TV Chat / charts and labels

what sort of music is in the german charts, is it the same sot of stuff as over here or is it different? :?

I'd say to at least 90% it's the same crap :!:
The other 9% are other German crap...
Maybe 1% is listenable to my ears.

Not sure about the labels, hippiedave. There are good indie labels in both Germany and UK, I think.

TV Chat / punk rock

Thank gawd it is typical TV.
This seems to be the way a lot of people think about TV and his music.
It would be interesting to find out, how innovative and new the guy's music has been, so far.
A lot of people are always trying to find something new etc. I am pretty sure, that nowadays if someone thinks some music is something completely new, he is just unaware of the musicians that did something similar before. I bet, in most cases you will find a lot of people who would say: Hey, that's been done bay that band/singer whatever before.

What is really missing nowadays in music is passion.
And it's definitely no lie to claim, that TV is very innovative in combining brilliant lyrics with catchy tunes and absolute passion.

I totally agree :!:
The guy I was talking about is more into punkrock, I guess (e.g. he told me he disliked "March of the Giants", but liked "Gen. Y"), so I think "Not in my name" was musically just too "acoustic" for him...

TV Live / Jobs
« on: February 24, 2003, 10:37:00 AM »
Oh, Fleagle, psychiatric nurse, isn't that what Monty Oxymoron (keyboarder in The Damned) also did :?:
I haven't had such a long career of jobs. Right now I do work in my dad's manufacture for orthopedical things...
Before that I had a job as a sort of "printer" (I don't know the English word, in German it was "Siebdruck"). For a very short time I was working in a shop (medical supply etc.), but that was very boring and an absolutely awful time in my life (even though it was only for a few weeks)...

World Chat / Wow!

Wow! I'd been on there recently but hadn't noticed this. There was a post on the Message Board, but it soon moved out of the way...
Great to hear Captain is recommending this. :)

TV Chat / Re: Pass It On

Have you passed on a chain email message to anyone m8 :?:

Have you posted the songs details on any other artists sites :?: and ask people their to pass the message on :?:

Come on Uli, you know I'm not really lazy

I know, I know... :)
I haven't passed on a "chain message" as I'd already sent out e-mails about the download. In most cases I'd included sentences from TV's newsletter which make clear that the song should be passed on etc. So I didn't see the point of sending out another message to the same people (those who didn't mind the first one wouldn't mind the second one anyway or even start to get annoyed)... Some of these people only e-mail me once or twice a year anyway, so I didn't really expect to get a reply. Hopefully they downloaded the song and told it other people. If not, they're the lazy boring bastards I already thought they were...

I'd wanted to post this on the Damned message board, where it was already posted! But I told you the story in another thread...

The one guy who reacted very positively has indeed passed it on and told me he received a positive reaction from another guy who himself passed it on to more people. And that was great to hear!  :D

I chatted to the singer of a German punk rock band on Saturday 15 th, he told me he liked the lyrics, but the music just seemed nothing really "new" to him, he saw it as "typical" TV...

Thanks Uli which were your favourite photo's :?:

Uh, that's going to be difficult as I'd have to remember each and every photo from your list :!:  Or I'd have to look at them again...

Well, I remember the smurf one very well, that was good. And Sing-along-a-TUTS and TV and "cute" Jock were also good ones :!:

TV Chat / strong views
« on: February 22, 2003, 04:04:39 PM »
Markus certainly has strong views - but the worrying thing is that he's actually right with most things he said :!:  :o
I heard it from other sources about Bush being paid by companies for his "decisions"...
It's true, something should be done about such things, also environment, fair trade etc.
The injustice in the world has led to Sept.11 events (it's always poor people with no perspective who can be driven to do such things) :!:  THAT's what our "leaders" like Bush, Blair etc. should do something about. And we should TELL them to do it...
Honest, I sometimes like watching telly too or sit lazy on my couch, but I'll try to get my point across to politicians etc., e.g. by writing letters, etc. There's a lot you can do, even if it seems useless, if one person's mind is changed it will be worth it. Even posting in such a forum like this can have a little effect!

