Hmmm...might see you there Ken. Haven't seen them for a while and Highbury Corner Overground is just 30 mins from my local station which makes for an easy, if necessarily early finishing, night out.

'The Men..' are supported by...
'Cauldronated (the techno punk band featuring Dave Barbarossa of Adam And The Ants/Bow Wow Wow).
Also 'She Makes War' (solo musical project of multi-instrumentalist Laura Kidd).
And the all-girl grunge band 'Pretty Ugly'.

Had a great evening. Went on my own but just kept on bumping into people I knew, some of whom I hadn't seen in years, others (Tom Phobic, Tina, Gaye and a well lubricated Ken  ;)) I see pretty much all the time.

Excellent gig too  :)

Dropkick Murphys at Nottingham Rock City. Packed out. Good gig but song selection could have been better.

Stranglers/Rezillos at Rock City tomorrow with Kim (grumpyinblack of this parish).

I'm looking forward to The Rezillos more.

Will report back after I've seen (half) The Stranglers - again.

Rezillos very impressive and went down a storm.

Stranglers played too many weak tracks - old and new. I love the enthusiasm Baz brings to the band, but he's not the best guitarist in the world.

Kim will now reply for the opposition!

My name is Kim and Rockula is right you are wrong Fred! in my opinion.  That they have the balls to play such eclectic sets and can keep doing it year on year because the old stuff and the new are worth it is testament to them. Baz has brought energy enthusiasm and humour to new tracks and old favourites. witness Norfolk Coast what a rendition every time this tour :), Relentless is my current top Stranglers track. Time to Die was epic, Baz wants to be in the Stranglers and it shows and the rest of em appear to be having a great time too, thank gawd the bloke after Hugh has gone, and hey we can go and see Hugh too, bonus

My name's not Kim and Fred is right - Baz is not the best guitarist in the world! But: he is good enough for the Stranglers stuff both old and new!  8)

Next up for me probably: 999 (Stuttgart) and Garden Gang (Augsburg).

Kim - I think the cover of Grip you mentioned may have been by Nouvelle Vague. Ken would be the expert.

Do you know of any other covers of "Grip" with female vocals Ken?

The one that they used as an intro at gigs last year was, indeed, the Nouvelle Vague version.
(I think I have at least three other covers of 'Grip' with female vocals but they are by unreleased bands or demos.)
The NV version of 'Grip' can be found on the Limited Edition 2-disc version of their '3' compilation album released in 2009 (Japan only I think).
The 2-CD is hard to find and not cheap but I think the track can be downloaded from those i-Tunes type places that I refuse to use. :)
