Great to see everyone again-I'd been counting the weeks to the festival but the 4 days went so fast.  Highlights for me apart from TVx3 of course-thursday Off WithTheir Heads- best act on the opening day. Buzzcocks sound was terrible. Hi Fi Spitfitres and Fire Exit good too.
Friday-The Boys-still really good even without Kid Reid. Social Distortion- suffered like The Buzzcocks with the sound and didn't play their best songs. Great set by The Zero Boys- most of  ‘Vicious Circle’ plus a great cover of Magazine’s Light Pours Out of me. Chelsea were brilliant, October fully fociussed and Nic Austin seems to have revitalised them. It was a triumph for TV having to follow them minus band and keeping such a big crowd to the end.  Band of the day-Victims of Circumstance. Happened to wander in to the Arena as they were starting, stayed to the end and bought 3 CDs. A bit like The Bosstones- nice to be amazed by a band you've never heard of before.
Saturday-old faves TV, 999 and The Vibrators as good as always and Eddie's son makes a brief appearance playing guitar on Troops of Tomorrow. Lucky that Pure Hell pulled out giving TV chance to play in the ballroom again. Spizz were very good in the Opera House-not keen on the venue and it was nearly empty when Monochrome Set take the stage-they were good too though. Penetration- superb as they always seem to be these days-why no Firing Squad though? PIL were very good too, I'm not a fan but they were worth seeing although loads of people began to leave from 20 minutes onwards.
Sunday-usual lunchtime session in the Pump before going to see Start. We should have stayed in the pub-very dull, so I went to see the fabulous Louise Distras. Then it's a welcome return for Sonic Boom 6, no horns this time though, and a really short set. Missed Thee Spivs but we get in the acoustic room early to get a good place for TV's set which I enjoyed most ouit of the 3. For some reason I then go and watch The Subs-something I usually try to avoid. They were OK but the turnout is unbelievable, the place is heaving. Why? They’re not that good and play in your local pub every other week but the crowds they pull at Rebellion never cease to amaze me. Then it’s off to SLF but there’s a big queue so back to the Ballroom for Rancid who tear the place apart with an amazing performance. I was disappointed by them the 2 times I’d seen them so I wasn’t expecting anything like this. We get most of Out Come The Wolves rather than the crap on the last album. This years festival will take some beating.

Good review of TV and The Vibes here;
http://louderthanwar.com/rebellion-festival-saturday-3rd-august-pt-2/

As for the rest of it-well Spizz certainly did play 'Captain Kirk' and the guy clearly needs to do his homework on The Vibrators!

BRILLIANT gigs by TVSmith ..as usual i arrive too late to the bar for the accoustic set :-( it is PACKED to the rafters yet again
so we do our best to shuffle around at the back ...way at the back . However the weekend was certainly TVSmiths ..he done the fans proud
on all occasions .

other highlights for me were the fantastic RUTS DC -  WOW ! what a set !  i couldve listened to them for another hour at least , the RUTS songs just comming and my poor legs from jumping up and down ....deary me  :-(      Seggs and Ruffy and Leigh all stopped for a chat and that made my night complete .

DirtBox Disco were good live too and are fast becomming a festival favourite , they drew quite a crowd ... also John Robbs spoken word with Viv and Gaye and Jeff turner were fanstatic.... i found Viv Albertines chat very entertaining and informative, she was brilliant.

ESSO from the Lurkers was good too, he is a great bloke with loads to say on many subjects , he was selling his book this year which im told is a superb read..he is also a bloke i wouldnt want to get on the wrong side off , he doesnt seem the type to hang about too long before flattening people who piss him off :-)

so many to see ...some dropped out like Pure HEll ! :-(   NO FUN as i really wanted to see those guys too :-(

i went to the PIL soundcheck early in the morning , all the crew were busy ,and when i asked if john was going to arrive they said NO -we use a a CD these days , RISE was playing at the time ..however when we went outside a greeny coloured people carrier with blacked out windows arrived, it drove past a few times before parking ...then security approached it .. some chatting went on ...then it drove off again ...only to return later ....

Rambo was spotted nearby so we can only assume Lydon was surveying the venue and the door he was going to be led through soon.   Too much fannying around tho to be honest , just do the soundcheck ...make yourself accessible to fans Mr Lydon and no one will want to swamp you at gigs...just act normal eh ..  all that security just adds to the tension.

anyhoo--    good to meet all you folks again ....Fred ,Alan ,Steve da Fish ...   etc ....   we had a good time there , but seeing TVSmith and the RUTS DC made my weekend worth it ...   fantastic !

 Cool

He he, Lydon is a bit of a pop star, eh?  Wink
But I quite like the new PiL album anyway.
