In this radio show from NZ, linked by Rockula, Rat gave some info about The Mutants:
http://www.tvsmith.com/forum/index.php?topic=7069.0

He said that TV is on a track together with Neville Staples (ex Specials).  8)

So what's happening and when with this project then? Release date? Gigs?

Apart from '2014' and 'soon' no date for release has been given.

And the chances of it all being played live with all those involved seems unlikely.

Unless, of course, they do it as a 'one-off' special show. That would be nice.

That would be very nice - if so let's hope we get early warning to grab some tickets!

The old article above talks about a "limited number of gigs", let's wait and see if that will happen.  8)

Album release date is 28th July.

Review in Record Collector gave the album 4 stars and their review says....

''...'Too Much Trouble', with TV Smith up front, begins with Steve Jones-esque guitars before receding into London Calling-ish tuneful dub and pop...''

So the album is supposed to be out on July 28th. How to get it? Website says right now:

Quote
Rat Scabies, Chris, and Paul will be special guests at Guitar Wolf’s gig at the The 100 Club in London on August 1, joining Seiji on stage for a blistering live performance of ‘Dead Beat Generation.’

PS: The Mutants’ RHYTHM AND PUNK REVIEW album out 28th July. More on that soon…

From a review on LTW:
Quote
The always dependable TV Smith contributes two decent songs...
Neville Staples contributes two upbeat ska-punk numbers which must’ve taken at least five minutes to write, but makes up for it with some great vocals on a duet with TV Smith on a brilliant piece of Ruts-y punky-reggae with politics you can dance to.
...this could have been a great album, with the right contributors. Nylon, Terri, TV, Kramer and Wilko are great, it works well and their contributions are is some of the best brand-new old-school punk you’ll hear. Rat Scabies drumming throughout the album is top notch as are the guitars which sound hard and sweet. The other vocalists and lyricists let the side down, though, and are just too cartoonish to be taken seriously.

Well it is the 28th of July today, but I can't find any info on how/where to order the album (yet)... Bit of a delay, I guess.  :-\

Just had a promo CD arrived (thanks eBay!) and it's definately worth a listen regardless of the LTW review.
I'd been looking forward to this for some time - featuring my two fave artists of the last 30 years or so (TV & Wilko).
With the majority of the guests being involved in the songwriting process, it was never going to be that cohesive and yeah, some of the tracks are "dumb fun" but if my memory serves me correctly so was a lot of 70's punk. And if you're gonna slag Charlie Harper off, do so for his "tonight Matthew I going to be Johnny Rotten" vocals on "Freedom In Chains".
Stand out tracks (so far);
Walking Wounded with Wilko's riff (though no writing credit) carrying the song.
Too Much Trouble which wouldn't sound out of place on one of TV's own albums (maybe we'll get to hear a live version?).
Only one disappointment - we could have had TV & Wilko together on one track!
