Well played Ireland.

Phil - see you for a pint down at the "What Could Have Been Arms"?

That's my regular pub..  I was unusual not going there during the Euros.

Great atmosphere last night, played well but just needed that extra bit.  At least it wasn't a draw as we still would have gone out of the tournament.

Went to see "War Horse" last night.

What's that?

It is a play, and Book, and Film.

It is a story about a horse during WW1.    Worth having a look at..  but I dare you to refrain from tissues...  it is very moving!!!

Speaking to TV last weekend, he said that he wasn't doing the full UK Subs tour in 2018 (obviously apart from the selected ones with the B.T.s) as he wanted to spend the time concentrating on the new album.

Alright, thanks for this piece of "album news"!  8)
So now we do know he won't be support on the whole UK Subs tour this time.
.

Even better a 2018 gig list so that pencils etc can be ordered.....

Playing on the CD thingy in our car at present (well not as "present", as I am the office and the car is in the car park..  Just let me get that one in before Fred gets pedantic!!!)..  is Suzt & Los Quartos.

Now Mrs Taff quite likes them  and ask me how TV & L.Q.. first got together, also the meeting of TV & Vom was mentioned..

I am sure that there was an interview with Vom on the site somewhere, but I cant find it at the mo.

Any helpers please....

World Chat / Re: Gig reviews & who are you going to see next (other than...)

I got to Rock City nice and early last night to get a spot on the front barrier and struck up a conversation with Shaun who was back in his hometown for family reasons. Much reminiscing about old punk bands, etc. ensued…

The Angelic Upstarts played a 45 minute set filled with most, but not all, of their “hits”. Surprisingly good and MUCH improved since the last time I saw them when Mensi filled half their stage time with long, rambling “chats” between songs that made Jake Burns’ song introductions seem brief! Anyway… good stuff.

There was a quick turnaround for an 8.30 start (club night to follow the gig – curfew at 10 PM) and The Skids entered to a belting version of “Animation”. Richard Jobson still does his characteristic “dancing” (“I call it movement” he said) and displayed as much enthusiasm and energy as the last time I saw them back in 1980 at the Glasgow Apollo.

Only Richard Jobson and Mike Bailey remain from that line up, although original bassist Bill Simpson (who looks a lot like Phil/EKTAFF from this very forum – and you never see them together in the same room at the same time) was back in the fold. Guitar was supplied by Bruce Watson (Stuart Adamson’s rhythm guitarist in the awful Big Country) and his son Jamie (who looks a hell of a lot like Alan’s son, Chris Smith – and you never see them together in the same room at the same time either!). Actually, Richard ripped the piss out of him by introducing him as Ed Sheeran before leading the audience in TWO choruses of “Ed Sheeran is a wanker” – I don’t think he likes Ed!

Between them, the Watson’s did a much better job that I feared having seen/heard some of their earlier efforts on TV/YouTube, etc. I do wish Bruce would have a bit more fun though – he obviously finds those guitar parts very tricky as he does stand and stare at his fingers when he’s playing and I hate that. The place for “perfection” is in the studio – make the odd mistake and put in more energy live please!

Anyway… The set consisted of most, but not all, of their hits (e.g. no Sweet Suburbia, Goodbye Civilian, etc.) and some cracking album tracks. Richard said that they had been looking forward to playing at the “Legendary Rock City and that they wanted to rip the roof off!” Given what was a very healthy crowd for a summer gig (eventually – I don’t think the early club night-related start helped) they damn near achieved this. The main set closed and the band were quickly encouraged back on stage by the Nottingham crowd’s rousing rendition of “Woman in Winter” for an encore including the legendary “TV Stars (ALBERT TATLOCK!)”. The “Woman in Winter” trick worked again and they returned to play “Of One Skin” again – “We haven’t learned enough Skids songs!” said Richard, before promising a return next year to support their new album (of which nothing was played last night). And with that, the 10 PM curfew had passed and Shaun and I went round the corner to The Rescue Rooms where much reminiscing about old punk bands, etc. continued…

I give you a "passing resemblance"

I can feel the passport itching to get out for a trip...

Would be nice to see you in Stuttgart - or is that too far?

It will depend on what is prograamed for the rest of the tour.  Have you seen any other dates/venues???

me and Mrs S are off on a short break soon and by complete coincidence, Tim is playing 5 minutes away from the hotel we'll be staying at!

Yeah yeah, she may believe you, but we...  :P  ;)

She doesn't believe me!  :D

I like Scunthorpe.

and before/after with UK Subs again?

Which is what a mate & me wondered during a phone call recently... he suggested that the "special guest" might be UK Subs, but I said "certainly not", because Goldmark's is too small for UK Subs (they always play the "Universum" in the same building), also TV was their "special guest", not vice versa.
Anyway, I guess if the UK Subs tour (again) with TV it will be January/early February (and probably not in Stuttgart, as they were here this year) and then afterwards will be a BT tour!  8)

Treatment from British Airways reached a new low yesterday. After three great gigs in Germany I flew back from Stuttgart airport and encountered a BA employee called Mr Caruso who took an instant dislike to me and decided to try and stop me taking my guitar on board. My partner and I had no other hand luggage, the guitar fits easily into the overhead lockers and takes up less space than two carry-on bags. When I explained this and insisted I wanted to take it with me to the plane and let the on-board crew decide, Mr Caruso called the police in, and said he wasn't going to let me fly. When I - politely - asked him to justify this, he then told me he could smell alcohol on my breath. The only thing that had passed my lips all day was water and two cups of coffee. The end result was that the rest of the plane boarded past me and my partner flanked by two burly armed policemen. For no other reason than the fact I wanted to take my guitar with me on the plane I was publicly humiliated, intimidated, accused of being a drunk, and treated as a criminal in front of all the other passengers. Eventually I was led down to the plane by a member of the ground crew, and the on-board BA staff were absolutely lovely and only too happy to find a place to tuck away the guitar - as usual. But any musicians travelling through Stuttgart airport on BA - beware. You may encounter the charming Mr Caruso, who should never be dealing with the public, and in my opinion should be relieved of his job before he causes any more distress to innocent passengers and does the reputation of the company he works for any more damage.

Sadly, I did not know of any gigs near Stuttgart (?), possibly "secret/private shows" or he just flew back from Stuttgart despite the gigs not being nearby...  ???
Needless to say: don't fly with BA from Stuttgart.  >:(

I have just heard that Mr Caruso has been transferred..  to Dusseldorf..

Maybe I got that wrong (bit deaf after last night's punk gig), but that should be interesting!  ;D  ;)

Now that would be good.  Must get a photo of it (on the other hand, no point... I can't post them without help!!!!)
