Visa delays mean that it now seems certain that TV will be unable to appear on the first dates of the US tour with Jay Reatard due to start Friday. Despite TV's visa being approved, current backlogs in the embassy in London mean that final ratification has not yet taken place and without it he will be unable to travel. TV says: "I am extremely disappointed about this as I was very much looking forward to touring with Jay Reatard and getting the chance to play for my fans in the US. The visa application process started in early March to make sure that the everything was ready in time but new security procedures brought in recently have led to huge delays at the embassy. I'm doing everything possible to secure a meeting with them and still hope to be able to join the tour at a later point." Watch this space.
TV will be joined onstage at the upcoming London Bull & Gate gig by Leigh Heggarty, guitarist with much-loved West London band The Price, who often toured with TV's band Cheap in the late '80s. Leigh was even a member of Cheap for one gig when regular guitarist Mik Heslin was unable to play, and more recently stepped in to play a couple of songs with TV at a solo gig in Uxbridge. The pair enjoyed it so much they've decided to play a few more songs together for this unique London concert. Don't forget: the code phrase "I am a TUT!" gets you a one pound discount on the entry price!
Some recent changes and additions to the gig list: Upcoming June dates in Italy - TV will now be playing the entire show with The Valentines, playing songs from "Crossing The Red Sea." Later that month, TV will no longer be playing the previously announced gig at the BRN festival in Dresden, instead he's playing a solo show in Castrop-Rauxel. Gig in Münster announced for 17th September.
TV has been confirmed as special guest to Jay Reatard for a two week tour of the USA starting June 26th. Expect a solo show and some songs with Jay and band. Full dates in the gig listings now!
Three live tracks from the TV Smith and Vom Ritchie show earlier this year in Munich will be broadcast this coming Saturday 18th April on Radio Feierwerk on their Nightliner show, broadcast between 22:00 - 24:00 CET (21:00 - 23:00 in the UK.) Go to www.radio-feierwerk.de and click on "Livestream." You'll need to use Winamp to hear the show, rather than the Windows Mediaplayer. Listeners in the Munich area can of course hear the show on their radios on 92.4
More gigs added to the gig list, including a pre-Earthbound date in Germany, a short tour of Italy with The Boys, a gig in Glasgow supporting The Men They Couldn't Hang, and one more last-minute TVOM gig in Bonn. Watch out soon for news of a USA and Canada tour in June/July with Jay Reatard.
