Complaints about the new forum!
« on: March 17, 2002, 02:08:15 PM »
Hello everybody!

In a few weeks I will put up a poll on the forums. All of you will have the chance to say No or Yes to the new forum.

Anyone likes this forum? Any positive postings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Klaus

------------------

My message from the old forum:

Hi Uli,

that's exactly what I feared.
People look at the new forum and too quickly come to the conclusion that this all is too complicated and stuff...

If you really use the features it offers, you won't miss any messages that are interesting to you. I got complainings about the old forum, that when someone answered to an older topic, most of the visitors wouldn't find that message as there was no way to find out easily that there has been an answer to the post. You really had to go through the whole list and search for any new messages. That is annoying!

You don't have to register in order to post!

But if you register, everytime you log in, you can click the link on the upper right called 'View posts since last visit' and you 'obviously' get a list of all posts which have been made since your last visit. That's fantastic and time-saving. No clicking through needed!

The different forums are useful in many ways. A few days ago someone posted a message in the old forum, where he was looking for someone to trade stuff. Now the post is somewhere down in the list and will soon be neglected completely.
In the new forum you can post it in a dedicated forum and everyone who is interested in trading things etc. knows where to look.

Just take a little time to learn how to use those nice little features which in fact will make people come back more often, I am sure.

Klaus

Hi Klaus and Uli,

Tricky, sticky one this.

I really, really loved the old forum. I must admit that I got my voting wrong. I thought we were voting on the site not the Forum (I thought it was called the Communication Board.) What I liked was it's simplicity - so a big agreement with Uli. :)

On the other hand I'm really begining to enjoy the new Forum and I think we at least ought to give it a chance (say one month) before we vote and decide. It has got a lot of advantages. :D

There that's clarrified that.

What does TV think :?:

Simplicity
« Reply #2 on: March 17, 2002, 09:15:20 PM »
Yeah, but simplicity can also mean limitedness.
I bet, when more and more people begin to visit the forum,
the old forum would have become a problem.
The number of messages is already going up, which is great.
You can experience this problem on other sites, where they use a similar
board like the old one. Good when you have a few messages, but
really a mess, when there is a lot of conversation going on.

Hi Klaus

I start to enjoy the new Forum, in the beginning it`s a bit confusing, but i` am getting used to it.
If you asked ever one, the majority will be for the old one , because the dont like changings..... :-)

I`am for the new forum.  But two Forum in the moment ist much to much and confusing .

Hi Kaenga,

I now disabled posting on the old forum, completely.
But people should be able to read the old messages, so it
is still accessable.

Hi Klaus

thats fine,
as long as you can look back on the old messages, but not write.

I wounder why some of the folk,  are so shy with the new Forum.

Hi Klaus and TJ,

so I'm back again checking this out...
Still not very impressed. Y'know it's okay, but...
It's a lot like many other forums and what I liked about the old one was not only it's simplicity but that it was different to some others I visit from time to time.

For starters I f***ing HATE cookies!!!
Emoticons are quite okay but I'm always trying to bring across my point by words at first...

I guess I will get used to it. Just need some more time (which I don't have right now)!

Btw I didn't vote for a new forum, in fact I was quite shocked when I discovered that so many people voted for a new one.
Now you got the trouble in checking this out...
Wow, I used an emoticon!  8O

Klaus

Ive read all the comments so far and whilst I understand the slight frustrations of others(I too loved the old forum), I think the new forum is EXCELLENT and will grow on us all as we gain confidence in using it.
The biggest problem with the old forum was having to scroll down to read all messages, and this new look gives the site greater flexibity(especially as you can get an email telling you someone has posted a reply to one of your comments thus encouraging you to visit the site) in grouping/sorting all relevant posts together, and I am sure in the long run will attract more users to the site, and encourage existing users to remain on the site longer, thus enabling the gospel according to TV Smith(and Channel 5) TO BE SPREAD WIDER, FURTHER AND LONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!!

You know that man T V Smith thinks he's a DOMINATOR- and with this new forum he might do just that.

Keep up the good work
