World Chat / Re: The TUTS Cinema, DVD & TV Box > What Are You Watching This Week?

Last night I watched "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri". Pretty dark one, dark humour, but also difficult to take.

However, some people have strange problems:

Quote
When the movie begins, it's easy to surmise the audience is expected to identify with, and root for, McDormand's grieving mother, who puts up the billboards demanding justice for her murdered daughter. Yet as the story progresses, she proceeds to do a number of terrible things in her conviction about the righteousness of her cause, in a way that makes her less sympathetic.

Similarly, one can argue that Dixon's noble act doesn't change who he is in any significant way. He simply demonstrates himself capable of doing the right thing under certain circumstances.

Imho that's exactly what makes this film different and interesting.

(Some Americans seemingly have problems when anything isn't typical "Hollywood"-style...)  ::)

Went to Southend last night.
Excellent. Tight. And lifted so much by Paul Gray's bass.
Much 'Black Album' and 'Strawberries'. The Paul Gray albums obviously.

Thanks for your review. That's how I imagined it to be.  :)

Just heard that The Bell Rays are playing at The Railway pub in Southend soon.
Never seen them live despite buying their albums for about 20 years.

They've played in Stuttgart quite a few times, but I never bought their albums.
I was interested, but I didn't get round to seeing them until 2012, when they were supported by (local band) The Nerves!
That was a good gig! Great band.

The singer announced 'little girl' in Newcastle but Cheetah said he hated it, so they did call on you instead.

Well that explains that then!

Cheetah was VERY happy last night.

Why?

During the encore section, during some chat between band and crowd, one young lad shouted - "I'm going to start a band because of you! Because of THIS gig! You're inspirational". It brought the house down and no fewer than three thumbs up's from Mr Chrome!

I'll be doing that. And maybe the other one at Camden as well.
Last time they played it was at the 02 'bowling' thing and tickets were 25 or something.
This'll be about a tenner I reckon.
Never seen them live despite buying their albums for about 20 years.

Apart from that I've got tickets for The Members, Department S, Eddie & The Hotrods, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing, The Wolfhounds, The Mekons and Red Flag 77 which takes me up to about June. Also doing the TV Smith gig in Chelmsford (hopefully).

I'm sure they'll be more between June and Skegness in October.

Went to Southend last night.
My only show on this tour.
Excellent. Tight. And lifted so much by Paul Gray's bass.
Much 'Black Album' and 'Strawberries'. The Paul Gray albums obviously.
But even 'Eloise' sounded good and I hate that song usually. I still went for a piss when they were playing it though. It's my tradition.
Three songs from the new album which is all they're doing from it so far this tour.
Liked all three.
Encores included the rare 'B' side instrumental 'Seagulls'.
And, as a bonus, the final encore was 'Do Anything You Wanna Do' with Barrie Masters on vocals.
I suppose I should have guessed they might do that considering Barrie only lives a mile away.

And Captain referred to them as 'Eddie & The Hot Frogs'. :)
