New single & new compilation:

Quote
Retro Rockets has been chosen as the download only single.

As an extra bonus both tracks should now be included on the forthcoming Decades Apart compilation as well.

The release dates - through EMI - for the single and album are tentatively 22 February and 1 March respectively although these dates may change.

I'll be having them. Pity there's no actual CD single with just the new tracks on. Seems pointless buying the album when I've got everything on it already.

Yeah, of course. I'll have to look what's on it until I decide...  Undecided
Many of my old Stranglers tapes have gone.

Stranglers website is promising a few things:
Quote
In the pipeline
Later in December we will be bringing you an exclusive rare interview with band enigma Dave Greenfield covering a wide range of topics. Also, on Christmas day at 3pm, band founder Jet will address the Stranglers' nation via ratter about his views on all things Christmas. A real festive treat is in store...

Dave Greenfield interview:

Quote
Many early reviewers drew comparisons with Ray Manzarek yet you’ve always maintained that you hadn’t listened to the Doors before joining the Stranglers. So, who were your main influences?

The only tracks by the Doors I knew were Light My Fire & Riders on the Storm. Before I joined my main influences were probably Jon Lord (Deep Purple) & then Rick Wakeman (Yes).

Critics constantly excluded the Stranglers from the Punk movement because of the presence of your keyboards. Do you feel that your particular instrument set the band apart from your peers?

Yes, certainly. But I considered we were New Wave rather than Punk.

Apparently they're working on new material.

2011 is set to be another busy year for the band. They already have a packed Spring gig itinerary including the "Black and Blue" UK tour and some European dates. They are also hard at work on new material for the follow up to Suite XVI.

New tour for next March:

Full details of UK tour March 2012

Details have now been confirmed for the Spring 2012 UK tour. The 18 date schedule kicks off at Leeds O2 Academy on the 1st of March and finishes up at the Manchester Academy on the 24th.

A pair of Scottish dates see a return to the Alhambra in Dunfermline, which the band last visited in 2010, as well as Glasgow O2 Academy. For the London date, the band return to their early home-from-home, the Roundhouse, which was also scene of the triumphant 30th anniversary Rattus Revisited gig in November 2007.

Gigs are also booked at Lincoln Engine Shed and Leamington Spa Assembly, both of which have played host to the band in recent years. The tour visits the birthplace of The Stranglers, Guildford, for their first non-festival gig in the city since 1999. They will appear at the G-Live venue, which is a new development on the site of the old Civic Hall that played host to them many times over the years.

Special guests on the tour are celtic folk-rockers The Popes and singer/songwriter Mike Marlin also returns for another value-for-money three band bill.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, the 23rd, at 10am and are available through www.gigsandtours.com plus other online ticket agencies. Please remember that you can also purchase tickets for any/all O2 gigs at any O2 venues direct without any booking fees. See you on tour...
