Kaenga, I think they're talking about the old Ultravox here, with John Foxx, before they got Ure'd...

I never saw the Manics live, but I kinda liked some of their songs. So if the Best Of CD is really that good I might buy it...

Yeah, Hippie Dave wasn't here for a long time? Did you ask him why he stopped posting?

The only thing I know about John Foxx is him working with Anne Clark in the 80's (I think)... Saw Anne on her Acoustic tour recently and I liked it a lot.

Good to hear that! I've hoped for more TV dates anyway and together with Garden Gang will be especially nice...  :)

Unfortunately none of their gigs are any close to here...
I'd have watched them again, as I liked them as support band for TV in Tübingen a year ago. Apparently it's easier for them to get gigs way up north than down here where they live (apart from their hometown Munich)...  :(

Concerning the lyrics and all the other stuff, Lari should just browse through the comments here... Plenty of ideas, material etc.!

Hi Uli

TV is good to listen to when ironing

Also good to listen to when gardening then the neighbours can share his great music, they usualy listen to golden oldies so they need re-educating

Not when vacuming though because you can't here the songs

Mrs Fleagle

Thanks, Mrs Fleagle for this in-depth study on TV's music as background to housework!  :)

You're right, unfortunately it is not good for vacuum cleaning. (Maybe some Industrial music turned up loud would be apt?)

JS, I like to listen to TV in the car too. I even made kind of a "best of" tape for the car...

Usually I don't listen to TV while doing something else (apart from driving), most of the time I really want to listen and not be distracted, because many of his songs are important to me...

Thanks Uli. :D
Maybe I should put a link on the homepage to a short description of
TV's work. Similar to your post.

Let's see if Stevo returns to the forum in order to read any replies to his post.

Klaus

Let's hope he will return :!:  Otherwise all my typing was useless!

Don't know about rockstars, but I would like to know if TV's music is apt for listening while cleaning the house! Any housewives here who listen to TV :?:

TV Chat / NMA

TJ, I also did miss Justin Sullivan's solo gig in Stuttgart earlier this year, though more out of laziness instead of other commitments...

It would have been interesting I guess, because if my former theory that TV sounds like NMA stripped down to voice & guitar is right, a solo show of Justin would have to sound like TV...
But I guess it doesn't. Does anyone know :?:

Couldn't think of any other comparisons (yet), the same applies for your other topics concerning Cheap, Explorers & Adverts.
Has anyone else got any  ?

TV Chat / comparisons
« on: November 17, 2002, 06:21:09 PM »
It's always diffiuclt to compare musicians, especially individual ones like TV Smith :!:
When I first heard him live, it really reminded me a little bit of New Model Army, but stripped down to voice and guitar...
Meanwhile I don't think so anymore, 'cause TV has as much as his own style.
When I first heard the start of "Expensive Being Poor" on the "Generation Y" CD I thought that Waterboys fans might like this! I played the CD to a friend (who listens to the likes of Stranglers, Waterboys and others) and he went and bought the CD himself! Meanwhile he's been with me at 3 TV gigs...

I do know Nick Cave, but TV never reminded me in any ways of his music.
Don't know about Bob Dylan, at least we might say that TV's lyrics are as wise and sharp as his :!:

One other artist doing something similar (to my ears) is Attila The Stockbroker. Although this won't help too much, as most people who don't know TV won't know Attila either...
