I was driving home tonight and, for some unknown reason, this BBC programme came to mind:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0077srw

It was by far the best episode of the series.

If you haven't seen the programmes before, the basic premise was this: Take three different singer/songwriters, get them together in a room (in this case, Subterania in London) and get them to play together some of the other's songs.

Then I got to thinking: Who would you most like TV to play with and who would you most like to cover one of his songs in such a show?

One name came to me straight away. Now...shoot me down if you think this to be ridiculous but, the name that came to me straight away was:

Bruce Springsteen!

Ok, now...it ain't never gonna happen  :D But who else could complete the circle?

Or which other recording artists do you think could really carry TV's songs??

And, of course, is there another artist out there who you've heard and thought '...y'know, I could imagine TV singing this...'

I am no Springsteen fan, btw - I just think he has a great delivery.

Who would you have, TUTS?

Mmmm, I'll have to think about this, it's difficult not to go for the usual suspects  :-\

My suggestion for the third person would be Michael Stipe, he would also bring passion to TV's songs and TV would bring a gritty edge to REM songs  :)

Not exactly the same but I did hear an interesting cover after Earthbound with 3 very dubious characters  ;)

Take three different singer/songwriters, get them together in a room (in this case, Subterania in London) and get them to play together some of the other's songs.

This concept was also done by Chris Eckman (Walkabouts), Hugo Race & Chris Brokaw. They made records as "Dirtmusic", each of them delivering about 3 songs and the others playing along on them.

I could imagine interesting combinations with TV, e.g. with Mike Peters and Captain Sensible. Or Mike Scott. Or Brian James. Or many more...
Just around the corner and miles away...
