Since the days of The Adverts, TV Smith has been the suport act for quite a number of other artists. So who do you think TV should be the support act for? Who would fit? Whose audience do you think he could win over?
Seeing as The Adverts played with Iggy Pop and also The Damned, I think it would be quite good to see TV with one of these again. Especially with all the praise TV has received on the Official Damned Message Board lately (e.g. for the NABD album and his gig with 999), I think another tour supporting The Damned should go quite well :!:
I'm sure there must be some bands which would be prepared to take him along on a tour. (Of course, a TV solo tour is better for us fans, I know.) For example The Waterboys were also a possibility. What do you TUTS think :?:

Great  for a post Uli. I don't think TV makes enough out of this. As the recent 999 gig showed TV can really win over almost any audience.
I once talked to TV about this. At first he was pretty keen, then after seing Captain Sensible stick a banana 'where the sun don't shine' on stage he went off the idea a little.
 Maybe if they promise not to chase him with a banana he will agree to support them.
C5 and I were recently discussing the possibility of TV supporting The Alarm.
This of course would give Fred the great thrill of walking out of the gig just as Mike walks onto the stage.

Yeah, I think that TV could win over most audiences (apart from maybe boygroup/hiphop fans etc.)... I once talked to TV about this. At first he was pretty keen, then after seing Captain Sensible stick a banana 'where the sun don't shine' on stage he went off the idea a little.
Oh well, the Captain doesn't always do this! I've seen quite a few Damned gigs between '98 and '02 and Captain hasn't had a banana on stage. He was to be seen naked sometimes tho. But I guess you get used to it. As Damned bassist Patricia Morrison said it becomes "normal": "play some music, naked dancing man appears"... C5 and I were recently discussing the possibility of TV supporting The Alarm.
This of course would give Fred the great thrill of walking out of the gig just as Mike walks onto the stage. Not a bad idea, especially as Mike Peters seems to like TV and his music (as you told us here)...

So who do you think TV should be the support act for? I don´t like TV being the support. He´s always the main act for me When TV gets off stage it´s time for me to go home (or to the bar)

If he had to be support ( BOO ..HISSSSSS ! ) then the Damned would be my choice ...but then again why not have the Damned support TV !
TV CAN win over ANY audience , after seeing him at the 1996 HITS festival , where he won the hearts and respect from every person in that hall for playing an accoustic set , which, to many was the first time they'd seen an accoustic set at a punk gig .
Hes top man , couldnt be better if he tried ...or could he ?

He´s always the main act for me Yeah, I mentioned before (see above) that of course for us it's better to have a TV headline tour, however this post was about what TJ says: To let those not allready in the know, know how awesome The Great Man truely is. Or in other words: let TV have a bigger audience from time to time...

These bands always gig together at Xmas. I have previously suggested to TV that he should open the show for them but he felt 20-30 mins wasn't a good move for him. You've got to see his point...

Ooops, someone comes up with band names! These bands always gig together at Xmas. I have previously suggested to TV that he should open the show for them but he felt 20-30 mins wasn't a good move for him. You've got to see his point... Well, but with 999 he apparently played only 30 mins and many people enjoyed it (see other thread w/ quotes from Damned fans)... So maybe he should do it, would be a good excuse to play "Xmas Bloody Xmas".

As a musician, I have to state that in my humble oppinion the fact of playing before other acts can't always be refered to as being "the opening act". Lots of times it's just a couple of bands/artists being in the same bill.
With TV Smith in Spain we've done all kinds of order changes on different shows depending on a lot of factors, mainly the kind of audience, club or festival, mood of that night, timings...

Really agree with that, Jonathan. In the end, it's all about what's good and what isn't. Why shouldn't good bands play all the way through the evening? The music business convention that the "good" band plays at the end of the show is particularly strong here in the U.K. because the scene is very much in control of the music business - promoting their money-making puppets. One of the most impressive TV Smith gigs I ever witnessed: TV as special guest at the Christmas gig - Düsseldorf Tor 3 on 21. Dec 2001. Must have been 30-40 minutes. I'll never forget the version of 'Generation Y' on that night. And even next day's papers said that TV was the real star of that night. But, of course, a great part of the audience knew TV and therefor it was easier for him. It's a complete different and much more difficult thing when the audience never heard of the artist before.
