Bugs & Tips / Posting today
« on: May 20, 2002, 12:58:39 PM »
Had lots of problem today in adding replies, even though I did accept all cookies! Got strange error messages and my posts were lost and I had to re-write them...  :(

If possible, I'd like to see lyrics to "Luxury In Exile"!

TV Chat / 44?

I hope it will work! If not, I guess 44 would be okay for you?  :)

Hmmmm, as I'm planning to spend some time in UK anyway, I might as well go to Blackpool... Maybe...

If you want that many songs, you'd have to:
1.: carefully turn the place into a good gig atmosphere (is The Verge a good place for such a gig?) ...
2.: cheer a lot and let TV feel well on stage!
3.: listen to his songs and the things he says about them!
4.: give TV an energy drink (Guinness?) if he seems to get tired!
5.: if this all doesn't help, take a few huge-built friends and don't allow TV to leave the stage! 8)

TV Chat / Dallas
« on: May 19, 2002, 02:54:15 PM »
Oh TJ, I'm so glad that the Dallas reference was a joke, I never liked both Dallas and Dynasty!
Klaus, I also probably wouldn't enjoy Miami Vice anymore if I'd watch a repeat. I guess that kind of entertainment was okay when I was 17 years old, but now it would be hard to admit watching this...

Glad we're all no tossers or saddos, even if we watch television...
But I must admit I'd rather watch TV Smith play than staring into the idiot box!

TV Chat / ticket prices
« on: May 19, 2002, 02:37:32 PM »
Jock, that really sounds like a rip-off...
But as a fan, I would be there too, buying the overpriced beer etc.! Of course you always get ripped off at gigs, but they shouldn't go too far... I guess The Damned tickets will be a bit cheaper.
And btw, if TV needs anyone to carry his guitar in Blackpool, I'd do it!

TV Chat / My first TV gig

Klaus, I'm trying to remember: I think it was November 25th, not totally sure, but around that date. When he played Tübingen last year, it was almost exactly two years ago!
I remember well how I read in Time Out that TV Smith would be playing Upstairs at the Garage, so I decided to check out what he's doing nowadays (of course I hoped to hear a few old Adverts songs)! When I arrived not many people were there yet, but I recognised Gaye near the bar! There was a man who put the guitar on the stage, so I thought he must be TV (it's difficult to recognise him if you only know old Adverts photos)! Later I watched him putting on another CD (the one playing before was Pink Floyd's first album, which I enjoyed), then he came up to me and we chatted a bit about Pink Floyd, when he realised I was german he introduced me to Viola (who had just arrived)...
The gig was great, I became an instant fan, I loved the new songs and I also got to hear the Adverts songs I'd hoped for (especially Safety In Numbers!). Two days later I was in Brighton and watched TV in Southwick. I'll never forget these days, great time I had there! :D
I always loved London since my first visit in 1992 (accidentally I saw a Tote Hosen gig then, it was them who brought me to the Adverts in a way, so some circles have been closed in a way...)!

32 pounds for the Pistols gig, isn't that a bit much, even for 5 bands playing? (If concerts are that 'cheap' in London I'll have to save a lot of money till July...)  :o

Guess, TV never watched television a lot.

And rightly so, actually!!!
I did watch some television and I liked Magnum and Miami Vice back in the 80's! Magnum, a red Ferrari, beer and Hawaii, you can't beat that, ha ha... Miami Vice sometimes had good music in it...

I still sometimes watch, but most of the time I get extremely bored (if it's not a very good film), I can't count anymore how often I turned the shit off and put on some good music...

TV Chat / concerts etc.

Thanx for your report about the Pistols, of course I hope they're still great live. I met some people who saw them in '96, most of them didn't seem to regret it at least. (One of them played the live album to me, it sounded quite okay...) They WILL do the Bollocks stuff for sure (what else are they legends for?)!
Has Blackpool a good set of bands this year? I never went, 'cause this kind of nostalgia isn't worth me travelling for miles, even though I'm sure I would like some of the bands there.
Yeah, I can't wait anymore till I get to see The Damned again, it's been almost two years now since their German tour (I watched 3 gigs and one was among the best I'd ever seen). They seem to be at another peak in their long career with that great new album. Maybe they'll be touring Germany later in the year but I still plan a trip to London to see them and possibly a few other concerts.
I always find something interesting in London, btw that's how I found out about TV Smith, I just went to his gig in late '99, which turned me into a big fan (I'd only known the Adverts and Cheap CD's up to then)!

TV Chat / Pistols and others
« on: May 15, 2002, 08:15:55 AM »
Hi Jock,
no problem, I can see your point, too!
i just think that the Pistols are a bit (!) overrated. They only did one album plus a few extra songs (some good, some not). Yet they were offered millions for reunions while the bands who kept punk music alive by records and touring (e.g. Ramones, Damned and others) weren't getting such amounts. (That's showbiz...)
And you know, it seems a little bit like the Pistols turn into those boring old farts playing their old stuff, something they despised so much when they started out.

I think it has a bit of relevance if people in a band get on or not because I guess the music gets better if they understand each other! But on the other hand, maybe the Pistols' music gets better if they hate each other...
I read an interview with John Lydon in which he said about the '96 tour that he regretted his decision to do it about halfway through! Apparently he went up to the others and told them that he doesn't like them and they told him that they dislike him too! He complained that no-one said goodbye to him after the last show of the tour... Not the best circumstances for a friendly reunion! But I guess a one-off show is better for them than a whole tour.
I understand you (and many others) wanna see them once again (or for the first time). Probably I'll be in London in July, maybe I'd go and see the Pistols if there wasn't another gig (The Cure) on the same day (it was July 27th, right?)...
Actually I wanna go and see The Damned (I really love the new album and wanna hear the songs live), they seem to be getting on still (yeah, it's not the original line-up...)!
Of course I hope that the Pistols tickets will sell and you will enjoy the show!  :)

TV Live / Hamburg
« on: May 14, 2002, 05:38:07 PM »
Have to tell you quickly: Viola sent me a mail, Hamburg went well even though there weren't too many people in, TV played 41 songs (again)!! He seems to be in good form!  :)

TV Chat / Old socks!
« on: May 14, 2002, 05:00:54 PM »
Quote from: "Klaus"

When the Pistols already are old socks, TV's still around doing his thing, I am sure. :D

Don't you think the Pistols ARE old socks already now??
Tv seems to be at a peak, when you look at how long he is playing at his current shows! (How many new songs will the Pistols be offering? None, they didn't get on in '77, they didn't like each other in '96, they will still not get on in '02...)
But I can understand people wanting to see them (for the first time or one more time).  :)

TV Chat / Channel 5
« on: May 14, 2002, 10:30:05 AM »
No, you're not boring (yet)! Btw, I ordered my Channel 5 copy from Ozitrecords, hope it will arrive soon. I listened to the album from another fan two years ago, as I said before I wasn't completely knocked out by it, but of course I buy it because I want to be "complete" with TV's albums and your "promotion" for this album on here has worked in a way too... (But I'm not sure if I will ever view it as his greatest moment.) Don't worry, if I don't like it at first, I will give it more listens before condemning it!
