I didn't know this: apparently a mature willow takes up to 10 tons of water a day! So add mature tree felling to the re-routing of rivers and streams etc etc when new housing developments are born, and hey presto - lots of lovely flooding!
I was gobsmacked to read in my local paper that one such housing atrocity ('affordable' homes for locals = 5 bedroom 3 storey houses bought by out-of-towners to rent for £2000 pm), has won an award for its great 'use' of landscape (the above 3 story blots on the horizon), the retaining of mature trees (yet no hint of a preservation order could be obtained for an old oak as the cutters "had to" chop it down that day), I haven't actually noticed any trees in the new 'village', and 'benefiting the community'  8O I do so hope they get an award later for "blatant disregard for the environment & green belt while raking in their cash", I'm sure the badgers they trapped and suffocated in their sets instead of moving them to safety will be pleased.

Agreed. One good thing with gardens is that they can at least be a lot better for wild-life than the 'green concrete' of some farms - they now think up to half of all Britain's 60 million birds live in surburbia giving a new 'sound of the surburbs'......

There's always hope

i saw on the news that the puffin bird has had its worst year for breeding due to a link in global warming.the sea in which they depend on for their small fish is not producing enough for them to feed their off spring.also my latest rspb newsletter states that the once common uk bird the starling is now on amber alert.   man made power made made pain deadly reign.

Add one species or another to that sad list of destruction every 5 seconds Abused and Confused and we can see what the rich men in suits are really doing to this world. This world is screwed up big time, we throw away food whilst millions starve to death when our politicians know to give them that excess food would cost us less than nothing.

We need to do more than shout at politicians, sometimes I feel like picking up a gun and teaching them a lesson. If I didn’t have the kids to look after, I don’t know what I would be doing now.

Personally I don't think violence is a solution. You'd get yourself down on George W. Bush's level by trying to teach lessons with a gun...

ive often thought about violence.i do sometimes feel it is the best way to teach these bastards a lesson.they dont listen to our peacefull demos and marches do they? the downfall with violence dixi is it will be met with the same responce.the army are better equiped then us.direct action is better.i dont support the ira or whoever but, can you imagine the effect theyd have if theyd blown up banks etc instead of innocent shoppers? the best thing i can come up with is telling them how you feel when they have the audacity to come round your door looking for your vote.its not much i know but with a 5 month old baby daughter id rather be here than have her visit me in some jail. its enough to make you cry (and it nearly does a lot of times) to see OUR world being destroyed by uncaring greedy bastards.one day the tables will turn, its heading that way its just apathy and laziness get in the way. "its the cant be bothered generation" not all of us ,just the magority.the ones who think so called luxury consumer goods and grey tv reality shows are the way of life............... sad.

I don't often blow my own trumpet but I am dead pleased with myself  Cheesy

Earlier this year I started my own organic vegtable patch from scratch and we are now reaping the rewards. Not a single chemical used only organic manure and orgnic plant food Cool

I had planned to try companion planting but didn't have time to plan it but nature seems to have kept it all in balance, There are loads of ladybirds now living at the end of my garden  Cool

If you have a spare piece of garden try it. it's so rewarding  Cheesy
