Some time ago I started a series of posts about the 10 Character Traits For Success In Life and how they link in with TV Smith’s songs. One of those traits is COURAGE and TV wrote a song for The Explorers second album, sadly never recorded, called Be Brave. It’s the first time that TV sang about fighting against the flow, especially if it is rolling you, like a river, down the wrong direction.

“We are alive and we can swim against the tide, not just swim along.” Be Brave

Courage and bravery is not just about a waving flag whilst standing defiantly in front of an oncoming tank or a mountaineer placing the flag on top of a virgin mountain summit or the heroics of Nelson Mandela or the heroics real life John Wayne’s and Robin Hood’s. It is also about doing daring to do something outside of your own comfort zone.

“Always be brave, be brave, put on a brave face.” Be Brave

Being Brave is also about daring to speak out against injustice…

Here are a  few brief quotes from two segments from the set that TV performed on Radio WFMU in the USA in March 2003

"I don’t like to see the most powerful people flaunting their power. It’s a bad example to everyone else."

"I’m really shocked to see how our Government has followed Bush’s Government into this evil attack on Iraq."

"I’m ashamed of the British Government and I’m ashamed of the American Government."

"What’s great about criticising Governments is that you find out that people are basically the same from all countries."
