none of the more famous original members but a good band nonetheless. I bought their EP of original songs and I'll be giving that a spin once I've woken up a bit.

The Members were really tight with 'new boy' Calle Engelmarc's guitar giving the old songs a new 'oomph' and his input bodes well for the new studio stuff to come. Nice new 'best off' CD/album which finally sees ALL their 7" singles for different labels on one release.

And a quick journey home saw us indoors by 12.30. And when the Elizabeth Line opens we'll be able to do 'door to door' in 37 minutes. That'll be nice. :)

Chuck Mosley.
Original singer for Faith No More and a couple of years in Bad Brains.

Watched all of 'Tin Star' in one day.
Started intriguing, got depressing and I had to fast-forward through the last three episodes just to get it over with.

Now half way through 'The Sinner' which is equally as 'dark' but I haven't felt the need to hit the fast-forward yet.

The Members, The London SS, The Featherz, On Trial UK and, erm, Gene Putney? Saturday at The 100 Club.

Then seeing The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing both on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th.

A gap until 23rd December when it's Ruts DC and Department S. Again At The 100 Club.

And another gap until 20th January when it's TV and Dr. Feelgood at The Borderline.

Knowing how it's gone in previous years I'll probably end up at 3 or 4 other gigs that I hadn't planned for over the period that I usually say I'm staying in for.
It never works out that I actually stay in.
