Strange, I listened to Cheap's "Third Term" today!!!  :o (Also in memory of Alan, btw.)

Many thanks Uli. I heard a German politician saying that the "AfD" deserved to be ignored, especially as many other European countries have greater support for far right parties. Fair point. Hopefully they will be denied "the oxygen of publicity".

They do get enough of that, but not from me.  ;) (There are people who troll them on FB etc., but I don't want to spend my time with that. I think it's better to pretend they don't exist...)
Btw, looking at their program for this election, it is much more "neo-liberal" than "extreme right".  ::)

Jens who?  ??? What do the BBC know about German politics?

Currently Jens Spahn is being "handled" as a state secretary in the future coalition government. Still, I can't see him following up Merkel. He can be a minister or whatever, but I do not believe he has the "format" to be chancellor.

Not yet and with the "Brexit" chances will be getting smaller...  :-\

Apparently they do - Spahn is being named as a minister for the cabinet.  :o

I hope that the BBC is still backing Jens: Spahn's the man!

Not everything he's done was bad (e.g. currently it is the plan to make health insurance payments a lot fairer for self-employed people like me!), but I'm still not a big fan of Spahn...  :-\

I have absolutely no idea if he'd be good or not Uli - I just remembered your outrage at the BBC's ignorance of German Politics!

Obviously the BBC knew more than me about the "up and coming" main players, seeing he's in the cabinet now and has bigger plans...  :o

Jens Spahn's profile has certainly been raised by the pandemic, I keep hearing his name on the news.

So do I.  ::)

Still, right now, with a vaccination campaign full of problems (and other scandals) I don't see him trying to be chancellor and that's a good thing.

Making a 'dark horse' bid for the top job apparently:

That's one scary-looking drawing!

The longer he's in his position, the more suspicious it becomes...

https://www.t-online.de/nachrichten/id_89687398/weitere-eigentumswohnung-wie-jens-spahn-mit-politik-millionen-machte.html

Quote
