Have You Ever Got TV's Lyrics Wrong?
« on: May 26, 2002, 12:12:35 PM »
So TVers have you ever got any of TV's lyrics wrong :?:
What did you have :?: and what should it have been :?:

This  came from the posting on the superb Soon as I Found It I lost It:

Quote
Hi TJ,

This song is an absolute masterpiece.
Sometimes it's No 1 in my TV-charts.

The walking wet line really is:

"The warp and weft of the city streets"

Find the official lyrics tomorrow in the archives.

Klaus

Thanks Klaus,

Damn I vitually had that at one point, but changed my mind

The walking wet line really is:
"The warp and weft of the city streets"

I wonder what else I got wrong

Still it's a bloody splendid song... and with these even better lyrics it's just got even more perfect

I must admit it is also sometimes my favourite TV Smith song as well. I certainly voted for it in my TV Top Tracks list

Down the field through broken fence
To the place they warned me against

I was really sad  when we got rid of our really old original metal broken fence and replaced it with green mesh to keep Shady prisoned in the garden.

"Yep it's definately

The warp and weft of the city streets

It's funny how once you know the correct line you never hear the line you originally thought it was again

Hey! that gives me an  for a post

Hi TJ,

I definititely experienced this with a TV Smith song, but I can't remember which song/s that was/were.

I remember a few non-TV Smith songs I got the lyrics wrong.
In some cases I kept the wrong lyrics for years in my mind.
And sometimes I was really disappointed when I found out about the real lyrics.
I am glad, this didn't happen to me with TV Smith songs, so far.

My husband & I have been playing an old mixed tape in the car recently.  Last night, while getting ready for bathtime, my five-year-old son suddenly belts out (to the correct melody): "Looking for Hairy Elmo's Eyes!"  Yes, he tells me, it is a song about Sesame Street's Elmo (the hardest working puppet in show business) who has misplaced his eyes.

I'm sure Dave Thompson has written a similar theme to this somewhere.

Here's today's cracker...

My mate thought that "The Wonders don't care" was "He's a one star player"! God knows how he heard that - or even what it means!

I used to think the first line of On the Roof was

Blank faced was that water

and because of that I could never make out the second line.

...and my little brother thought that "No Time to be 21" started: "Back sod, don't make a mess of it" after hearing me play it a few times. Mind you, he was only 9 at the time!

As if our Timothy would ever be so rude!

Just discovered yesterday while playing the Useless cd that I have been mis-hearing the lyric to Bored Teenagers all these years.
Talk about the frailty of words is rarely meaningful
I thought TV was singing really meaningful.
Sort of changes to perspective a bit.  :)
