A Little Spittle
« on: September 26, 2002, 07:08:53 AM »
Gaye Advert was one of the most striking characters of the 'new wave' ha ha! but in  a recent news of the world article, she claimed that it was horrid to be gobbed on. I don't blame her! I once saw Billy idol drenched by spittle and I'm not sure if he ever recovered! His music certainly didn't! I loved Generation X!! They were so 'rock star'!
Here is my question. Did you ever gob on a punk star? Why did you do it?Do you feel sorry for yourself? If so, post your apology here! I'm waiting !!!

To Go Or Not To Gob

I never gobbed, but as I was always down the front I used to get pretty covered. I never liked it, but it did look effective in a strange way through the stage lights....

Mind you I believe it almost killed Howard Wall of the Lurkers who caught Meningetis through a particularly virulent spit-ball....

Hi Alan
yeh i was never a Gobber iether , i never seen the point , but ive seen a lot of gigs where the band  have been covered .
When Malcolm owen ( Ruts  ) died, i seen Mannah ( Ruts backing vocals)
do a gig with Ruts DC at Dundee ( 1980 ) along with the Damned and the Irritators . All three bands  had a very bad night as far gobbs were conceared , as Mannah was a black guy and actually looked white cos  off
the crowds unwilingness to accept this guy on vocals .
BUT Dave vanian was also coverd , and like you alan i was always at the front , getting hit by the folks who gobbed short of the stage !!

Also ive seen Animal ( anti Knowhere League ) being covered too ...Yughhhh . some way to make a living eh ?

Gaye Advert was right to be disgusted .

GOBBING
« Reply #6 on: September 26, 2002, 05:52:36 PM »
Hi folks

I must confess to gobbing a bit in the early days!!

but I stopped when I got a STARE from siouxsie ..after wetting her lapel!!

mind you when I saw Dire straights supporting Talking heads in 78 I must confess to putting a LARGE one on the 5th fret of Mark Knofflers strat!!

They were sooo talented but so boring..!!

I am sure I encouraged his slide guitar playing
