R.I.P. Phil May

It is with very deep sadness that the management of the Pretty Things have to announce the death of the band’s lead singer, Phil May.

Phil May passed away at 7.05am on Friday 15 May at the Queen Elizabeth hospital, Kings Lynn, Norfolk. He was 75. He had been locked down in Norfolk with his family and, during the week, Phil had suffered a fall from his bike and had undergone emergency hip surgery, after which complications set in.

I'm very sorry to hear this as they were always a band I wanted to see, but never actually managed to catch them.

'There's always the next tour...', until there isn't folks.

Boy have I got some catching up to do when life gets back to something like, or hopefully better than, what used to pass for normal.

Same here. They played the Club Bastion in Kirchheim (not far from here) in recent years but I couldn't make it.

Marc Zermati - founder of Skydog records.



"Parisian Marc Zermati might not be a household name, but all true devotees of Rock Action know his work. Marc founded Skydog Records in 1972, the imprint which originally released Iggy and the Stooges' epochal "Metallic K.O." and the MC5's almost-equally grand "Thunder Express," as well as important records by the Flamin'Groovies and Johnny Thunders. Marc promoted the first-ever European punk festival in 1976, and subsequently booked tours of Japan for Johnny Thunders. The label nowadays goes by the name of Skydog International or just Skydog.
Born in Algiers June 21 1945 Marc Zermati died June 12 2020 from a heartattack."

R.I.P. Ennio Morricone

Not long ago I re-watched "Once upon a time in the west"; the music drove tears to my eyes and kept playing in my head for days after...

Morricone, who was simply known as "Maestro" in his home town of Rome, scored more than 500 films over seven decades.

Yet he remains best known for the haunting melodies he wrote for the trilogy of 1960s westerns Sergio Leone made with the then little-known Eastwood.

Leone called the composer's contributions "indispensable" and would have him write the score before shooting so he could design his shots around Morricone's contributions.