TV Chat / UK - Germany
« on: February 22, 2003, 03:49:08 PM »
Well, TJ, actually TV is a UK artist, so of course he should have it easier there :?:
Also I'd like to point out that JKP (who released "Useless") is owned by Die Toten Hosen members, so of course they would release the record they were actually playing on (also I heard it was Campino's idea to release a Best Of TV album anyway) :!:
So I guess that's the reason why this CD was released in Germany, not really because german record companies do know better than British ones :!:  8O

I hope TV can find a decent label to release "Not A Bad Day". I'm not even expecting them to do a video for a single, but promotion should be done at least in form of CD's being sent to music mags, radio stations etc. The difficult thing is to get the message to the right people who would buy it...

TV Chat / one real reaction
« on: February 22, 2003, 03:37:34 PM »
Well, I e-mailed the news about the download to most people in my address book, but only one has replied about the song :!:
He liked it. All others I spoke to (or wrote to) are people who come to TV's homepage regularly and would download it anyway...

TV Chat / Fox and Hounds
« on: February 22, 2003, 03:33:38 PM »
Hey mrs fleagle, Fox and Hounds sounds familiar (already thought that when I visited that link you'd given recently here), is it possible that I was there :?:
I'm getting very thirsty for a Guinness now, but I guess I won't make it to this pub today!

actually markus is an OK bloke .... allthough slightly mad

His posts sound like he's mad...  :x
But he's sent me a few private messages which sounded OK :!:

TV Live / safety pins
« on: February 22, 2003, 03:26:25 PM »
Don't worry Tj, don't be sad. Mr C5's review is excellent considering the fact that he wasn't there :!:  :D

Jon, another Spanish band I know is Safety Pins! I never saw them perform in their own right, but I saw them as backing band for Sonny Vincent (great bloke), which was good! And Aiky (guitar) is very cool... :)
What do you think about them?

TV Live / pics
« on: February 21, 2003, 09:46:11 AM »
Actually I had a look at the TUTS pics, but somehow I'd missed this post here...
Also of course I'd seen most of the pics before during the year in the gig photos section. Nice list once again... :)

TV Live / K. Barbies

Actually, while TV Smith and his colleagues were turning the UK upside down, I was still sucking my mum's tits!  :P

I did not, but I was just starting school in '76...  :)

Quote from: "bbquattro"

We're often compared to The Killer Barbies because our songs are melodic and we have a gorgeous frontwoman, hahaha.

To tell the truth, I don't like being compared to them. It's not that they were a fake band, which they weren't, but I never BELIEVED them, I don't know...

I'd like to think we're a cross between Nikki & The Corvettes, The Rubinoos, The Beach Boys and the Sex Pistols, hahaha, of course, with a little Adverts on that! Hahaha.

I don't know, we do our thing, we love doing it, check it out for yourself! We may be touring Germany last week of July and play the Peesten Open Air Festival...

Sounds good about doing your own thing! Of course you can't avoid being compared to Killer Barbies as your band has a frontwoman too, this of course was also my way of thinking (sad, I know...)!
If you'll come anywhere close to South Germany in July, I really might check you out :!:
I like melodic punkrock, so I guess I would enjoy it...  :)

TJ, you are so lazy these days that other people who weren't there have to do your gig reviews!

TV Live / good idea
« on: February 20, 2003, 10:18:20 PM »
That's a good idea Class of 79, only problem is that I got only a few songs by TV on video... Maybe I should turn to some live recordings or the studio CD's! Beer is in the house!!  :D

Fleagle, what do you mean with quality? My posts are always very good quality, full of wise words etc. bla bla....

bbquattro, so you were no member of Jefferson Starship in the 70's :?:
Getting back to seriousness now: right now the only Spanish punk group that I can remember seeing live, was the Killer Barbies, do you know them? Is their sound similar to the one your group is making? Just gettin' curious...  :)
