Yes Fred, just back off holiday - did you try to sneak this in whilst I was away? Perhaps I should have applied for a postal vote!
As Slaughterboy said

Too right.

I like bits of most of the others, but love all of the first one.

As close to being punks as they'd ever be, that first lp made my mind up (as if it really needed it!) that the only way was Punk. After that, they became the Lost Gang In Town, sadly. In my opinion.
Although there were some great singles especially Complete Control (possibly their finest hour/3 minutes?) between "The Clash"  &  Blue Öyster Clash.

I'm going to have to listen to this again now!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M9vQGI7GA8

I did - and even with only one new guitarist (interesting that they ended up with the same three guitars, bass and drums line-up they started with when Keith Levine was in the band) these are much better than the "finished" album.

Also interesting how parts of it also point the way for the very percussive/Latin influenced Latino Rockabilly War that came between the disintegration of the Clash and the (eventual) rise of The Mescaleros - who also liked a bit of Samba rhythm now and again.

Just in case you want to buy (yet) another copy of these for no particularly good reason...

Good feature on the recording of "The Clash" with contributions from Bernie Rhodes, Terry Chimes, Tony James, etc. Starts just after 2.24:
