The Stranglers have been confirmed as special guests on the forthcoming Simple Minds arena tour at the end of November which visits four cities across the UK and Ireland. The gigs take place at London O2 Arena on Thurs 26th, Leeds First Direct Arena on Fri 27th and Glasgow SSE Hydro on Sat 28th before crossing the Irish Sea for a show at the Ireland 3 Arena in Dublin on Sun 29th.

I haven't seen Simple Minds since 1980.
The O2 London is about 20 minutes from me.
But it'll depend on how expensive the tickets are.
And if I can be arsed to go.  ;D

Saw them supporting the Stones in 2006... was ok, could've been worse...   8)
But that's enough for now.

Leeds date would be do able for me and is tempting but will the Stranglers get to play a full set? Don't remember what happened when they were 'special guests' with UB40. Dilemma

To me "special guest" makes it sound like they will have 45 minutes or so. Could be wrong though...  :-\

Hmmm... Let me see:

45 minutes of The Stranglers

VS

Up to two hours of the Simple Minds (Let's say 1.45 with time off for good behaviour!)

Let's just work that out...

Possible solutions:

1. Go and see The Stranglers and leave after that (but have to pay full price).

2. Stay at home and listen/watch The Stranglers live on CD/DVD. Put money saved towards seeing a proper Stranglers gig.

3. Go to pub and spend money saved by not giving it to Jim Kerr.

Hope this helps!

Anyone know anything about this rather nice version of "Hanging Around" from back in the day?

There can be no doubt that The Stranglers stole the show, though. They absolutely rocked; they played every hit you could want to hear, they were entertainingly rude about Glastonbury, they engaged with the whole Eden festival spirit, and they left the place buzzing.

I had almost forgotten classic tracks like Nice 'n' Sleazy and their driven cover version of Walk On By and it was a thrill to be reminded of them. You knew that No More Heroes would be the finale, and a properly thrilling one it was too.

And I thought I had died and gone to punky new wave heaven when they played Peaches – a song that I have loved since forever. I was utterly entranced and enthralled.

They were magnificent and clearly still at the top of the game.

Which was just as well as Motörhead, who came on after them, were merely good rather than brilliant and the evening would have been a tad disappointing if The Stranglers hadn't set it up so well.

Fibbers in York Monday twas great! only about 500 people, sweating hot and I reckon Baz probably lost a stone, JJ  cool as always. It would be a great venue for TV!  I went onto Bazs side on a sort of raised bit where there is a bar and although I only saw Dave when he went on and off stage and didn't see Jim at all I don't think I could have handled the barrier last night. Plus excellent view of JJ & Baz!

Good security guy stood in front of me and I complained and he moved! I did thank him at the end. similar set list to March they are having a real laugh it appears much jocularity and messing about between JJ and Baz. Norfolk Coast, Relentless and NMH were stand out for me but there wasn't a duff one really. Epic five minutes and something better change. Golden Brown and Peaches got a well received outing but the mix of the newer stuff was also well received and there was I would say almost 50/50 older younger audience. Sell out gig unsurprisingly.
